Of course it’s dead wrong about the ceasefire part, but given the desperation within the IRGC for opportunities to defect and the IRGC’s (former) ownership and control of Iranian business interests, national resources and economy, it may have stumbled on to something relevant to the President’s reference to a big, valuable oil & gas related gift. I don’t know.

The actual point is that there is no one who is really in leadership. When Trump advised that he was in negotiations with the IRGC leaders, the members of the IRGC went into a tizzy, and started fighting amongst themselves to see who the ‘leakers’ were, who were negotiating with Trump. The Iranians have mined the Straight of Hormuz with acoustic/magnetic limpet mines moored under the transit corridors (according to open source reporting) as well as having a number of anti-ship missile batteries embedded in the coastal cliffs and shoreline. Both sets of systems are likely linked in to a command and control network that monitors vessel ID transponder signals as well as a safety over-ride that allows vessels to pass these systems without triggering them. This transponder/signal system is the basis for the Iranians using their control of Hormuz to extract payment for passage. My guess is that the source with whom Trump et al is negotiating provided that safety key, this making it very valuable. Just conjecture on my part, I am long retired…
