According to the Washington DC spin, the various EU energy ministers changed clean energy justification of ‘climate change’ during the International Energy Agency (IEA) summit because they were concerned the U.S. would pull out of the IEA group. The IEA shifted to green energy as a security priority, no longer concerned with climate change.
However, given the situation with European energy costs and the severe problems they are having within their collective and individual economies, what they consider “national security” appears to be their need to control public outrage at the green energy consequences.
Affordable or ‘cheap’ energy production is directly linked to the underlying economy. If energy production costs more, heating, electricity, fuel, transportation, just about everything costs more. Energy prices drive consumer prices and that has become a serious problem for the U.K and EU who have chased the “Build Back Better” global energy reset.
With President Trump targeting reciprocity in a global trade balance, suddenly the economies of Europe, Canada and parts of Asia are feeling the impact. Industrial manufacturing in Europe continues dropping and various sectors like the automotive manufacturing showcase the contraction. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or economic output within each of the contracting nations is putting hard data behind the problem.
Suddenly, with their economies now quivering, the IEA meeting in Europe drops the climate change objective as justification for their ‘renewable’ energy programs. They blame the USA, but in reality, they appear to be trying to save themselves from feeling the full consequences of their action.

It’s a change that has been slowly building since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to office 13 months ago, and that was turbocharged by Wright’s threats on Tuesday to quit the IEA and fears Washington might stop funding the body. The U.S. provides around 14 percent of the IEA’s funding.
“With diplomacy it’s about looking for those places where you can work together,” said one European energy ministry official present at the closed-door discussions. “If the word ‘climate change’ is a red drape for a bull then don’t use it.”
The emphasis on security — not climate change — was everywhere.
“Renewable energy is not about tackling climate change, it’s about economic growth and affordable and low energy prices,” Austrian State Secretary of Energy Elizabeth Zehetner told POLITICO on the sidelines of the event. Zehetner stressed however that Europeans wouldn’t be “blackmailed” by the U.S.
Her comments reflect that independently of the U.S., Europe has itself moved away from the climate fervor that dominated Brussels policymaking in the first part of this decade. Still, despite some backsliding on green rules, the EU remains fundamentally in favor of strong policies to tackle climate change. (read more)

Due to Jones act and cost of using US ships, gasoline feed stocks for use in CA are being loaded at US gulf ports shipped to Freeport Bahamas then reloaded and shipped to CA.
I think it was 40% with India and South Korea making up most of the rest.
It’s screwing up Nevada gas prices too. We can’t build a pipeline for Utah gasoline fast enough.
Washington State has had gasoline prices increase over the past 3 months while elsewhere in the country they are still declining. We now sit around $3.75/gal for regular gas. Still better than California, but as the refineries close, it doesn’t take much thought to figure out what happens to the Left Coast. A blue state of affairs!

In FL on I-95 from Broward county south there are express lanes that vary in price during the day, during light traffic times they are even free.
North of Broward in Palm Beach county there have been HOV lanes 2 or more, no trucks allowed, these have always been a money generator in mornings and to an extent evening due to being caught driving alone.
Last year there was great fanfare about the elimination of these HOV lanes so that all could use them to help with the traffic still no trucks.

Years ago, I did the math. The most efficient solar collectors are: a crop of hybrid field corn, a crop of alfalfa, and a crop of soybeans. To power one Chevrolet pickup for 10,000 miles for one year, it would take the biodiesel derived from 10 acres of soybeans. In other words, to replace the transportation fuel needs with green energy, in an average state every square inch of that state would have to be covered with solar collectors. So, a society running on green energy is a fairytale.

How curious this thread would pop up this moment, as in our weekly phone conversation with my 80 year old sister in law in Wales she told us that she was terrified of her next electricity bill dropping.
Her 83 year old carriage driving partner sleeps in a small caravan behind the two story stone house because she has a bad knee and can’t manage the steep stairs. Right before Christmas she finally had a knee replacement which meant she was pretty much confined to that small caravan which is heated by electricity.
Last month’s bill for keeping the caravan livable…not comfortably warm… in what has been a brutally cold couple of months was £694. Entirely thanks to the insanity of Gaia worshipping arrogant virtue signalling imbeciles in the UK.

Europe’s deindustrialization and collapse aside, I thought friends here would be interested in knowing the hideous costs of this ignorant and malign insanity to Joan and Joe Q Public across the pond whose pockets are nowhere as deep as those of their rulers who lost their minds and their humanity long ago.
In our local rural Virginia area modular homes are commonplace and they’re equipped with heat pumps. Fine and good but heat pumps using the difference in outside air to heat a home become very inefficient below approximately 40 degrees F outside air temperature.
What these homeowners mostly don’t know is that those heat pumps have an emergency mode which uses an electric heater at lower outside temperatures. The operating cost of these combination heat pump/air conditioning units plus electric hot water heaters consistently runs electric bills $600.00 and higher in the winter from what I have been told.
There are better methods!
Both Labour and the Tories tried to legislate heat pumps for all of Blighty, monti. I’ve lost track of how that’s going.
Those who ripped out perfectly good gas boilers to install them have discovered how inefficient they are with some even paying to reinstall their originals.
They tried to ban wood burning stoves…and have succeeded I believe in certain parts.

The better options are the new highly efficient, gasification (syngas) type wood furnaces and NG/Propane furnaces. The wood furnaces burn what goes up the chimney and is lost (and creates creosote) from an old style wood stove, fireplace insert or fireplace.
Old style wood stove in the basement and a heat pump/ac at our house but the thermostat is set so when the outside air is below 40 degrees the furnace comes on instead of the heat pump.
We have an efficient propane furnace that uses only a PVC (plastic) pipe as its flue. It emits only warm air and humidity to the outside through the pvc pipe when running. So its mostly wood heat except when the master of the house is lazy or we’re away from home.
At least one high efficiency wood furnace shares eliminating the need for a masonry flue.
Biden admin had these highly efficient gas and wood furnaces in their sights for elimination along with wood stoves of all types.
I understand that in parts of Europe they use an inside or outside high efficiency wood boiler that stores heat in a water supply inside the home. These systems have a fairly high initial expense. Europe has its share of large masonry heaters that oftentimes incorporate a wood fired oven/range and sometimes even a bread oven.
Some of the masonry heaters are works of art.

My sis in law has a wonderful Aga in the kitchen which runs on smokeless coal and the odd piece of wood. Her radiators run off it, but she still has to have a fire in her drawing room on colder days. I neglected to say her house is 15th century build with thick walls.
I’ve seen those masonry heaters, dear friend, and you are correct. Works of art they really are. Gone are the days when for many things functionally incorporated beauty.
I have one of those units that is also AC for my office above my detached garage.

However , if you have even standard insulation it hardly runs.
I keep it at 66 ( as my work computer puts off enough heat to add a degree or two) in there and it only has to flick on like twice a day for a few minutes.
There is negligible difference in my bill which covers both that and the whole house whether I use it a lot or not. I dunno; it’s a small space though- the top of a two car standard garage.
I imagine the AC bill in the summer far outweighs the heating bill in the winter?

They are not talking about any change in energy policy, just “rebranding” it to sound like something else. They think President Trump and his people are stupid and will be happy to go along with this change in optics. There are no “security benefits” of renewables, since calling them something different will not change how absurdly expensive and unreliable wind and solar are. To think they can make wind and solar affordable is simply delusional. Then again, delusion is one of the few things the European elites are good at producing. What Trump should remind them is that we have lots of natural gas to sell them. That would go a long way toward solving their energy and affordability problems. Drill, baby, drill!
