If they mess up any peace negotiations to keep the war going indefinitely, Trump can and should tell them that Ukraine is now their problem alone and the U.S. is walking away from the whole mess. No more U.S. money, no more U.S. weapons, no more intelligence sharing, and a firm veto on any NATO involvement.
If they don’t like that, and they wouldn’t (they would immediately change tune and plead with the U.S. to stay involved), then they might just have to accept that at a minimum Ukraine will have to surrender the entire Donbas area, accept that Crimea never really was part of Ukraine and is off the table, that the Nazi Azov units must be permanently disbanded, and that Ukraine cannot join NATO. In other words, they accept Russia’s original pre-2022 demands as a minimum condition. Russia is probably more than willing to negotiate over everything else.
As for a security guarantee for Ukraine, those Europeans may just have to step up and provide for that themselves, without any U.S. or NATO commitment, regardless of what happens.

Yes, such a trade deal could convert many of those same Europeans. Trump cannot unilaterally pull out of NATO because of the 2024 NDAA that prohibits a President from doing so (it was intended just for him) without approval of at least two-thirds of the Senate, although that prohibition might be an unconstitutional infringement on his Article 2 foreign policy authority. But maintaining our ability to have a veto over anything the Europeans want to do with NATO is a good thing.
Perhaps President Trump can/will give Russia a blanket to help them get out of the war, something evidently all others want to keep going. What if we opened trade with them? Doesn’t that make them an ally of sorts?
We agreed not advance nato to the East after the fall of the Berlin wall. Our movement of nato borders is an extreme provocation of Russia.
So, the answer is one of two things and only one of two things. The nato borders go back to the original borders when we promise not to move them. Or, in light of the fact that nato will not give up any land because that expansion is the growing borders of the inchoate world government, Russia takes enough of Ukraine land to ensure their own security. I didn’t remember that the United States promised to halt the advance of NATO expansion towards Russia that far back. I do know that President Bush promised the same thing as part of the Ukraine giving up its Nuclear weapons. I frankly have lost count of the numbers of commitments the U.S. has failed to deliver on.
My understanding is that the Ukraine never had nuclear weapons or their launch codes. Those weapons were the responsibility of the Soviet Union and when the USSR imploded from within, Russia took responsibility for all nuclear weapons, all debts, etc after granting independence to the regions.
James Baker, Secretary of State at the time, told Gorbachev that NATO would move “not one inch eastward” in a meeting with Gorbachev on February 9, 1990, during the German reunification process. On becoming President, Bill Clinton almost immediately reneged on the deal. Russia complained, and kept complaining as they moved further and further east, but no one was listening.

RUSSIAN MINISTRY OF DEFENSE: KIEV REGIME IS PREPARING TO ATTACK THEIR OWN CIVILIANS, AND BLAME RUSSIA, TO DISRUPT ALASKA SUMMIT (The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has just circulated the following report on their Telegram channel, on preparations by Ukraine to conduct a “false-flag” military attack against their own population, and then blame this on the Russian military, for the purpose of disrupting the US/Russia summit in Alaska August 15):

️According to available information received through several channels, the Kiev regime is preparing a provocation to foil the Russian-American talks scheduled for 15 August 2025.
To this end, on Monday, 11 August 2025, a group of journalists from foreign media under the cover of the legend of ‘preparing of a series of reports on residents of the city in the frontline zone’ has been delivered by the Security Service of Ukraine to the city of Chuguev (Kharkov region).
Immediately ahead of the summit on Friday, the Armed Forces of Ukraine plan a provocative strike using UAVs and missiles against one of the densely populated residential quarters or a hospital with a large number of civilian casualties, which will have to be immediately recorded by the foreign Western journalists.
As a result of the Kiev regime’s provocation, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be considered fully responsible for the strikes and civilian casualties. This will create a negative media background and conditions for disrupting Russian-American cooperation on settling the conflict in Ukraine.
There may also be provocations in other settlements controlled by the Kiev regime.

Hopefully this advance publicity of that dirty ‘false flag’ plan will discourage the corrupt Kiev regime from trying it.
If Zelensky and E.U. folks persist in this song and dance saying they are for peace but essentially subverting any chance of it, please withdraw and let them handle things themselves.
There are so many of us whose hearts ache for the Ukrainian people under the thumb of these reprobates, but we are tired of being taken for granted. The US helping the E.U. and others to drag this out is so counterproductive.
