The response from the EU is exactly what we would expect to see from the end of the 80-year-old Marshal Plan.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyden has three big concerns with the new trade/tariff reset. I strongly suggest everyone to read the EU concerns slowly to fully absorb decades of hypocrisy now surfacing:
#1 The EU will not be able to compete for U.S. market share with 20% general tariffs and 25% auto tariffs.
#2 The EU must deploy countermeasures against the risk of losing industrial capacity and manufacturing to the United States.
And #3 The EU must defend itself against China dumping cheap products into the EU now rejected by the USA.
von der Leyen is concerned mostly about the extremely valuable U.S. consumer being leveraged by President Trump, essentially blocking exploitation from EU and Asia. The EU will not tolerate losing access to the most valuable customers in the world, Americans.
Showcasing the mindset, Ursula von der Leyen vows to take all action needed to retain U.S. customers, even if those customers no longer want her products. The USA will allow Europe access, or there will be hell to pay. I must say this is quite funny.
(Via Politico) […] Von der Leyen said Trump’s tariffs would have dire consequences for consumers and businesses that have prospered through trade with the United States since World War Two.
[…] The EU chief executive said the bloc would ready countermeasures against Trump’s latest tariff broadside, in addition to a €26 billion package responding to tariffs he has already imposed on steel and aluminum. At the same time, she vowed, Brussels will work to protect the industries most exposed.
“We are already finalizing the first package of countermeasures in response to tariffs on steel, and we are now preparing for further countermeasures to protect our interests and our businesses if negotiations fail,” von der Leyen said from Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where she was attending a summit.
“We will also be watching closely what indirect effects these tariffs could have. Because we cannot absorb global overcut capacity, nor will we accept dumping on our markets,” von der Leyen said, as the bloc braces for a flood of cheaper exports coming from China and elsewhere that will be shut out of the U.S. market. As noted by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, all of the global trade partners would do themselves a favor if they did not react emotionally with increased countervailing duties.
The currently outlined U.S. reciprocal tariffs represent a ceiling amount levied. The goal is to lower the tariffs to zero by eliminating all trade barriers. If the EU raises their baseline tariffs, the only thing that happens is the U.S. side increases at the same proportion. The higher von der Leyen goes in her tariffs, the higher the U.S. countervailing duty applies.

Noticeably absent from these tables of tariffs is how those numbers were determined.
They are one-half of what said countries now charge us in tariffs!
Genius negotiating strategy…we move less, they move more…or are shut out of our market…the black market will flourish however…
PDJT holds up the report, that is a BOOK, and that is free for the asking, that explains how the #’s were derived.
And, that 1/2 is enough, further shows just how bad they have been ripping us off, and how dependant they are on continueing to rip us off.
Yep – a 400 page book.

UNIPARTY STRIKES BACK: GOP Senator Chuck Grassley and Leftist Democrat Introduce Legislation to Upend President Trump’s Tariff AuthorityCullen Linebarger Apr. 3, 2025 11:15 am
Truth! Not /s.
That communist woman is determined to destroy what is left of Europe.
Those devils living inside her look like they are mad at the tariffs also.
….and now, a few words from Ursula Von Vampire….
Don’t get confused with how elites behave.
The elites are Fascists. Their people are Socialist/Communist. This is how the Fascists control them by giving them just enough of what they need, that they never fight back.
The old commercial…
“They make money the old fashioned way…they earn it”.
And another one, a personal fave…
One more…
I love this one too:
I have a hard time choosing between van der crazy, the rat king and herr keir as to which is the most odious.
All three. Think of it as winning the trifecta…….
GRIFTERISM is DEAD: The US Democratic Party, their corrupt politicians and devotees have “kissed the ring” of WEF globalism for decades and put America last only to fatten their banc accounts and satiate their evil. Every aspect of our quality of life and prosperity has been reduced to pay for pensions, lavish lifestyles and illegal immigration across many countries.
The EU and this subhuman piece of Godlessness can pound sand and beg for my money!
Long Live The Republic!
Next target: State and Real Estate taxes…
Or the Fed…..
Jerome Powell needs to be fired, Federal Reserve dismantled.
Considering our debt situation, does the Federal Reserve even have anything in reserve??
What are many of our Uniparty pols worried about?
Countervailing kickbacks.
As with addiction, denial only prolongs and worsens the pain for you and those around you. Ursula knows this but has to be measured with her words in this moment.
Taxing your overtaxed citizens yet further, to offset unjustifiable tariffs is a dead end that will lead to social unrest.
I give Ursula credit for speaking to the dumping threat in her markets. It shows he has business savvy, even if she is surrounded by the emerging collectivist mindset taking over Europe’s leaders, who’ve no concept of trade as they are devoted to central production planning. A tough fight here.
In the end, it will be China who is hurt most, as they will become an economic nomad, roving the Earth for a place to dump their goods.
After this initial shockwave passes, sanity will return. I see Ursula and entourage taking a trip to the White House in the very near future.
Maybe Chinas government can give it away to their citizens. Sort of like our government used to give way 5 lb blocks of cheese….
China will end up like the person sitting in a large bucket and then trying to lift the bucket by the handles. Exactly the same, but different.
Our government gave away 5 pound blocks of fake cheese. The oldsters used to trade them and pass them around trying to get rid of them. I volunteered at a retirement home and saw it all first hand.
Wasn’t it something along the lines of a mixture of Swiss and cheddar or a Velveeta clone?
Yep, I remember that cheese as a teenager — my mother would drive some of us kids to the local bowling alley when the truck of free cheese rolled into town.
.
I got in whole bunch of trouble when I complained about the government cheese and called it “Polly Uh-Oh.”
Here’s a novel idea!! China can actually implement quality standards so that people want to buy their stuff!
That is wrong think for central planning advocates.
Question: how does this affect the multi-national corporations? Is this good, bad or break even?
they prospered at the expense of US taxpayers. No wonder our taxes are so high
FAFO, Ursula.
To paraphrase George Washington…the hell with Europe. Always been problems from the French and Indian Wars. Fight it out among yourselves. Whoever is left give us a call. Collect.
Made me chuckle…”Collect.” SMH…
LOL, is that still possible???
Astonishing stupidity from the EU. Perhaps they don’t understand the meaning of the term “reciprocal tariffs”? We charge you what you charge us? How about you remove all tariffs, and we will do the same, resulting in free trade.
It burns me that after 80 years, Europe, our Congress, Media and other countries feel the largess of the USA is mandatory.
And, I have no doubt our Congress Critters don’t want to forgo the benefit of 80 years of generous kickbacks.
Truest words typed today!
It is not largesse in the real sense, as we have to borrow and go into debt to service the EU sycophant lifestyle.
Seems a very convoluted system at best..
…and the largess of the federal debt.
Good luck to the EU being competitive with their insane green energy hopium.
Aye. There’s the rub.
There goes the EU residents’ long leisurely yearly vacations, free health care, all provided by the American taxpayers and workers.
And their crowds of friendly mooslem immigrants, who comply with nothing that the palefaces ask of them.
I wonder why individually we make choices to ensure our survival, but collectively we join suicide pacts.
Great observation… Thanks.
We locked our doors but opened the borders.
POS globalist whore…
We beat them a couple of times already. Are they back for more?
CRY ME A RIVER !!
LOSER
I first typed a different noun, but some treepers here get offended by truthful slurs, l edited my post
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
“CRY ME A RIVER !!”
Ummmmm……………You’ll need to get an EPA permit for that first.
Environmental Impact Report, and all that goes with it too…………..
But first you have to file the 5-year plan for all the regulations you have to apply for/navigate . . .
But it will be too late when they get to the lying stage.
She’ll get a little bit of her own medicine.
The highest rates: Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. We finally won the war in S.E. Asia!
Those nation’s tariffs were a surprise to me…how about the rest of you?
Me as well, but you know, we are expected to help them rebuild, in perpetuity.
I noticed those rates too!
To use their airbases in Thailand, we (America) had to pave their highways!
Vietnam, though is the smarter of the bunch: they’ve already dropped their tariffs.
They cannot win and they know it. We will crush them.
Sorry moochers. America be done. It’s teets are sore. Ain’t no more sucking.
So many RAM trucks, Ford Mustangs, and Chevy Silverado trucks driving around Austria these days…
These markets have been closed to us for far too long! It’s as if the EU has been asleep for decades, dreaming peacefully and knowing Uncle Sugar was always going to just carry them financially at the expense of the US Taxpayer. DONE!
Wake up, EU! It’s time to move out of Uncle Sugar’s basement and find a job!
She is in fact saying that tariffs work for the US but no longer for them. It’s admitting they have an unfair advantage because of their tariffs on US goods. She is also saying they can’t retaliate because their situation will get worse.
She hasn’t got many choices other than to drop their tariffs.
She hasn’t got many choices. They never thought America would say no more. Despite the fact that they hate us and look down their supercilious noses at us. They figured we’d just keep accepting it because our parasite class is just as corrupt and morally bankrupt as they are.
🎯. 🤣🫡
The most important advice I received from a European friend; which served me well, was to understand and accept that every European was thinking while in a conversation with an American “Stupid American”. There were more than a few conversations where I did not even have to image what they were thinking, they would just come right out and say it. The best response strategy was to just smile and not respond in kind since there was no point. It really did help with managing my blood pressure was traveling for business in Europe. LOL.
So tired of supporting other countries socialism
Remember, Peace is the Prize, after the EU is DOA.
Yes, they couldn’t form a ‘coalition of the willing’ BEFORE this, they certainly won’t be able to, now.
And, by cutting off the EU, so that Zmans efforts are totally dependent on the U.S., Zman’s days are numbered….
Which is why Presidents Putin and Trump have continued to negotiate to establsh “normal relations” between their two countries, to include trade and development agreements.
Zman is irrelevent, he just doesn’t know it yet.
See the whole board, this isn’t just about trade, it is about Nationalist/Populists deposing the Globullusts, worldwide.
Part of me is like, “Oh POOR POOR URSULA!” with dripping and elaborate sarcasm. All that chinese crap, called products, have been dumped into the USA until our landfills are bursting with unusable and broken and useless crap. Hey Ursula, why don’t you spin up some manufacturing and make your own crap instead of relying on us Americans to buy your crap.
Sorry, crap biscuit is my phrase for the day. We have been ripped off and abused for decades! My adult kids don’t even know what it’s like to buy something and it not break almost immediately. They don’t get what a powerhouse of manufacturing the U.S. was. But, I’m still alive and I will tell them in every breath what it used to be like. Stable jobs, affordable housing, stuff that doesn’t break, etc.
I have ZERO sympathy for any other country crying right now. Zero.
Try finding someone to repair items, even if you want to. Not even charity stores will take a lot of the discards that are only a few years old. This is where tech schools are missing the boat, IMO….perhaps even in high school. Rather than a un -marketable degree, open up all kinds of repair/service classes for independent careers. Based on the lack of repair places in our upscale community, I could easily make a list of occupational opportunities . Just to name a few…upholsterers (they could make a fortune here in our community), watch and jewelry repair, drapery making AND installations, shoe repair, sharpening services for domestic and commercial, small appliance repairs, clothing alterations, etc, etc. anyone still in those businesses in our community are retirement age and have tried to find employees to teach…main problem? No math skills! You cannot do upholstery, drapes, install window coverings, hang wallpaper, etc, without basic math.
Speaking of repairs. We had a perfectly nice dining table and chairs. Two of the chairs broke. One day I saw a hardwood “repair” place and happily went home to tell hubby “we can get the chairs repaired” Yeah!!!
Few days later hubby went by to see about getting the chairs repaired. “Sir the gubmint don’t allow us to repair chairs because after we repair them you could sit on them and fall off” and the gubmint don’t want you to go falling off repaired chairs….
Needless to say I fell off the chair I was sitting on.
i take my grandson to school maybe 3 days a week and almost every day on the 10 minute ride i try to drive it into his head that if only one thing he is taught in school sticks in his brain math is it.i tell him you will use it everyday for the rest of your life,so listen and learn.
How many square feet are in a square yard? I work in a trade where I am sometimes paid by the square yard and learned long ago to remind people that the answer is 9. Many/most people will say 3.
12 feet and 9 inches is NOT 12.9 feet. It is 12.75 feet.
We all can tell tales of cashiers who cannot understand why you might hand them $6.25 when the cash register rings up, $5.25
You sound like you have experience in the interior design industry. I recognize the talents and needs.

The EU has been charging us a hefty tariff all along, how about they not charge us a tariff? Buncha azzhats, they can stuff it
Dear E.U.,
Your problems, currently, are much bigger than tariffs.
You have a criminal alien problem that is completely out of control.
You abuse your own citizens who complain about their daughters being raped by criminal aliens.
Your own people are probably sick and tired of your LACK of patriotism and your onerous taxes.
Your own people may one day have had enough.
Take this opportunity to unburden yourselves from what has been.
Signed,
An American
Thank goodness for President Trump, Tom Homan
and our LEO!👏👏 MAGA!
The globalists sent invaders into our country 🇺🇸
Same criminal behavior….just a different demographic
due to geography.
Same intent….🤷♀️
We are fighting to keep our country from being turned
into…..English as a second language 😡🤬
We recognize what has happened to Europe and our
citizens have the guts to fight back!
Europe only serves as a lesson of stupidity for the
rest of the World.
👩🏫 👩🏫
Except for the 10% tariffs, President Trump’s reciprocal are discounted according to a chart that shows the other countries’ tariffs.
https://x.com/WhiteHouse/status/1907533090559324204
And this woman is crying when it’s 20% to their 39%.
Most countries are charging us a flat 10%. Yes, these are also mostly third world countries.
Most developed countries charge us far more. They are getting charged far more – but not nearly as much as we could charge.
The step up by ~1/2 their rates, I see, is a negotiation move. It allows the other countries to see that it’s for real, and that our charge (at half their rate) will do more damage to them than their charge (at their full rate) will to us.
Some of these countries will not cooperate until smacked upside the head with a brickbat.
Sailors learned long ago to spit first in the direction they plan to urinate.
It’s not rocket science. It’s just common sense.
How about looking in the mirror, EU? Reduce your regulations (cut EU govt largess and wasteful spending) and incentivize your citizens to become more productive (tax cuts). Just Make Europe Great Again.
I don’t spit in the head
They also learned you don’t tug on Superman’s cape…

Very suitable song. Thank you bjorkdream for this song. He was one of my favorite when I was growing up.
What Trump said to Zelenskyy applies to everyone pictured above: “You talk tough but you don’t have the cards!”
Ursula moans that Trump’s tariffs “will have dire consequences for consumers and businesses that have prospered through trade with the United States,” but ignores the fact that the United States has not prospered in the least through trade with the European Union!
Ursula declares that “…nor will we accept dumping in our markets!”
The same kind of dumping in American markets that the EU has been doing for 80 years, Ursula?
And Ursula is not alone in her delusions. “Donald Trump will buckle under pressure if Europe bands together,” declares German economy minister Robert Habeck. “That is what I see, that Donald Trump will buckle under pressure…and then we will see who is the stronger one in this arm wrestle!”
Yes, Herr Habeck und Frau Von der Leyen, we will see who is stronger…but it’s not an arm wrestling match, it’s poker…
…and Trump has the winning hand!
So all the anti-Trumpers are gonna have to ante up!
These tariffs are Trump’s way of simply raising the bet.
Imagine their reaction if he actually called…..
van DER lilliputian looks like she’s having a bad hair day.
So von der Leyen was at a summit? Is she ever not at a summit? I suppose maybe Christmas Day, but when else? Every time you read an article mentioning her, she is off at some kind of a summit, where she and all the other globalists will be gathered to convince each other of how righteous they all are. Of course that does take a lot of convincing. Also, not sure why they need those group photos. They are all the same and we know who will be in attendance with or without them.
Limbaugh’s expression for what EU and Canada are now going through was “squealing like stuck pigs”. Too funny! What happened to all the bravado?
They will have to bend over and take it.
An important non-monetary tariff Trump should consider is a REQUIREMENT that all websites and sales information (eg sticker at the dealership) specify the country of origin of the product.
Trump needs to have the government award some sort of A+ “Made in USA” rating for products that are 100% manufactured and assembled in USA including the raw materials. Then scale it A, B+, B, C+, C, F.
Websites like Amazon either conceal it or fail to disclose altogether. Made in USA grades should be like the UL stamp or a BBB rating.
American consumers have a right to know. Those who don’t care can ignore it.
Pretty tough in some cases. Some parts are made in country A, shipped to country B for partial assembly, then shipped to country C for final assembly packaging and distribution. Things like lawn tractors have different companies that supply engine, transmission, wheels, and electronics, all shipped somewhere to be assembled with a few local parts.
I would think a statement like mine or your rating would help, but sometimes there is no country of origin. Some Hyundai cars are designed and built in America but parent country is S Korea.
Totally agree, there are some nuances. I don’t mind if the company is ROK owned if most of the labor and materials to make the cars are on US soil. “This Hyundai made with pride in Montgomery, Alabama U S A.” That’s a huge plant, probably an A for any car that rolls off there. If their suppliers at in the USA, A+.
Even artists on Etsy would need to think about their suppliers. Sure, they painted the picture, but are the paints, canvas, and frames US made?
That doesn’t make a B or a B+ bad. It just means that over time they’ll buy their components from the US or just disclose that the frame is made in China, but the art itself is American made.
There’s always way.
Look at the photo closely. Notice the third man from the left. The EU wanted him, and now they have him—his baggage, his financial demands, and his lying backchat. Good luck with Ukraine.
I do see the humor.
Ursula Fond of Lying who gave the speech
about Russia economy being in….Tatters…I tell you-Tatters!
She and the others forced other EU countries to
send their military stockpiles and defense systems
to Ukraine…and no true ability to manufacture
more….
Ursula Von der Crazy…the unelected leader by the
citizens of the EU countries, who strong armed
elected EU leaders almost to the edge of bankruptcy
in her ambition to support Ukraine….in her zealous
quest to weaken or destroy Russia on behalf of the
globalists…..
And now that tariffs have been placed on EU…
it just speeds up the timeframe for the economic
crash that does seem inevitable.💁♀️
She is now reaping what she sowed…unfortunately, it
will be the people of Europe who will be suffering
the consequences…they didn’t elect her.
EU is in Tatters……and she is ultimately the one
that blame should/will be placed on. Good 👏
Karma….👠👠
Well, the EU is “technically” worse than tatters, because if the EU is losing to an economy that is in tatters then itself must be doing worse than tatters
And if the EU military is losing to a bunch of Russian losers, what does that make the EU?
Why do you think we should ‘remain gracious’ after the corruption of all countries (especially Chy-na) is exposed?
All the EU has to do is stop pretending the war in Ukraine is real with the fake war propaganda and Im sure an exemption can be considered.
No single country, nor ‘coalition of the willing’ can win a trade war with the U.S.,nor drag out the fight to a stalemate, either.
This is because of American Exceptionalism, that we have a large, vibrant middle class, that buys more STUFF, by far, than any other country, making us THE market everyone wants to sell into.
And, because we don’t NEED to purchase from anyone else.
Hence, their raising their tariffs, “in responce” to us, doesn’t hurt us at all, it only hurts them.
And the EU is squealing, because without the enormous trade imbalance, and being able to rely on the U.S. for defense, there is no way the generous social programs they have used to buy their citisens votes, can be maintained.
When they are forced to cut those programs, “austerity measures” will not be well recieved by their citisens,…and regime change will be the inevitable result.
A “color revolution” and subsequent regime change, without spending billions thru USAID, imagine that!
And, a National/Populist Gov. installed, that will undertake remigration and tight immigration controls, protection of human rights, etc. will get very favorable trade agreement with the U.S.
Those countries that don’t, won’t.
Which means “domino theory” once one country breaks with the EU, its katy bar the door.
Be careful about saying we do not need to purchase from anyone else. That is the goal, not the current reality. We make very few medicinal drugs in the U.S. now because of all the FDA regulations. The same is true for a lot of other critical components. There is still the small matter of re-industrializing manufacturing in the U.S. My employer had to go to the Philipines the get enough welders to complete one of the biggest ethylene crackers on the gulf coast on time since there were 4 being built by other competitors and only the first 3 completed would get a return on their investment.
Not only do we need manufacturing capacity, but also the trained workforce. The USA does not hold all the ACE cards yet.
Too late, chere Ursula. What you now propose, you should have enacted years – decades – ago.
Ya know, these “Trump tariff’s” are as much or more targeting US businesses and Corporations, as much as the foreign products. Americans WILL “buy American” if they can. The won’t may 1000% MORE for equal and equivalent products, but we generally don’t compare products, and buy foreign for a 10 cent discount.
Particularly so, since in every case where China has captured a US manufacturing market, the quality of products they sell (1) go to crap, and (2) are all made by the same factory or entity, no matter how many labels the product is sold under. One easy example: Try to buy replacement window screens with nylon or metal frame corners of the same original quality. The original was likely made 10+ years ago, and is solidly made. The Chinese copy is thin, fragile, and breaks before you can build the screen. Another is “Logitech” products, one called a “marble track ball”. I picked up three of these USED back about y2000 when my kids were in junior high school. They pounded on these things. I used them in my corporate business. Indestructible, for about 20 years. The Chinese version uses plastic switches instead of metal for the switch contact points. They last six months, tops, even with light use. There are youtube videos out there explaining how to buy the cheap (and better quality) replacements, to take the things apart and solder in the replacements. Simple part. The Chinese are saving pennies at most, but it ruins the product. Moreover, a product that used to be plentiful and available at $20 or $30, is not $200 if you can find one. 30 year old original’s, sell for 5x the original price, due to demand.
No matter what the product is, the Chinese capture and monopolize the market for it through predatory mercantilism, corner the market, make the same product “cheap” under the original brand name (frequently purchased from the new bankrupt American companies), and they feed the market the crap that the Chinese dictate. Marxist-Socialism at it’s best. SOME Chinese CCP oligarchs get rich, all of their downstream cadres get paid, the Chinese masses live at starvation levels, and the world no longer has the products it wants and pays for.
Von der Leyen be laying down for Satan as one of his concubines. Let’s ignore the b*tch.
haha!
Enjoy your poorly made Chinese crap, Ursula.
You deserve it!
#1 The EU will not be able to compete for U.S. market share with 20% general tariffs and 25% auto tariffs.
“Well now ain’t that too bad.”
#2 The EU must deploy countermeasures against the risk of losing industrial capacity and manufacturing to the United States.
“Show us what you got.”
And #3 The EU must defend itself against China dumping cheap products into the EU now rejected by the USA.
“How sad for you.”
😛 😛 😛
