In discussions, President Trump has mentioned the “golden dome” a few times, so maybe the territory needed has to do with that. He also said resources in Greenland are under 25 ft of ice and we also have resources, so resources are not what he’s interested in.

Seems to me this is Trump finding a way to save face. The head of NATO has no power , zero , none. To negotiate on behalf of Denmark or Greenland. The US already had a treaty to have troops and bases in Greenland. And so far Trumps announcement has not been confirmed by NATO head.

What a “framework” actually means is no doubt totally flexible at this point. The real question for me is exactly what defense infrastructure could be installed under a framework that couldn’t be done already. Seeems straightforward to upgrade Mission Delta 4 and Mission Delta 5 if that’s needed. Unless you are all-in on global warning I don’t see the logistics problem solvable for a large maritime or even air presence.

Both Greenland and Demark have been very open to the USA having bases in Greenland (We already have a Space Force base and had more than a dozen bases there during the Cold War – until we removed them), so I still don’t get why we have to take ownership title to the whole shebang of Greenland, which is almost as large as Alaska and Texas put together..
Now the Greenlanders and the Danes might object to having more than 100,000-200,000 troops there, but I can’t see even President Troop wanting nearly that many there.
That many wouldn’t be good for military requirement anyway. “Join the US Military and freeze your you-know-what off! And in one of the most desolate places on planet Earth”.”.
I just can’t see boogeymen Russia or China invading Greenland anyway. Their eyes are looking elsewhere.
