Europe is not happy with President Trump’s demand that drug manufacturers provide U.S. consumers with equitable pricing.
If President Trump will no longer permit Americans to pay the research production costs for pharmaceutical companies through high prices, essentially subsiding pharmaceutical costs for the world, then Rx companies will have to increase their prices throughout Europe. This is making the Europeans very unhappy.
(Bloomberg Businessweek) — For the past few years, Swiss oncologist Christoph Renner has treated blood cancer patients with Lunsumio, a new drug that helps the immune system recognize and destroy malignant cells. Then, last summer, Renner got an email from Roche Holding AG, Lunsumio’s manufacturer, informing him the treatment would no longer be available in Switzerland because health insurers there wouldn’t pay for the infusions. “You see what’s possible,” says Renner, a professor at the University of Basel, “and then you’re told you can’t use it.”
The move was a response to rules President Donald Trump introduced that force drugmakers to reduce their prices in the US to the lowest level paid in other developed countries. In Switzerland, new medications typically cost far less than in the US, so in theory Americans should benefit from the change. The problem is, instead of bringing prices down in the US, pharmaceutical companies are raising them elsewhere.
Yet Switzerland has shown little political willingness to pay more—threatening both the availability of medications in the country and its role as a global leader in developing therapies. Drug prices are the primary driver of the increasing cost of mandatory health coverage, and the topic generates heated debate during the annual reappraisal of insurance rates. “The Swiss cannot and must not pay for price reductions in the USA with their health insurance premiums,” says Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, Switzerland’s home affairs minister.
[…] Drug companies say they need to charge high prices on new medications because so much of their work doesn’t pay off. They spend billions of euros on research, but relatively few formulas turn out to be effective. Even fewer provide the massive profits needed to fund further research—and pay off shareholders. Moreover, companies typically need to make that money early on, because after about two decades on the market, drugs lose patent protection, which drives prices down as generics producers start selling copycats.
Manufacturers argue that American patients bear most of these innovation costs and that it’s only fair for other countries to pay more—especially Switzerland, given its prosperity. A more equitable approach, they say, would be to set prices globally and adjust them country by country based on gross domestic product and purchasing power. (read more)
First President Trump starts making Europe pay for their own defenses and NATO commitments; then he has the audacity to tell them the U.S. will not accept European censorship or free speech rules. President Trump follows by hitting them with the end to the Marshal plan of one-way tariffs, seriously weakening the amount of revenue within the EU, forcing budget cuts. Then, as if Trump wasn’t bad enough, he makes it even worse by dispatching expensive Green New Deal energy agreements such as the Paris treaty, and using cheap abundant energy in the U.S. while Europe tries to operate on expensive windmills and solar panels covered in snow.
Now, in addition to forcing them to spend money on their military, now Trump expects the EU to just accept the end to their healthcare subsidies and higher prescription medications. The absolute nerve of this man.

Give it to them, good and hard.
Pity I can only click this a single time when I would wear a hole in my phone screen clicking this…
It’s is beyond frustrating to see how badly the American tax payer has been ROBBED of our wealth for basically my entire lifetime or longer.
I can’t even imagine what America would look like if we had NEVER allowed this fleecing and only had truly good representatives leadership all these years. It makes me sick to my stomach.
Nobody will ever convince me that we can’t have sales tax only collections to meet our tax revenue goals as a country. Whenever I’ve looked into this it says that we could never collect enough to make up the deficit from the revenue they currently collect. BULLSH-T. 90% of the taxes taken are absolute WASTE.
Man I’m angry like no other

If the House of Representatives only appropriated funds past, present and future, for what it is Constitutionally empowered to spend money on, almost ALL taxes could be eliminated!
States could do sales taxes to pay for their services. The federal gov can pay for everything required from tariffs.
All the borrowing and slushy spending has been for the grift all this time.
Maybe I should have put this comment as a reply to your rather than by itself…..oh hell, both places.
It’s a takeoff on a song from about 20 or 25 years ago.
Give it to me Trump-eee
Uh-huh, uh-huh
Give it to me Trump-eee
Uh-huh, uh-huh
Give it to me Trump-eee
Uh-huh, uh-huh
And all the Davos say, “His pretty sly for a MAGA guy “
Raw-dogging it! Good and hard!
Europe has been nibbling at the hand (USA) since 1917 and they have bitten off more than they can handle. We Americans are tired of dying and sharing our hard earned wealth you. Get off your lazy, selfish butts and take care of yourself. This goes for Canada too.
Boo fricken hoo.
Yeah, the parasite complains to the host.
The funny thing is many of these parasite countries do not realize they are parasites. I know some people in Canada, one who was a US citizen and moved to Canada because he thought Canada was better somehow. I don’t envy those who are about to find out.
Parasite complains to the host! 😄
Parasite complain to the host because ’tis the parasite it is
Pray that common sense prevails in the 2026 Midterms.
It won’t because most people don’t understand or know the facts and how these actions are helping them. Thats on the republicans and how they are sitting on their hands about these elections in Nov. 30 republicans House members are not returning. What is being done to find red replacements? Where are the counter attacks on the lies being pushed by the democrats and their biased media?
Just like the American Olympic skiers who just trashed America over their misconceptions of ICE the majority of people don’t have a clue about what is really going on with the Trump administration. This needs to change quickly but I’m not seeing much happening to do that.
These RINOS need to be GITMOed … military is the only way …
Until the MSM starts broadcasting the good Trump is doing, nothing will change. I’m not holding my breath.
Well, nobody is keeping the Administration from talking about it – where are they?
And that is so unfortunate because these are issues everyone agrees on except for the ruling class.
Commonsense will prevail. I ignore the Psy Op you promote. The Demonrats have nothing to offer other than absurdity and misery.
Seriously, unless you’re an illegal alien or suck on the government teat, what Demonrat policy would anyone vote for?
Trump has the election cheaters terrified. They were already scared in the run-up to the 2024 election.
The cheating would have to be too subtle to make a difference if they dare. I’m thinking the electronic voting machines are going to get fully exposed and any polling place that uses them after it is exposed will be assumed to be cheating.
They did cheat in the 2024 elections… Hitting the down ballot races.
They cheated less. When I saw Steven Crowder live-streaming a Pennsylvania counting location with state police escorting large box trucks into a counting location and the news of this hitting X and everywhere, I just about lost it.
But then within the hour, maybe it was within 30-45 minutes, Pennsylvania called their election for Trump.
That couldn’t be a coincidence. They had big box trucks full of something and I doubt it was pizza. And they couldn’t have counted whatever was in those trucks in that amount of time either. They aborted whatever that intended to do.
From your lips to God’s ears.
And Truth/Honesty
The effrontery of these savages! I fart in your general direction
Yes!
Now go away or I will taunt you a second time!
And then comes the cow.
How is it that Shrillary got into this?
“I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!”
English humor when it still had real value!
Go and boil your bottoms, son of a silly person. I blow my nose on you, so-called Arthur-king, you and your silly English knnnnnnnniggits! Thpppppt! Thppt! Thpppppt! *bangs on helmet*
old timey humor. so funny.
I go out of my way to cropdust them. They even get the SBD’s in elevators as I exit and the closing door locks in my parting gift to steep in.
Hope your happy, I’ve got tears rolling down my cheeks.
SBD’s in a car with broken windows AKA , the WDiF–Who Done it F*rt.
My cape fluttered as I passed a secret wind and was gone
Lol! I’d go out of my way to cropdust people wearing masks in 2020-2022, still will when I see them. If they ever complained I’d tell them a ‘virus’ is smaller and easier to pass through their mask than my gas. As I laughed.
Europe mad things are becoming more fair?
F**k them.
Five times in the a*s
Whatever blows your skirt up.
Yes. And their global marxist ideas…you know…inwardly they feel that we “owe” them…that idea of ‘each to his ability’…./sarc
😂 😂 It’s almost like President Trump is promoting America First! 🥰🥰🥰
Absolutely! YES! Now if we can only get CONgress on board with America First, we’d REALLY have something!
Better! AmericanS First!
Ha ha ha. Paraphrased: “They dropped the prices for the Americans but now they are increasing prices on us!!!”
This is what happens when the hosts rid themselves of the parasites.
The drug manufacturer needs to make $40 to manufacture a drug, so they charged the US $30 and the EU $10. Now they will charge $20 and $20, and the EU is mad?
Excuse me if I’m not sad that the US gets to stop issuing debt to pay for subsidizing the EU’s socialism.
Hmmm, or will it be US $30 and EU É30? The drug companies only have to match the costs to both parties?
then they lose in the market . If the market would have alowed them to doubled prices trust me they would have.
The bigger secret is that the drug companies do NOT need to pay that much to produce those drugs. They are obviously bloated and wasting resources because of all the graft from the system that helps inflate the costs.
Add to that, the fact they don’t create cures, they create bandaids that keep us sick.
This article really brings a lot to light.
Yes. If their ‘effective’ formulations are so few, why are so many of their “scientists” living so high-on-the-hog?
You are right. Though i do feel that the drug companies should be compensated for the R&D that went into the discovery, and the testing, and the 3 phases of drug trials, and the government mandated labeling, building the plant processes that scale, then the actual cost of manufacturing packaging and distribution. The final “pill” may cost Pennies/pill, and maybe we can agree on a rate of return on top (cost+10%).
What we don’t like is cost+1000% to pay back capital investor dividends. Or making the US pay 90% so EU drug companies like Bayer can pay for German bureaucracy.
By making the US pay so much of the total, our citizens can’t afford it. So we carry insurance, to socialize the costs. This makes the US dependent on insurance, and add in illegal immigrants using health systems without paying so THOSE costs are also added to the US citizen, and it’s no wonder that our health care system appears dysfunctional compare to the EU. Because we are paying far more than our share.
You are more than welcome to go live there ,if you do not already, “our health care system appears dysfunctional compare to the EU.”
“should be compensated for the R&D”
Should they be compensated for frivolous R&D? Baldness, ED, Restless Leg Syndrome, etc.?
I don’t think so, blanketing all R&D is a blank check, incentivizing research into every petty ailment.
Look under the hood and you will find like all regulated industries the regulated are drafting the regulations. They are designed to crush competition and startups. The industry controls all the experts so where do you go to get info, back to the regulated.
Humira has been out for 20 years now, and yet it still costs $1200 per month. For a shot that burns like fire, I might add.
That’s copay if you have insurance.
They got their R&D back long ago. They’ll be alright.
Have you ever stopped and thought, “What makes up R&D for these companies?”
Whatever fixed assets they need to test stuff are already in place for the most part. The employees that make up the R&D unit are there every day of the year all the time. It’s a set amount of team members and doesn’t fluctuate wildly.
My questions are, how many of these employees are there? And wtf are you paying them that their cost can smack entire continents with massive costs, when conversely your customer base is the entire civilized world?
As Sundance says, “Start asking the right fuc-ing questions”.
Would love to see if anyone has a pithy answer for me that I’m forgetting. And if any of those pithy comments are about legal licenses or permits; then we’ve found our problem.
A fair portion of that R&D is paid for with federal money…
“Ta, Ta, Zeropeans”,… your long-time Sugar Daddy since the Marshall Plan has left town and you’re on your own to finance your failing Socialism now. Iron Lady Thatcher was right about OP$.
Talk about Ingratitude!!!
Hey EU. Too freaking bad b$tches!
Gonna be rough … .
The EU, gets to walk in our shoes and truly feel the pain we have felt for years.
Sucks to be them!
Attention EU, we are beyond tired of subsidizing your butts AND you continue to lecture us about your superiority.
Like it or lump it.
The Chinese and Russians will be less tolerant of your BS.
Their smug attitudes on every level are insufferable. They deserve to pay their own way and to reap the consequences of their bad decisions.
And don’t forget, Presidents and Congress let them get away with all of this ever since the end of World War II.
“And don’t forget, Presidents and Congress let them get away with all of this ever since the end of World War II.”
I’ve got to believe there was some kind of payola for that.
Every time anyone comes up with a Plan to use US taxpayer $$$$$$$$$ to “help out” other people/nations, its main purpose is to commit fraud and steal a large portion of it for the people who dole out OUR money.
Already noted by Chinese snubbing both Starmer and Carney.
They are?
But but but … how can I spend my summer touring the Riviera and Alps with my 3 kids, wife and nannnies when the locals don’t like Americans anymore!? /s
You could leave the wife and kids behind and hire foreign nannies
This is good.
I feel like Uncle Sam finally realized he didn’t have to keep grabbing his ankles and assume the position.
Uncle Sam? Daddy TRUMP you mean?
Amen! And Daddy Trump specializes in tough love!
????????
“They spend billions of euros on research, but relatively few formulas turn out to be effective. Even fewer provide the massive profits needed to fund further research—and pay off shareholders.“
Lying liars that lie with every word that they utter.
R&D is a huge tax deduction & every corporation that does R& D tracks the cost & deducts it.
That argument is true but not pertinent. After a drug is approved its revenue has to subsidize the cost of all the failures. But that has nothing to do with a differential price between the US and EU.
It’s a fact they make tens of billions of dollars in profit every year.
They’re not hurting in the least.
The drug prices they set are excessively high all of the excuses they use for doing so are exactly that, excuses.
In fact, their limitless greed is showing through, rather than lowering prices in the US, They’re going to raise them everywhere else so they can keep gouge the customer even more.
Europeans claim it does not cost that much to make the drug, without the R&D costs.
“The Swiss cannot and must not pay
for price reductions in the USAtheir fair share with their health insurance premiums,” says Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, Switzerland’s home affairs minister.Sucks to be you…
Hard working Americans have been used for decades to prop up the world, particularly the Europeans. That’s ending with President Trump.
Well, Canada too. And look at the thanks we get.
That is usually how it goes with spoiled children.
Clearly, the EU is not pleased.
But what about Russia? Does no one care about Russia?
Russia has only about 10% of the GDP of the EU.
How will they pay? Or don’t they not use modern medicines other than for their political royalty?
When I lived in Wales, every prescription I filled was £4.00. This was from 1987-2006.
Just as were leaving, they became free.
And I always wondered how they could do this…
I wonder no longer.
Because until PDJT, Congress and past presidents put America last. Especially so since the time when Mossad and CIA assassinated JFK.
The United States has been the free flowing teat the rest of the world has been sucking all right.
All I can say is that the citizens in the UK are soon going to have one massive shock at their Chemists (aka US pharmacy) upcoming.
Betsy, currently all prescription items in Scotland(2011), N.Ireland(2010), and Wales(2007), are supplied free of charge. In England patients between 16-65 years of age are charged £9.90 for each separate item on their prescriptions, with limited exemptions.
Some doctors, aware that the required medications are cheaper over-the-counter, advise their patients what to buy instead of prescribing. I think you are right that a cold water shower is overdue over here, but some have benefitted more than others, and that is about due to be corrected… and a good thing, too!
Thank you, dear Reader, for that update. I do not see how this monumental change here cannot affect the financials of the British government and the NHS. How long it will be able to keep the status quo is unknowable.
In the meantime, we keep our prayers for you and our family and friends across the pond uplifted. It seems, with God’s merciful help, the political landscape might be about to experience a much needed earthquake. May it be so 🙏🏻
Thank you for bringing up another layer of waste that the US needs to address: prescription pads. Why are prescriptions so necessary here in the US while the same exact medications are purchased over-the-counter elsewhere?
Could it be that extricating doctors and pharmacies from the process of.. say.. ‘managing’ our healthcare needs.. might allow patients the freedom to buy what we want whenever we may need it? Ivermectin. Check. Z pack. Check. Epipen. Check.
I remember when US doctors withheld basic antibiotic treatments and pharmacies stopped filling HCQ and IVM prescriptions. Those injustices could quickly be rectified if we eliminated the middlemen who made our lives a LIVING HELL during the plandemic.
Just sayin.
During the pandemic in California Sam’s Club pharmacy sold me some hydroxychloroquine. But when I went back for a refill, they stopped selling it. I asked the pharmacist why her answer was it’s company policy. I really don’t know what the real reason was that Sam’s would not refill my prescription.
I had a similar problem at Walgreen’s with Ivermectin. They not only refused my refill, they confiscated the prescription form so that I could not refill it anywhere else!!
When I went back to my doctor he hemmed and hawed. He was afraid.. of something.
That’s why it should all be sold over the counter. Who needs people who withhold critical medical care when it’s most needed?
That’s when I began buying my meds from India. And using concierge doctors who don’t rely on big brother to dictate how they should treat their patients.
“Why are prescriptions so necessary here in the US while the same exact medications are purchased over-the-counter elsewhere?”
Insurance will (only) pay for prescription drugs.
Democrats point to the EU to say how wonderful their socialized medicine is and it turns out it was wonderful because Americans were subsidizing all their pharma drugs to the point where they were nearly getting it for free.
Really infuriating our pols are so easily legally bribed. With the exception of President Trump and a very minority few in Congress, our pols are America last.
Yes, some of us in the U.K. know exactly that feeling too, Mrs Sunshine!
Here, the option to the NHS cult is ‘going private’, which costs on top of obligatory healthcare taxes, and earns you disdainful treatment socially!
Our pols are definitely U.K. last!
Or America Never, sis.
Some even say that an early version of the Mossad (the Presad) also assassinator Abraham Lincoln.
Possibly because the more expensive drugs were not on the national medicine list so the doctors could not prescribe them.
I think there is some truth in this.
Our VSGDJT just keeps rolling over these parisites and they can only whimp and whine. Is it just me that notices, he looks like he is having fun and feeds off their pain…Let the good times roll.
I think our VSGPDJT enjoys the game—and winning. Although now he has long learned about the seriousness of the, “game.”
Our wonderful President certainly feeds off the sincere gratitude of our deeply troubled nation. Indeed, all free nations are indebted to this man.
Many of us had already surmised we were in serious decline, but it took one bold and courageous leader to start the ball rolling back to peace and prosperity and yes, American independence and exceptionalism.
Now, we have all had the supreme satisfaction of witnessing all those deep state plotters toppling around us like turds being flushed down the sewer. It is simply grand! And long overdue!
One of my multi-point proposals for health care reform has been to allow reimportation of prescription drugs from foreign countries. The immediate effect would be to collapse the huge gradient between US and foreign drug prices. No drug company would be willing to sell drugs to Canada, Europe, or other countries at production cost plus 10% while charging the US all the development cost plus as much profit as they can get. This scam needs to end.
The European price will go up a lot while our price will go down a little as a new equilibrium is reached.
No pity for the Euro-parasites. Trump’s drug plan must be working last week I filled my first script for 2026 and my out of pocket cost was 1/2 what it was in 2025 for the same script. Now that could be due to the drug plan, but it appears to be more Trump’s plan on making drug prices affordable for Americans.
My cost for Eliquist went from over $1200 for 3 month supply to $229 for a 3 month supply.
Time to pay their fair share. Nice gig while they had it but the man who knows the score just ended that gig so Americans get a better deal going forward. Too bad. Pay your fair share or get nothing.
Same goes for NATO dues!
That’s what happen when you continue to depend on another country to keep you. Even a baby learns you got to learn to walk on your own.
Trying to knock some sense into their extremely liberal heads, but they are stuck in mandating the dystopia of George Orwell’s 1984.
I worked in a university’s School of Pharmacy back in the 1970s. The pharmeceutical companies were already doing this kind of pricing back then, and probably had been for some time. It was explained quite frankly that other countries’ socialized medical systems got this break, but the Americans paid the cost of research and development.
Want to lower drug prices further?
Remember, it was said here one day and it stuck in my head. “Think of your food as medicine or else medicine will become your food.”
Add to that, “commercially processed foods are mostly poison… in my opinion.”
Clarity! Thanks.
Totally agree. Eat the food God made – not the processed “food” sold at the grocery store.
I am sorry to hear about their misfortune. Maybe they can scam China for some meds. Or even better than that, purchase them from Putin, just like they purchase their gas.
And let’s not forget pulling out of the WHO.
Excellent reminder!
What a despicable and fascist organization.

Typical, Hitlerite behavior of Nazi Trump, according to the low-info blowhards in the U.S. <laughs>
The Left – so enamored of windmills that they’re constructing them out of straw now, to tilt against. 🙂

Cargo cult.
Oh, boy. Isn’t that that the truth.
I thought Europe had become part of the Middle East?
They should ask Middle East countries for financial help. Europe is taking in all their islamic armies.
Good one! And with what the Spanish gov just did making 500,000 muslims citizens, they deserve the Karma coming their way…oh well.
The Spanish government must be giving reparations to islamists by returning Spain back to Muslims because of the Christian Crusades or something. 😂
The invasion of Spain was the result both of a Muslim readiness to invade and of a call for assistance by one of the Visigothic factions, the “Witizans.” Having become dispossessed after the death of King Witiza in 710, they appealed to Mūsa for support against the usurper Roderick.

Spain was invaded by invitation.
2x. We have enough muslims on US welfare we can’t be paying for europe’s muslims too.
While I have sympathy for cancer patients that have not responded to the first line of treatment and then moved to much more expensive experiment treaments I believe there is too much over promising – doctors who believe they can play God instead of accepting and seeking to help their patients have a better quality of life but for a much shorter period. I write as someone who has had three close family member die of cancers. Someone has to pay if the treatments are offered and the patients cannot afford them but is it fair to expect the average person who struggles to make ends meet to help bear the cost? Perhaps there is far too much waste, fraud and abuse in the health sectors both in the US and Europe/UK and more funding less important than using the available funds more wisely?
Should we prepare for a wave of European immigration?
And the Clueless Aristocrats make another appearance.

Blimey! Sacre Bleu! Ach du lieber!

Mama Mia! Oha! Vaya!
Why is all the anger directed at Trump and none at the insurance company? They could choose to cover it… They won’t, because they’re as corrupt and dirty as the pharmaceutical companies and their customers be damned, but it’s their choice to not make it available, not Trump’s.
It’s ok…
I don’t like paying more for mine….

Being a US taxpayer is like a parent whose kid and his friends have stole their credit card and charged it to the max.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Hope and change, the Trump way.
I don’t think I understood just how much of the rest of the planet we subsidized on a personal and national basis. I don’t think the vast majority of Americans, right or left, really understand.
Good Old Uncle Sugar.
This has definitely been an eye opener for me. And this is only the beginning.
Big agricultural is involved too. Sundance did research on it and we pay higher prices for a lot of food products that the rest of the world gets for next to nothing. We are suckers and our politicians are criminals. Trump scares them because he exposes it.
this has been a pet-peeve of mine for a long time. We in the US have long subsidized drug and med device costs for Europe. We pay exorbitant costs here so big pharma makes a profit and Europe (and Canada) get to have their socialized medicine. Thank you Mr. President! Way past time for these other countries to pay what we pay for the same stuff.
The Importance of America standing firm in Righteousness is beginning to show throughout the World. We are living in a time of King David, not a perfect man, yet perfect for our time.
I wonder if Americans are fully aware of the hundreds of billions of dollars that could’ve been spent here at home but instead has been subsidizing a high on the hog European lifestyle for decades while we suffer hardships.
Now it’s only a benefit to us if we use this money at home to lower taxes or other things that benefit our Country.
What is going to happen to all the tariff money?
Socialists running out of our money.
but but he said the Obama’s are monkeys!!
(Mustuv forgot about the gay part) 💅🤛🏾
Simply this re all things European including prescription drugs: there’s the EU Globalist way and the MAGA Trump way. Let your EU masters tell you how to live and control all aspects of living ( healthcare, taxes, internet, defense, personal freedoms) or don’t. Its not our problem, stop whining, we don’t care because we have Trump and he’s no longer accepting your utter nonsense. We no loger sacrifice our rights for you and your Global economy.
THIS is what I voted for!
Medicare drug prices in 2026 have been reduced dramatically, especially on generics: a 90 day supply down from $20 to $3! Thank you, President Trump.
you must do a lot of drugs

Absolutely!! Hey Europe. Suck it!!!!😆😆

C Suites don’t come cheap. Nor do their benefits.
Hey! It takes a boat load of cash to influence all those senators, the American Heart Association, and the American Diabetes Association!!
At one time I worked in a regional office of a pharmaceutical company and found out that the government funds some R&D costs.
This was back in early 90s when pharm companies were furnishing big lunches to doctor offices and give aways out the wazoo. Our conference room had special shelves built to hold all the giveaways, including a large jar filled with M&Ms. The only one I really remember.
