First Lady Melania Trump announces the initial results from her joint collaboration effort to reunify displaced children during the Ukraine/Russia conflict.
Announcing that she holds a direct line of communication between herself and Russian President Vladimir Putin, First Lady Melania Trump also noted that a personal representative acting on her behalf (perhaps Ric Grenell) has coordinated the safe transfer process for reunification of children both from Ukraine to Russia and from Russia to Ukraine.
Mrs Trump was born in what is now Slovenia when that country was part of the former Yugoslavia. Melania Trump speaks Russian. The First Lady made the stunning announcement in the Grand Foyer of the White House. Melania told reporters “much [had] unfolded” since she sent a letter in August to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the fate of children who’ve been taken to Russia after being caught up in the front-line conflict. First Lady Melania Trump said her “representative” has been “working directly with President Putin’s team to ensure the safe reunification of children with their families between Russia and Ukraine,” starting with eight children who have been “rejoined with their families” over the last 24 hours.
Of those eight, Mrs Trump said three had been “separated from their parents and displaced to the Russian Federation because of frontline fighting” while the other five had been “separated from family members across borders because of the conflict,” with one of the five children being a Russian girl stuck in Ukraine who was repatriated to Russia.

Wonderful news but there is a “glitch”. Melania stated that this agreement is for children who have turned 18 years of age. The Russians took many very young children from Ukraine. I pray this agreement begins to return the younger children as well.
Hate to turn this into a tabloid, but here’s my recollection: Putin allegedly had Ukrainian children removed to keep them out of harm’s way — not just protecting them from bombs and mayhem, but protecting them from being used experimentally in the biohazard labs, or having their organs sold.

No, she said that children who had recently turned 18 would “also” be returned. In other words, treated as the children they were when displaced.

A few years ago, I remember reading about very young Ukrainian children being taken into Russia so they could be adopted by childless Russian couples. I hope these children are returned to their Ukrainian families.

I don’t know how to put this into words, but I don’t believe there is an official job description for the role of the First Lady. I think Melania Trump has provided an outstanding role model of how a First Lady conducts herself in this office. Her support for our President and her compassion for these displaced children due to the Ukraine/Russia war is a great start.
Loved also that the First Lady turned her back on the press and quietly returned to her offices with the doors being perfectly closed behind her.

Although it was never acknowledged that she spoke Russian, it was acknowledged that the had other language(s) in common.
