Folks, I know this is going to be hard, but we must remain steadfast in bearing the burden of new tariffs for our essential items. Hermes has announced they will pass along the cost of President Trump’s tariffs to consumers.
Currently, Hermes branded purses ranging from $20,000 to $200,000 are purchased by a whopping 0.001% of Americans, yet 90% of wives for Wall Street hedge fund managers have them.
Yes, this is going to be a painful price increase; however, it is our patriotic duty to withstand it. We can survive it.
NEW YORK – […] The Paris-based company — which manufactures the vast majority of its goods in France — will raise prices enough to offset any hit to growth from the current 10% tariff on the European Union, according to Eric du Halgouet, Hermes’ executive vice president of finance.
If Hermes adds the 10% tax, US shoppers could pay an additional $2,000 on a lower-cost model, or an extra $20,000 on a $200,000 handbag. (read more)
If you have any tips or advice on how to deal with increased emotional anxiety as a result of this horrific announcement, please provide your words of wisdom in the comments section. If we lean on each other for support, we can get through this.
“Reciprocity! The nerve of that man.”

@sundance and treepers if anyone doesn’t understand the definition of sarcasm they don’t need to look in the dictionary for a picture or a definition. Send them this blog post and all of the comments under Sundance’s post. Also, send this blog post to the so called late night “comedians” on tv they may learn how to do comedy. SMH
Humor is a sign of intelligence, so you’ll find it on CTH but not on whacko liberal websites.
Lol well said! I agree 100%
I had a budget of only $200k to buy these purses as gifts for women in the family. Dang, I guess I will only be able to buy three, which only leaves me with $24,522.50 after all CT and Federal taxes are applied……NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I’m over here suffering with my leftover $24,522.50. Guess I’ll have to “slum it” by chartering a private jet from Miami to Turks and Caicos for me, my wife, and our equally oppressed friends.
Yup, a light jet’s only $14,500 round-trip to whisk us to Providenciales. That leaves me a pathetic $10,022.50 to blow on a high-end resort. Sigh. Beaches Turks and Caicos, you all-inclusive peasant paradise, will have to do for a 2-night stay at a measly $5,856. Covers meals, activities, whatever. I’m practically penniless with just $4,166.50 left for spa treatments ($600, because my cuticles are stressed) or some basic excursion. Total damage? A trifling $20,956, leaving me a sad $3,566.50 for conch fritters at Da Conch Shack or, I dunno, tipping the jet pilot.
Damn it MAGA!!!!!
Couldn’t you just fly to Europe or Asia and purchase the bags there? They are cheaper in the EU to begin with and the VAT refund should cover US customs. Or smuggle it in?
Or, I can call them Maryland Purses so that Senators will fly over and demand that those purses be returned to their rightful place.
I almost sprayed beer thru my nose when I read that. Good one
Me, too, and I don’t even drink beer.
Thread winner!
there will be an increased market on the sidewalks of New York
for faux designer handbags
I purchased a Louis Vitton once as a joke; gift for someone.
it looked identical to the real thing which my daughter owned
Personally, I thought those brown canvas bags were ugly
How can anyone fly to Europe let alone Asia with stressed cuticles! Have you no compassion 💔
Chef’s kiss, PRH… – *Chef’s Kiss*. 🙂
well, at least that extra 5K didn’t mean starvation for your family…
Give it a few days, at this rate, I won’t even be able to get the cuticles done.
Not directed at you M.B, or the others adding their snark….for those who read this thread and you get that wealth envy feeling starting to surge…the threads satire. 🤷
First the eggs now the handbags??? I’ve had enough. “Trump” has to go…
My girlfriend just found last years model at goodwill. Oh it’s a Chinese knockoff, oh bother, it was only 2 bucks.
Is it a knock-off? I commented on Dutch’s post about this (currently page 1). It is likely that the purse was made at the same factory, with the same materials, under the same patterns, using the same OEM process.
It’s not a knockoff; it’s just not distributed through Hermes. It can’t be a knockoff if it was manufactured by the same manufacturer using OEM specs and processes. They sell directly and avoid the Hermes middleman.
Probably bought it in Hong Kong where all the “knock offs” are sold…and it ended up at Goodwill.
They’ll have to charge $2.25 next week.
😂
My doctor gave me a prescription that cured my Hermes.
Oh, wait … that was for something else.
😀
Zing!!!
Ouch😂
Maybe the company should change the name instead of implementing a fake tariff increase.
They have a new bag coming out to cut costs- it’s called the Hermes simplex.
🙌
I sort of bought something Hermes offered once. They had a $30k fly rod setup. I bought the blank to finish myself at $400 from North Fork Composites. Most expensive rod I’ll probably ever buy, even though I get more use out of my fly rods than my guns or even some tools. I’ll typically buy a blank for less than $100 and make my own. One time I managed to pick up a gently restored 7 weight bamboo rod on auction for less than a $100 and it had both tips. I’d love to have a Thomas and Thomas rod (the rod you will eventually own is their tag line), or a Bill Oyster bamboo, but I’m not going to pay that much money for it. They aren’t going to catch the fish for me, clean, and cook them. The Hermes handbag isn’t a bag of holding. If you know you know.
JC… I gave my grandson a Fenwick I had tucked away since the 70’s. It had an old automatic reel on it. It still casted just fine and with a little tap-tap on the retrieval, the Sandy Mite caught plenty of fish. He was thrilled and caught the bug of a good life, working the currents in a trout stream. Hermes what? Who needs this so-called “upgraded” donk? Just get out there and live a rewarding life with simple tools that can help make it happen.
This feels almost as bad as when we had to start using see-thru bags at sporting events.
We initiated the see-through bag policy at a school where I once taught
It was too traumatic!
Exposure to hundreds of bags filled with teenage debris was overwhelming!
Yet another policy faded into the sunset.
🌇
Oh, dear, I will have to go to Canal Street in New York City for a knockoff..
Jasmine Crocke- sh*t big mad.
Meh, I tell you, a mere 5K is chump change to these folk of a bloated ego!
… for now.
In case any of you uncouth ignorant rubes are unaware of the importance of Hermes to your daily life as an American, be reminded of the fact that when Oprah was not allowed inside one of their stores in Paris, due to its being closed for a private party, it created an international incident.
We can’t have that, so pay attention, see where this goes.
I Remember that incident well. Hermes be rayciss or sumtin…
They start at around 4000 dollars so maybe hedge fund employees and their wives not just the owners will be affected. Hermes should be embarrassed – their profit margin is insane – they are passing this along because it gives them an out of cycle price increase.
Most luxury brands do scheduled price increases once or twice a year, but this gives Hermes and excuse for an extra price increase.
There’s likely a political point to – their politics probably don’t align with MAGA’s foreign policy not just trade policy.

*Ahem* [clears throat]…
…- JUMP YOU F*CKERS!!!…
Oh dang, don’t pull any punches SO.
…- I do my level best not to, where banksters, hedge fundies, finance bros and their various assorted ilk and sundry other hangers-on are concerned, CBB…
Nominal determinism strikes yet again.
Can’t stop laughing at this reply., Sgt. SO GOOD!
It’s so hard for one who can actually afford a $50K bag, to cough up another 5K. Somehow, my pity quotient is at an all-time low, in a world with real problems, whether accidental or thrust upon it
“Let them eat Cake…..and Ice Cream Too!”
‘Oh, Thurston, what SHALL i do? I just can NOT go out in public with a mere Coach or versace bag. Oh, Hermes, save me!”
Instead of buying Hermes bags, you could more clearly represent yourself to the world by simply wearing a clown wig and dunce cap.
The fact these exist proves human stupidity
Buy American! You can still get a ‘Made in America” Hunter Biden finger painting for half a mil.
Are you sure that was his finger?
Let me check…
Yup! No one i know cares.
OMG. Trump is finished this time.
The walls are closing in….
Hermes doesn’t actually make their bags in France, either. They’re made in China and then “finished” in France – with install of certain stitching, labels, and maybe some hardware. Many luxury brands do the same thing and get away with these loopholes. They use cheap leathers, cheap labor, and cheap shipping to have the bulk of the product made in a foreign country, then send it back to their home country to finish it and apply the “Made in France/Italy/USA/etc” label.
IMO – if a product is not 100% sourced, manufactured, and assembled in the home country, you shouldn’t be able to claim it’s “made” there.
Or “Assembled In _______ From USA Components”
On the bright side, Lindsey will think twice about hitting you with his purse.
Thanks for the daily LOL.
Why didn’t you say so earlier? Can’t trust CTH for anything!!!
Makes me laugh. My little granddaughter uses a beautiful Hermes scarf for dress up. This was purchased at a thrift store decades ago.
Couldn’t DJT target Hermes Purses alone with a 500% tariff? You know, just for laughs?
Oh the humanity!
Those made in China to like all the other high end overpriced name brands ?
In a desperate situation such as this, I always wait until the Hermes bags are available at the thrift store….By the way….if you have noticed, all the best-dressed, A-lister, breast-augmented, lesbo/DEI queens always look like that is where THEY shop.
My advise,
Wal-Mart
Watch… china-direct will increase prices too.
The people stupid enough to waste money on this bag are so rich they dont care
YouTube has recently featured Fox News articles about the Emotional Support Chicken. They don’t mention that this pattern is for sale on Ravelry and has been since Trump 1.0. These are a useful item to hug when reading news like this.
(sigh)
What’s the purpose of the tariffs? It is to bring manufacturing back to the USA. Once that balance is achieved, the purpose will be to replace income taxes.
Now if ONLY we can stop “ownership taxes” such as taxes on owning a car or a home.
The apoplectic elites in my neighborhood are hurling gold ingots through the windows of homes with Trump signs and shattering their Waterford crystal around the tires of cars with Trump bumper stickers, as Hordes of wealthy matrons roam the streets scratching any Tesla they can find with their diamond rings!
What is becoming known as the Hermes Horror may only be the tip of the iceberg as the denizens of Park Avenue and Martha’s Vineyard wait breathlessly for news of similar price increases on $50,000 Christian Louboutin Boots!!!
Lucky for me, my 30 year old wallet suffices in lieu of a Hermes handbag and my $3.99 dress shoes from Goodwill are holding up nicely, leaving me with enough to get one of those $5K Bill Clinton haircuts!
First i look at the purse
It’s only a tax if you buy it.
The profit markup in a $50,000 handbag is $49,500 so eating a tariff is not a big deal.
Let’s see what happens with a 25% tariff on a Toyota Camry?
Camrys sold in the U.S. have been assembled in Kentucky since the late 1980s.
$55,000, on a purse.
That is not a world I understand, or care to.
we will be hearing the gnashing of their teeth and the lamentations of their women.
There’s goes the August trip to Martha’s Vineyard.
Ha ha…needed that Sundance♡♡♡
My wife was given a Louis Vitton bag by a grateful exchange student. She saw no value in owning it so she sold it on ebay. It didn’t seem that impressive, but we deplorables just wouldn’t get it anyway.
I often, but not always, prefer the word ‘facetious’ to sarcastic. I see sarcasm as more mean and making fun of someone. ‘Facetious’ infers more humor and jocularity.
“Satirical” is good here as well.
This would have made a good Babylon Bee article.
Yeah, let me sell my hermes!! Lol if all the money in the world was in my pocket, I wouldn’t be looking for this purse!! No sweat off my back! Lol
like a rolex in that both are overpriced.
status symbols.
vanity merchants clean up on people who live to be seen with vanity symbols.
they make merchandise out of deceived people.
the pitch is below:
The Birkin is available in a rare heritage leather with unique character.
Entirely vegetable-tanned natural cowhide has an exceptionally transparent finish that gains a patina and becomes even more beautiful over time.
Smooth or grained, this leather in a natural shade emphasizes the Birkin’s clean lines and will appeal to connoisseurs.
because it veggie tanned you pay thousands extra?
appeals to conned oisseurs.😂
over time I have gained a patina but didn’t use any veggie tan stuff.😂😳
“like a rolex in that both are overpriced.”
…- Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin: – “Hold our f*@!’n beer!!…”

From experience, when the going gets tough…. drink hard and heavy 😉
Good, the increase will eliminate the embarrassing Riff Raff.
The men playing women’s sports are going to need even more mental health help now.
This is a deal breaker for me!
The corruption, the injustice, the theft, the human trafficking…
I can live with these conditions.
But, but, but .. an increase in the price of a Hermes bag! 👜
This is a bridge too far!
🌉 🌊 🌊 🌊 🏊♂️
You were almost guilty of murder with that statement. I didn’t quite die laughing.
The Bridge is over Lake Havasu ⛴️
