There has been a slight bit of ambiguity in President Trump’s schedule as he heads to Asia for the first time in his second term. The President will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Malaysia first. The focus of President Trump and the ASEAN nations will be economics and regional stability. Then President Trump will then head to Japan.
Washington and Tokyo reached a trade agreement earlier this year, which included the promise of $550 billion of investments in U.S. projects. Interestingly, Japan is in a moment of political transition, as Sanae Takaichi was elected to be the country’s first female prime minister. Takaichi is a protégé of Shinzo Abe, a former prime minister and dear friend of President Trump. The meeting between Takaichi and Trump will likely hold a lot of very positive energy for both leaders; there is great respect.
President Trump will then head to South Korea, which is hosting this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. President Trump has said he’ll sit down with Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping while he’s there for a much-anticipated meeting. Additionally, President Trump will be discussing tariffs on South Korean autos and directly addressing stalled trade negotiations. There is also a possibility for President Trump to visit North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and reconnect after several years of separation. There is a lot of potential for this overall visit to Asia.
.

Bon voyage and good luck 47.
May The LORD Bless these meetings.
May HIS WILL Be done.
In JESUS PRECIOUS & HOLY NAME,
AMEN, AMEN, & AMEN
Don’t think getting on the bad side of President Trump is ever advisable and Canada is doing a bang up job of achieving it.
So proud that he is our President 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Traveled to Kuala Lumpur many times for business before retiring. As a former British colony, English is widely spoken and is the language of business, but can have strange spellings: for example, taxi, is spelled “teksi,” and complex is spelled “kompleks.” The Malays will speak in their language to each other, and the Chinese will speak to each other in, I believe, Cantonese.
KL has some of the best modern architecture in the world with a distinct Arabic influence. Country is approximately 60% Malay, 25% Chinese, and the rest Indian, etc. The country’s official religion is Islam, but other religions are tolerated; however, there are always a few local hotheads. If you are Islamic you must follow Sharia, but if you are not then you do not (there are bars and restaurants that serve alcohol and there is a brewery in the KL suburbs). I would see in downtown KL women in burqas, while standing next to an Australian woman tourist with practically no clothes on (very hot, humid climate). Virtually all food is Halal, but if you search, one can find Chinese areas with pork, etc (kept quiet and well hidden). KL is the land of huge shopping malls (not much else to do).
Historically, right after gaining independence from Britain, there were many clashes between the Malays and Chinese, leading to one province breaking away forming what is today Singapore. Unfortunately, these is still large animosity between the Malays and Chinese, as almost all businesses are owned by Chinese, and the government workers are all Malay. However, the government takes large efforts to try to maintain “harmony” as all major religions have national Holidays there. Many of the Chinese are Christians and Christmas interestingly is a national holiday there. However, one cannot enter the country with an Israel passport (last I looked).
There are industrial areas near KL with large modern factories. I suspect the president is going to the meeting for trade discussions, of course. Sounds like he intentionally does not have a full schedule on the trip (or intentionally not well publicized) in order to meet certain country leaders.
Thanks for sharing your experience there. I learned a lot.
Aside from Peninsular Malay, you also have to consider Sarawak and Sabah. There is a significant Christian population in Sarawak (native non-Chinese) but also the Muslin influence in Sabah (and of course Brunei). Malaysia, Philippines, and China fight over sovereignty of some islands in the old Sulu Sultanate which included part of Mindinao.
President Trump left town the WORK. The Senate left town to celebrate Halloween. The House cancelled the Hillary and Bill Clinton depositions, so they can stay out of town and party. Only 20 work-days on the calendar for them between now and January 2nd.. It’s too bad Americans don’t understand how bad it is to have a Congress who doesn’t work hard like President Trump.
Congress spends way too much of our money as it is. Can you imagine if they worked full time? Our tax rates would be 80%.
Thune and Johnson do the absolute Minimum needed to keep an R in their titles.
Most Repubs in CON gre$$ are rinoRats grifting along with their cousin Rats, the democRats.
Father, hallowed be Thy name. Grant favor and safety for President Trump and his team through the power of the Holy Spirit, in the precious name of Jesus. Amen
MAGA.
