Multiple countries have proposed ‘digital service taxes’ which are taxes on the domestic use of American tech platforms like META, Twitter, Amazon etc. EU countries are planning to tax U.S. based tech platforms for the revenues generated by operations within EU countries.
President Trump announces retaliatory action via reciprocity taxes, in essence leveraging the entirety of the U.S. consumer market, if the EU proceed with this new tax revenue scheme against U.S. companies. Canada was on the cusp of a digital services tax last year when Trump made a similar announcement forcing Canada to abandon the plan.

There is some sort of logic to their position. If a company earns income from sales in a country, shouldn’t it pay tax on those earnings from access to that country? It gets more complicated of course if you sell to more countries.
What is the tax situation on companies that are being forced by Pres Trump to set up shop in the USA? Do they pay tax in USA? Does anyone know?
It’s very difficult to discuss this as we don’t have all the facts.
Companies pay tax to the source of their revenue. So, if Company A generates half of its revenue from Virginia and half from Kansas, their income tax is paid to those two states and to the federal government.
The company may be headquartered in NJ, so they pay property tax and capital gains tax (assuming no other assets in any other state), etc to NJ, but no income tax. However, we all know, states and localities wave property tax for a period of time, etc. This is basic, but you get the point.

This digital services tax is not really a tax in the normal sense. It is a levy on pre-tax revenues rather than a tax on profits. In that sense it really is more like a tariff, even though they are supposedly now reducing their tariffs to zero. All they do is play games. You watch – if they drop the digital services tax they will reimpose some or all of their old tariffs. Most of the EU is going broke or already broke and they must get money from the outside somehow since they are not willing to make the changes needed to improve their economies and productivity.
the best outcome would actually be for europe to impose a DST and then for USA to impose a 100 % tax in european imports. lets just skip all the BS and just do that.

US defense contractor Anduril is in talks to buy the Nissan Oppama plant in Japan. They would use the plant to make military drones. If the deal goes through Nissan will offer relocation services to workers at other plants and Anduril will offer training for workers wishing to remain.
