As Vice President JD Vance and the U.S. negotiating team meet with interim, hopefully ‘governing’, Iranian officials in Pakistan, the U.S. Navy and military have entered the Strait of Hormuz.
First, the announcement from President Donald Trump:

USS Frank E. Peterson (DDG 121) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) transited the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Arabian Gulf as part of a broader mission to ensure the strait is fully clear of sea mines previously laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
“Today, we began the process of establishing a new passage and we will share this safe pathway with the maritime industry soon to encourage the free flow of commerce,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

It was the THREAT of mines that made ships hesitant to sail.
It took a little time to get the right equipment to the Strait to “sweep it” of any existing mines. That, apparently, is now happening.
Presumably the assets are in place to prevent any new mines to be placed, AND to suppress any attempts to fire drones and missiles at ships. Also presumably, there has already been a massive activity to locate and destroy such Iranian capabilities on Iranian soil within range of the Strait.
Folks need to understand that this is NOT a video game 😃. It takes time to identify, prepare, move, and then operate these assets in a coordinated and successful manner.
I trust that Hegseth and his Senior military planners are going to do an excellent job getting and then keeping the Strait open.

This is actually fake news….the actual report is a US Battleship attempted to enter the Strait and was instructed it would be attacked in 30 minutes…..the ship then turned around.
There are no US ships in the Straits and there are most certainly any ‘minesweepers’. This was ‘negotiation propaganda’ by the US.

The US should not continue to take most of the risk to our soldiers and assets and bear almost all of the cost to protect other nations. They should be forced to fairly contribute – one way or the other.
Maybe keeping a presence in the Strait to charge a large toll for the ships of each feckless nation who hugely benefits but refused to answer the call to help.
Trump is willing to take great risks to force world peace. It would be nice to be reimbursed and even nicer to actually profit for doing a job that no one else will do.
