The information from Secretary of State Marco Rubio looks good. During his flight to Saudi Arabia, Secretary Rubio answered a few questions about the U.S. delegation expectations of the meeting with Ukraine officials.
Rubio notes the aforementioned “minerals deal” is not an important part of the larger objective. Secretary Rubio says that finding out if Ukraine’s desire for peace with Russia is true, in good faith or not, is the key objective. A pragmatic Rubio also notes that Ukraine is likely going to have to give up lost territory to achieve peace.

“Both sides need to come to an understanding,” he said. “The Russians can’t conquer all of Ukraine, and obviously it will be very difficult for Ukraine, in any reasonable time period, to sort of force the Russians back all the way to where they were in 2014. So the only solution to this war is diplomacy and getting them to a table where that’s possible.
“Then we’ll have to determine how far they are from the Russian position, which we don’t know yet either. And then once you understand where both sides truly are, it gives you a sense of how big the divide is and how hard it’s going to be,” Rubio explained. “I’m hoping it’ll be a positive interaction along those lines.” (more)
Rubio also seems to indicate that if the U.S delegation senses this is all just lies and disinformation from the Ukraine side, then President Trump’s approach to providing financial support will moderate accordingly. “The pause in aid broadly is something I hope we can resolve,” Rubio said. “I think what happens tomorrow will be key to that.”
Secretary Marco Rubio continues to surprise us in the way he has totally stopped pretending about geopolitical matters. There is no sunlight between the continually expressed and defined positions of Marco Rubio and the identical positions, perspectives and policies expressed by President Trump.
This is quite a remarkable change in Rubio’s political persona. Is it real?

Rubio‘s complicity while on the Senate Intel Committee is absolutely unforgivable in my eyes. That said, his main motivation for playing ball currently is most certainly the hope of a future presidential run.
Nothing wrong with that strategy, as Rubio would be running to continue Trump’s policies.
The strategy is one of self-preservation, which momentarily happens to favor the current administration. One should question whether the happenstance overlapping of agendas is synonymous with true compatibility in terms of policy. The true test would come were Rubio to be in higher office, but that is not something I am willing to wait out.
Seems odd that as soon as Rubio finalized the USAID contract cuts (about 5k contracts cut, about 1k remaining active) the protests and vandalism started up again. Almost like the leftists suddenly got their cash flow restored. Perhaps the two things are unrelated. Perhaps they’re not.

I do not like FEMA being dismantled though and it given to the states. My area is still reeling from massive flooding. If that money comes to the state, here is what the state does. Our county WAS the main revenue source for WVA…Coal….big time $$$… Our revenue dollars were sent to the Northern part of the state to build up those BIG cities. Our little county still has pot holes the size of a car, we never GOT anything from the state for the revenue we gave them!!!

I saw that scowl and the look in his eyes as realizing Zelensky played him in order to get into the Oval office to try and embarrass the President of the United States and that look on Sec. Rubio’s face was one of quiet rage at having used him for ulterior motives.

Interesting – I was just thinking of the parallels between Sec of State Rubio, and Nikki Haley as UN Ambassador! I was really impressed with Haley in that role, and thought she might go far politically. She was a good foot soldier and spokesperson for President Trump in that position on the world stage, especially in speaking out in the UN den of vipers about Israel and the Middle East.
However, it surprised me a bit to see her transform after she resigned and was on her own. I think in the same way it remains to be seen what will happen with Rubio. So far, I am pleasantly surprised that he seems to be on the same page as President Trump and loyal in representing him on the world stage (similar to Haley.) Time will tell what his true colors are when he is on his own.
I bet there’s a lot of Ukranians that wish they had never heard of Nuland at this point.
After finding out that Rubio voted for this, the little trust I had in him is diminishing rapidly.

I hope last night’s attacks show that the US should not be supporting Ukraine because they constantly are trying to exacerbate the conflict aimed at civilians. The attack UAV’s on Kursk Nuclear Power Plant were aimed at a potentially devastating effect on a large swath of civilians.

Optimistically, both Rubio and Vance are smart enough to have re-examined prior views and decided to walk more humbly in the world.
Comparing Rubio to the lackluster and establishment protecting Bondi and ACB, he is doing a great job.
Like all poiticians, Rubio is an opportunist with the added feature of presidential aspirations. There’s no chance he could win a presidential election without MAGA support, and the political winds are blowing strongly in favor of MAGA right now. His IC handlers also recognize this, so they’ve apparently allowed him to slip his leash for the time being. His “descendent of Cuban communist refugees” doesn’t play as well on the national stage as it does in Florida, so he needs some foreign policy chops.
Don’t be surprised in 2027 when he takes whatever chops he has established as SoS, combines them with his position in the IC, and emerges as the opposition to Vance ’28. Drawing from both sides of the GOP spectrum might actually work in Rubio’s favor against Vance, because Vance won’t be drawing support from the RINO well.
I doubt it will work, but thus far Rubio is making all the right noises so I’m happy with him.
