To understand the dynamic, it is necessary to remain elevated and unemotional as the confrontation takes place.
The U.S. Senate currently has two issues of great importance to President Trump within their upper chamber. The first is the Big Beautiful Bill (a reconciliation spending and budget plan). The second is Senate positioning on sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine. Both are of great importance when you consider the domestic and geopolitical ramifications.
President Trump wants the BBB structurally passed and doesn’t care about the nibbling on the edges or customary Christmas Tree decorations (special interest add-ons). Trump wants the Term-1 tax cuts extended and the border security money, these are must haves.
On the Ukraine/Russia stuff, Trump basically wants the Senate to back away from doing anything that influences his leverage positions for a resolution he will construct. However, President Trump knows the Senate fully supports the proxy war aspect to the conflict (he doesn’t).
Trump has remained relatively quiet on Ukraine-Russia because he doesn’t want to antagonize the Senate who will use their affirmative votes for BBB as leverage to maintain the proxy war and support Ukraine. That’s the background on the BBB, Russia, Ukraine and Trump’s position.
Into this foray comes the always self-interested and short-sighted Elon Musk who -despite being an influence asset at times- has the most annoying habit of never considering the downstream consequences for his selfishness.
As Musk rails against the BBB, which took 14 months of work from the House to get across the line he runs the risk of collapsing the BBB in the senate.
The longer the BBB sits in the Senate and/or gets changed so much it will take forever to get through the House again; the longer Trump has to bite his tongue on solving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Musk in his infinite selfishness, cannot see how he is doing real damage to Trump’s objective around Russia by stirring up opposition to the BBB. Things were getting ugly yesterday and became more so today.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio knows the strategic stakes here and there’s no love lost between Rubio and Musk after Elon told Rubio he wasn’t cutting enough people at the State Dept.
Keep in mind, Marco Rubio was chair of the senate select committee on intelligence and a Gang of Eight member since day one of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Rubio was briefed on all the covert activities being carried out in Ukraine by the CIA and Pentagon. That’s why when Secretary of State Marco Rubio told media months ago that “Ukraine was a proxy war for the United States against Russia,” it was jaw-dropping. If anyone would know the receipts, it’s the former Chair of the SSCI.
Both Marco Rubio and President Trump have been mostly silent and very measured in their comments about Russia after the Ukraine attack on the Russian nuclear-capable bombers. Both Rubio and Trump know the Senate control of the BBB right now is bad timing for their solutions to the Ukraine-Russia war that the Senate will not like.
Quite simply, Elon Musk is screwing all that stuff up with his anti-BBB rants and unhinged ravings, that are supported and fueled by the same voices who want to diminish the power and influence of President Trump.

The cuteness of little X thrown in was a bonus and it surely broke up the seriousness of what was happening with his Dad and the President trying to get America on the right path fiscally. President Trump was very tolerant of that little guy and seemed to enjoy his company. A true grandpa in action and a true representation of our President and his love of people.
It’s just kind of a downer -even if predictable- that this more upbeat part of the Presidential focus on getting America straightened out now has to turn a sour note and we have to listen to the enemy’s gleeful gloating over this break up they hated so much to begin with. Oh well, on we go.

Hello all my fellow Treepers – it’s been a while! After the election, I’ve been kind of laying low, basking in it all and enjoying life. After a decade of following all of this, my mental health and other priorities have come into play in my life, and while I’ve stepped away from a lot of direct engagement, I’ve been keeping one eye on things as they progress.
One thing I’ve learned with following and supporting Trump over the years, is to never have a knee-jerk reaction to upsetting or worrisome news. You always have to let the world take a turn, as my dad used to say. So I am going to try to do that in this case. But I have to admit, I do have a bit of butterflies over the entire Musk situation, so I will be keeping an eye on the situation before freaking out or anything.
That said, while I have zero idea of what is actually going on behind the scenes, I will note one good thing that may come from a Trump-Musk schism and that is taking away the left’s talking points about how horrible Musk is and they find themselves in a situation where they will definitely feel the need to take sides.
So will Musk now become the new hero of the left? Or will he just be generally hated by all? Personally, I do not care if he supports the BBB or not. To each his own. But I definitely do NOT appreciate his reference to the Epstein files when we know for a fact Trump had nothing to do with any of that stuff and actually defended the victims.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello to everyone and let you all know that I’m still here and am solidly Team Trump. MAGA!!!

I would not want to obstruct Trump’s overall agenda, by opposing the BBB. I really don’t. I also trust Trump, and take him at his word about his intentions. However, I also trusted Reagan’s intentions. Reagan got rolled by a (then) Democrat controlled Congress, and later divided with the Senate in the hands of the GOP (if my recollection is correct).
I’ve heard the same GOP B.S. for fifty years about “balancing the budget”. For the past 25 years, they haven’t even bothered with a budget to balance. Posobiec likes to ask “Do they know what time it is?” With a government burning, country trashing, out of control national debt, there is NOT ONE SINGLE elected GOP politician who should be asking for the smallest spec of pork, of set-asides for his district or state. The debt is plain ruinous. It’s a house fire running on magnesium.
I just can’t accept “trust us ONE more time, and we’ll work this all out, just spend $2.5 TRILLION MORE this time, more than Biden’s $1.7T deficit, and we’ll fix it”, from anyone in the GOP, including Trump. No, they won’t fix it. With the current 2025 bill, they aren’t even bothering to try.
As far as Musk and his EV tax credits, he’s EARNED the right to have a seat at the table, by virtue of representing his corporate interests (i.e. shareholders are American taxpayers, too), as well as his contribution to MAGA. The EV tax credits are as ridiculous as the ethanol credits, but neither of those alone, are busting the federal budget.
I understand the logic of Trump, of Sundance here, and Bannon, and respect them all. However, I also respectfully disagree with them, not because I don’t trust them. I disagree because I KNOW I can’t trust the GOP Senate and House, to cut anything, now, tomorrow, 100 years from now. They’ll just ride this horse into the ground, take their own graft dollars, and walk away with their hands in the air saying “Well, I tried, but it was just too hard”, while the rest of America starves. (Aside: I KNOW the Democrats are the source of all the government graft, but I also know the GOP won’t oppose the Dems, so, who are the bad guys again?)
Actually the budget was balanced briefly after the Contract with America under Clinton and Gingrich. The economy was benefiting from the internet. Perhaps we can enjoy a similar state with AI as well as returning mfg to America.

The phenomenon of ‘Aspie meltdown’, a disproportionate reaction to the trigger, often with extreme outbursts of anger, is well known, as is their difficulty to communicate appropriately, in a given situation. They also are often extremely arrogant, and if this is not a piece of scripted theatre I’d suggest Elon’s outbursts might be partly because Trump has proved himself to be far less malleable and compliant, than he’d assumed.

IMHO, having worked with people with similar condition, Elon’s better outside than in, because this meltdown, often when the world fails to behave to their idealistic model is a case of when, not if.
I don’t want to do a “pile on” but I have always felt uneasy about Musk, but have relied on Trump’s smarts to provide comfort. I have been involved in business with a few South Africans and they have a different attitude to other people and life in general. They often believe they are the only one with intelligence and can become quite aggressive in their pursuit of what they feel is correct. Subtle is not a word I would use to describe their trait nor empathy.
Well the demonrats are in the process of destroying themselves someone had to save them. Its going to be fun to watch them fall in love with Elon and Teslas all over again.

Sadly, this is what happens when you rely on an autist for any purpose. They have difficulty seeing beyond their own needs and desires, which always come first. Musk is autistic. While some of the results of his actions have been positive, they have always been driven by his personal interest. It was never about MAGA for him.

Musk was inevitably going to do this. Rand Paul is one I find myself feeling a stronger sense of…..lets call it severe dislike. Paul paraded himself around in December of last year stating that he wanted to make Trump tax cuts permanent so long as it coincided with structural spending reform, which was the point of DOGE. The great pretending now is to simply point at the deficit and act as if he’s taking the high ground. As Sundance had correctly predicted with Musk…..fellow travelers like Paul will follow suite in their own way in the fullness of time.

This will play out. Like Sundance, I trust in the Lord and I stand by Trump. The BBB has been rather battered in the press, but I still remember plenty of promises made by Pres. Trump. Beside I-35, in Oklahoma, there are still 2020 campaign billboards that show a great photo of Pres. Trump and the words: “Promises Made. Promises Kept.”
Whomever paid to put those billboards up –is still paying to keep them up. (Thank you to that person.)

As I write this, Elon has cooled off, and things seem to be settling down. However,, one thing Elon may have discovered:: People support him because he supports Trump. If he does not support Trump, his fan base dwindles practically to zero.
Elon doesn’t hold any cards in his hand. He has no mass political base. His popularity is almost entirely due to his association and alignment with Trump.
Elon is sporting that classic demonic “tell” in his eyes that we’ve seen before and know it well.
