Previously, overnight Saturday/Sunday police arrested a man named Benjamin Erickson (24) as the suspect {link} in the Brown University attack that left two people killed and nine injured. At the time of the detainment Providence’s police chief, Col. Oscar Perez, told media, “Police are confident the man in custody is the suspected gunman.” {link] He added he wanted to ensure that all legal requirements are met before charges are brought.
According to media reports, “the man had a unique characteristic on his firearm, the officials said, and that firearm was found when he was taken into custody.” {link}
“We’re going to work with the attorney general’s office to make sure that we have the right legal requirements for the charges,” Perez said. “And this is, it’s just complex. There’s a lot of evidence, there’s a lot of witnesses, and so we have to make sure that we have it all tight. And to make sure we have a good case.” Perez said police cannot hold the person of interest beyond tomorrow (Sunday) if charges are not filed. He said he is hoping an arraignment will take place “sooner rather than later.” {link w/ video}
Shortly before midnight local authorities announced they were releasing the “person of interest”, aka Benjamin Erickson, but told the community not to worry as there is no alternative threat to the community. WATCH:
RHODE ISLAND – PROVIDENCE: A person of interest detained after a Brown University shooting that killed two students and injured nine will be released after an investigation took law enforcement authorities in a “different direction,” officials said Sunday night.
The disclosure, made at a hastily convened late night news conference, represents a stunning turn of events in an investigation into killings that rattled the Ivy League campus and came more than 12 hours after officials had announced that they had taken a person into custody in connection with the attack.
[…] The gunman opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering building, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9 mm handgun, a law enforcement official told AP. Two handguns were recovered when the person of interest was taken into custody and authorities also found two loaded 30-round magazines, the official said. One of the firearms was equipped with a laser sight that projects a dot to aid in targeting, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke to AP on the condition of anonymity.
One student of the nine wounded students had been released from the hospital, said Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition. (READ MORE)
Occam’s Razor. The suspect, Benjamin Erickson, could only be held for 24 hours without charges. [Detained overnight Sat, clock ticks to overnight Sun] The attorney general would have needed to file charges on Sunday evening to avoid detainment issue. The AG office doesn’t work full staff on Sunday, and the police detainment was too fast for them. RESULT: Benjamin Erickson is released.
This is Providence, Rhode Island. One of the most Moonbat communities in a sea of Moonbat politics. DEI, not competency, is their operational language. It’s just how the far-left rolls in combination with a police arrest of an individual who holds the same ideological alignment as the local officials in charge.
[SOURCE]
Ultimately, as suspected and rumored within the discussion of this story, the shooter (leftist) and the victims (conservatives) are on opposite sides of the political dynamic. A college republican group on this campus would be a very small segment of the overall student/faculty population.
“The shooting happened during a final exam review session in a Principles of Economics class, according to the class’s professor, Rachel Friedberg. She did not immediately respond to a message seeking more information.” (Source)
As the mayor said, there is no “risk” to the larger Providence community in releasing the suspect, because the motives of the shooting indicate only a very narrow segment of the Providence population would be targeted.

Apparently, the dude they arrested had laser sights which are about as common as dirt. You can get them from Amazon. Ignorance like this is what you get when you don’t have a gun culture in the community from which you draw your police. Media, of course, are even worse.
Also remember that applies to the ATF and FBI teams working the case.
“Brown University President Christina Paxson told reporters that almost all of those injured were students. She said the incident was something no one ever wants to experience, but it had happened”.
This is the level of competency you are dealing with in Brown.
Absolutely.
He wrote the numbers of the days of our lives in His book before the foundation of the earth was formed.
He knows the numbers of the hairs on our head.
He knows when a sparrow falls, and we are of much greater worth.
His ways are higher than our ways and we cannot begin to fathom His thoughts and plans.
Yes, God has the plan for every life here on this earth He spoke into existence.
Wow. Just Fing Wow.
Must have gotten a call from FBI/CIA or another Democrat operative that “he’s one of ours. Let him go.”
We’ve got the real perp!
The Marxist revolution, with their stupid side kicks the Muslim so called religion, is now in full swing. Alfred E Newman is a perfect cartoon to illustrate the intelligence of a large portion of our population. The situation is a pretty sorry indictment of our present population of Freedom loving people. I know I sound like a broken record, but everyday we are finding out more that should be opening our eyes much wider than they have been for generations now. It is hitting the fan and President Trump is the only leader in the world who seems to have clear vision.
Hmmm.a Democommunist…picture of Petey Buttgager.
Wow!
At about the 24-minute mark, note the uneasy body language going on by the Leftards on the screen…cameras? What cameras?
Where’s the FBLIE?
So, the shooter gets out almost immediately because he’s no threat to the other communists who live, work, and go to school there. Only loyal Americans need be afraid and nobody cares about them anyway
That is some kind of admission of what this country is up against.
I’m betting the perp walks without even a slap on the wrist.
I think he has already accomplished that. The chicken s***s are trying to make sure he is out of the country before the Fibbies are forced to go to work. Rhode Island is a frightened little State. Hiding is what they have always done to protect the pots of wealth produced by their ancestors.
re: “almost immediately”
24 hrs =/= immediately.
This does show a problem with the PD / DA though …
I doubt they had evidence to make charges stick against the vet Erickson.
With 810+ cameras on campus, it’s amazing that they don’t have better photos.
Possibly the real killer probably doesn’t fit the desired leftist blame-model, & the authorities are starting to squirm.
All libs all-the-time now. Tragic.
The compact city reached its peak about 25 years ago during the reign of visionary mayor (& crook) Buddy Cianci.
Brown & RISD are on Federal Hill on the east part of Prov center. Nice walking areas down to the east river area.
Beautiful in Spring- warmer temp zone.
Chances are they’ll hide the true killer’s id as long as possible.
Most likely a fellow student did it.
…. And then find a patsy. Pipe bomber 2.0
The mayor of Providence is a like, a queer, and married to a man. Ticks all the boxes.
It’s just as likely they detained the one White conservative guy on campus with a concealed carry permit, to pin the blame on him while they quietly delete all footage showing otherwise.

very beautiful.
in those days, the Verrazzano bridge was under construction and
parts of the temporary structure could give seasoned rock climbers instant acrophobia.
crossed it once, after that took the 1&1/2 hour long way around land route.
at that time, the Italian mob had a very large footprint in the state.
certain towns and restaurants were famous for their patronage.
one didn’t go there. 🫣
but Brown was always as self-contained as they could muster;
had a reputation for the “L” life of LGBTxyz fame; very expensive;
lovely, quiet campus; nowhere near as arrogant as some of the other Ivy Leaguers;
yes, kooky leftists, but pretty much kept to themselves.
the point that can be applied to a greater perspective is that Brown thought they could insulate themselves –
from the repercussions of their ideology, from the city, from the state, from the region,
and (until graduation) from the country.
much to their shock, the creeping insanity found them in their toney ivory tower.
if any “middle management elites” take notice, they should be making a hard right turn just about now.
there is no safe harbor, no retreat, no hiding from what your fellow travelers have purposefully unleashed on the country.
you have only your lefty policies to blame – from open borders to mental health “care” to lethal politics to no cash bail required.
if you don’t learn the lessons here, it is your right to sacrifice yourselves…
but don’t expect anybody else to willingly go along with your decision.
we can only hope to salvage some changed minds from this tragedy.
and if stuff like this doesn’t do it?
RIP to the victims.
It seems to me the target was Ella Cook, a strong Conservative, who had a lot of influence with young college students. I see a pattern, like Charlie Kirk – they must be silenced one way or the other. Then you get the Australian PM blaming guns and the “far right” for the terrorist attack there.
Seems that a look at the staff might be in order? 🤔
Does anyone remember Richard Jewell?
Yes. We have had other rush to judgment episodes for sure.
When will they realize it is not a matter of ‘radicalization’ or extremism. It is a matter of, as Bush erroneously put it ,the ROP.
Once again, Pam Bondi is a useless failure. So is Kash Patel. Federal charges could and should have been filed BEFORE the gunman was released, and he should have been taken into federal custody.
We don’t live in an over-arching federally-controlled state, yet … is that what you want?
Maybe he is Richard Jewell.
But Patel isn’t One Eyed Judge Freeh with the Biden trust fund relationship.
So they are going to be sure they aren’t jumping to conclusions at a very fraught political moment.
We protect person of interest or suspects not the community or people at large. Bandits have expanded rights while we tie up our law enforcement personnel. Legal insanity…bill
Certain bandits have expanded rights…

What did a swab of his hands show – any residue from firing a firearm?
This is a standard pre-finals review for a class taken by a wide variety of students and the theory is that some Lefty college grade drives halfway across the country, from one college town to another, to assassinate a random Republican in that class?
I’m beginning to think 99.99 percent of readership did not read this, or, failed to comprehend it:
Occam’s Razor. The suspect, Benjamin Erickson, could only be held for 24 hours without charges. [Detained overnight Sat, clock ticks to overnight Sun] The attorney general would have needed to file charges on Sunday evening to avoid detainment issue. The AG office doesn’t work full staff on Sunday, and the police detainment was too fast for them. RESULT: Benjamin Erickson is released.
People read it, or at least I did, and the question is: “could they not have called some AG staff in w/in that 24hr period to write up the charges?” I find it hard to believe a heinous crime like this couldn’t have warranted an ’emergency action’ to bring a lawyer or two in.
-Assuming the guy really did it- (and there are several survivors that would’ve seen it first hand.. get statements, maybe?!)
Twenty-four hours seems plenty long enough to put together some charging statement/docs to hold the guy until ‘better’ docs could be assembled… assuming the reasons they didn’t do this are that “they needed time to put the case together” first.
So, put ‘a’ case together to charge him with and upgrade the charges later as more of the case is built. They do this all the time in real AG/DA offices.
Letting this guy walk is ridiculous… he’s going to wind up offing himself and while that may be some kind of justice, the parents of the dead will be robbed of full disclosure that would come out in trial. I’d want to know exactly -why- he did it, whatever the crazy reason, just for closure.
So, the irritation people are expressing here is well-founded, imho.
edit: and yes, of course, if this guy is not ‘the guy’, then yes, let him go. But their statement indicated “letting this guy out wouldn’t compromise anyone’s safety” as if to imply “we are going to watch him, that’s why”… vs “yeah, we have no idea who did it, but please continue to feel safe!”
Or they simply realized they grabbed the wrong guy. Their statements upon his release seemed quite unambiguous.
I read this. And my response is if the victims had been a “protected minority” either the state or Federal governments would have found some way to charge him with something, even if it was for jaywalking and even if it was 11:55 PM on Sunday night, and even if they knew he was innocent. Because when the “right” type of person is a victim, the full power of the State is deployed as quickly and as forcefully as possible, even when doing so is inappropriate.
In this instance, the impression is left that since someone shot up college conservatives there is no imminent threat to the public, or at least the public that deserves protection, so officials promise to get around to it eventually.
Nobody has even asked how the Obama/Holder gang managed to make this crap a part of law enforcement.
Who said the suspect can not be held more than 24 hours without charges. Whoever it was obviously didn’t pipe up about 2000 Americans being held in DC area jails until charges could be found to justify holding them. Maybe we have another case of selective justice going on. All of the Rhode Island “officials” come off as politically correct and stupid at that. We have seen this play out so many times it has become monotonous to watch. It is like watching The Three Stooges for three hours.
These bozos are at war with us and we had better at least know that much.
Hence the Constitutional protection of no Double Jeopardy…bingo

Where the moonbat viewpoint hangs heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams full of joy and glee
Work hard for all her grades, way above a C
She saw this crazy place, MAGAs not welcome
They spoke about the red hat’s way, how they hate it
She stayed there anyway, gave it all a try
Never thought Brown was the school for a place to die

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Brown University Medical School’s charity sharks manipulated my ninety five year old father into handing them millions from an inviolable Living Trust.
When I wrote to Brown’s two presidents, Sheila Blumstein and Ruth Simmons, asking if Brown had accepted any donations in any form from our family, both individuals lied, and denied accepting anything when records say the opposite.
Alex Hsieh was a close associate of the slain Ella Cook and the Brown Young Republicans. Not long ago, young Hsieh made national news when he exposed Brown as a giant money laundry which manipulates high dollar donations from the elderly, as well as takes in overpriced tuition and spends it on innumerable useless employees and incompetent teaching personnel.
I contacted Mr. Hsieh, told him briefly of our experience with Brown and offered to give him more details. Instinct said I would not be hearing from him, as Brown reportedly had threatened Mr. Hsieh into silence, and my impression was his days at Brown were numbered.”
Reports of Ella Cook’s murder describe Mr. Hsieh as a former Brown student, proving that instinct was correct. Brown is run like a communist money laundry.
Backed by a great deal of mid-east money, they will likely close ranks, order all involved to refrain from speaking about the shootings to protect their ‘narrative’ and the shooter.
Never trust them.
They took millions from us against a background of several suspicious deaths, and lied. That’s what Brown does.
@LauraLoomer
Brown University mass shooter yelled “Allahu Akbar” before opening fire on campus according to sources.
How come the media is suppressing eye witness testimony about how the shooter at Brown University allegedly shouted Allahu Akbar before he opened fire on campus the night before the first night of Hanukkah?
https://x.com/i/status/2000206483913400742
The media is only saying “he shouted something” before he opened fire.
Source tells me he yelled Allahu Akbar, but it’s being kept quiet by police and the Democrats who run Rhode Island.
TELL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THE TRUTH! TELL THEM WHAT WAS SHOUTED!
Did Brown hold a candlelight vigil to commemorate the two students who were murdered?
This is another John Brown moment. We are in the early stages of a hot war. These shooters are not accidental.
