Democrats have refused to fund the Dept of Homeland Security which means the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials are working at reduced capacity. This is slowing down security times at airports and creating massive delays for U.S. air travelers. The problem has been worsening day-by-day for well over a week.
President Trump announced today that if Democrats don’t fund DHS/TSA, he will move Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers into TSA positions with the benefit of creating an illegal alien catch net.

Many TSA agents continue to show up to work; however, many TSA agents are refusing to come to work without pay. The current airport delays are most significant at urban metropolitan airports.
The airports with the largest percentage of ‘DEI qualified’ TSA agents are the airports with the biggest delays.

We all pay a “9/11 Security Fee” every time we buy an airline ticket. That needs to be legislated away, as it is clearly not being used as originally intended (to fund TSA).

Other than prosecuted criminals, I haven’t heard of one deportation, prosecution or arrest of these scammers, that wasn’t already in the works. TSA should be privatized and a wholesale review of every bloated government agency. Most of them could be privatized or eliminated.
The vast majority (estimated at over 75%) of federal government agencies, departments, programs, etc. are extra-constitutional. If all federal programs that are not specifically enumerated in the Constitution were eliminated the Fed could be closed down, deficit budgets would be a thing of the past, the debt could be paid down, and Americans could keep a lot more of their money in their own pockets where it belongs.
Many agents refuse to come to work without pay is probably many agents are working other jobs and so are not available to come to work, from what I heard on the radio.
Some of them are not in a position to work without pay, especially when they have something else they can do to earn in the meantime.
Any kind of government shutdown ends up being a BONANZA for the furloughed workers.
First of all, the big banks are all super woke so they immediately step in and offer the government employees EXTREMELY low interest loans.
When it happens here in DC there is a VAST network of local services and business that offer discounts and promo rates with government ID. Two and three for one drinks, free dry cleaning, Uber runs discounts. It goes on and on and on.
And then, whenever the shutdown is over, the funding legislation ALWAYS contains a provision that provides the furloughed workers with FULL BACK PAY.
So essentially they get paid to do no work. It amounts to a free vacation. THEY LOVE IT. THEY PROFIT FROM IT.
What you see, all the sad sack news reports of them crying about their poverty is a fake act. NONE OF IT IS SINCERE.
It’s just used to bludgeon Republicans and the right. NO MATTER WHAT, their media amplifies the message that Republicans are to blame. EVEN WHEN we vote unanimously to fund the government, as is happening here with TSA and happened last year during the continuing resolution shutdown.

Theres an article in Wall St Journal today about airports that are open such as Kansas because they contract privately for TSA agents who are therefore not on government payroll. Perhaps more privatization of services such as postal and TSA might be an answer?

Sort of related topic – remember seeing a video where DHS agents turned their blind eyes away from little kids being smuggled through U.S. airports. These were kids who had crossed the border without parents or guardians and were being taken to God-knows-where. Don’t know if this is still happening but yes, I would love t see our ICE agents in charge because I don’t believe they would conveniently look away like the airport personnel did.

Living in Hawaii, flying is what we do. Came through Atlanta last Dec from Chili. Getting through customs was pretty fast for US citizens; the lines for foreigners seemed pretty long. After customs we had to go through TSA but it wasn’t horrible at the time we went through.
Better that than getting taken out by some illegal trucker on the road.

The mistake the TSA agents make is any of them showing up at all. If none showed up it would be resolved immediately.

As of this morning ICE is already in place at JAX airport operating TSA stations. My husband flew out early and said they were manning the TSA checkpoints in full on body armor even. Nothing like surprise support earlier than announced!
