In a series of messages from his Truth Social account, President Trump notes IRGC officials continue to fire weapons into the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to disrupt commercial shipping lanes.
The leadership of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps are in a zero-sum status. Any change to the power structure of the country will likely mean the end to their power, life and status. The IRGC will not accept any terms and consistently portray themselves as martyrs for the regime.
The U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and shipping is creating a serious economic problem for the regime in Tehran, and the IRGC is trying to stop the situation of commercial vessel transit for anyone except Iran. (VIA Politico) – “Iran’s Supreme National Security Council issued a statement calling the blockade a violation of the ceasefire and said Iran would prevent “any conditional and limited reopening” of the strait.”

Wait another week or so and their oil storage will be full. Once that happens they will have to shutdown oil wells for want of storage. When that happens future production after a restart of those same wells will be permanently crippled limiting future extraction and thus revenue.

After Touska’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings over a six-hour period, Spruance directed the vessel to evacuate its engine room. Spruance disabled Touska’s propulsion by firing several rounds from the destroyer’s 5-inch MK 45 Gun into Touska’s engine room. U.S. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit later boarded the non-compliant vessel, which remains in U.S. custody.

To all the TACO folks, Trump clearly doesn’t like to kill innocents. All other presidents who have launched attacks had no issues taking out dual-use infrastructure. Trump is the only one who hasn’t. It’s amazing they’ve decimated Iran at the level they have without destroying these things.
With that said, he’s giving Iran and the IRGC every chance to make a deal. He doesn’t want to do anything that will cause widespread suffering to the average Iranian. I think he’s running out of options and time though and the next step is complete obliteration. Honestly, I think Iran’s plan is to drag this out as long as they can to get to the midterms. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve had back channel conversations with leading Democrats, getting advise from them.
