I might be in the minority but I enjoy watching MAGA do its thing to save America and I hope it succeeds. It is a truly historic occurrence on the political level. A similar movement should occur in Canada after the pending election. Conservative leader Poilievre has campaigned on ending the $Billion taxpayer subsidy to the pro Trudeau/Freeland CBC and other policies similar to MAGA.
But P Trump’s tariffs have now made it difficult for Canadian politicians to promote anything that seems similar to him.
While I enjoy watching MAGA in action, I am a Canadian that owes this country my life. I was raised in a big city but as kids and teens, we could go anywhere without supervision. We had real freedom and friendly family neighbors. (Serial child killer Clifford Olson changed that in the 80’s and parents began fearing for their kids). I caught a serious bout of pneumonia when I was in Grade 1 but the medical staff saved me after a week in hospital. I attended excellent public schools and had many unforgettable and great teachers. I had a brief and difficult year finding a job after high school but then the economy took off and a labor shortage was the norm for many years.
I never suffered an unemployment period after that and increasing my post secondary education and job skills to ensure employment never ended. My own family experiences have been similar as a parent and besides good paying jobs the holidaying in the beautiful scenery of Western Canada was like living in paradise. A few trips to the USA were also fabulous
I owe Canada so much it would take a lengthy book to explain it. So, I will support all rational and reasonable attempts to fight the Trump tariffs and anything else that comes our way but hopefully with a new rational Conservative leader as PM. I know, I’m on the weak side of this battle compared to the USA behemoth but it won’t impede me. Trump can severely harm our economy but Canada can make it difficult and drag out some hardships in return before that happens.
The railway and the Delta super port that ships mega tonnes of thermal coal through B.C. from the USA to China could impose a large carbon tax on all U.S. shipments. All of the western ports in the USA refused to allow this coal to pass through their facilities because of “climate change.” There are other similar tactics in other sectors that will likely cost the GOP swing voters in the next election depending on how much this idiocy drags on.
Fighting a tariff war rather than renegotiating fair alternatives is bloody madness IMO. I wanted Team Canada to win and they did. The gloating before the ending was not wise or mature. I just hope MAGA doesn’t get too far ahead of itself with over confidence etc. The USA sorely needs it to succeed.

Jazz–Arlan didn’t mention the tariffs Canada already imposes. I tried to find a list of the tariffs but got stuff about the dust up between our & their tariff price talk but couldn’t find any numbers. I did see that the US is on the short end, meaning Canada has higher tariffs.
Regarding tariffs on Canada, I agree about the drug that killed G Floyd, fentanyl & biden’s illegals being more the issue.
Everyone seems to forget that Trump is trying to get fair trade going. The USA has had the short end to the tariff stick with everyone we trade with for decades. We can’t afford that now.

Fentanyl has not been mentioned by P Trump lately because efforts have stepped up and compared to Mexico, the amount was a drop in a big bucket. The raid on that big lab was proof. In the 3 months -Oct thru Dec 2024 of the 4,537 pounds of fentanyl seized at the US border, only 10 pounds was seized at the Canadian border. 1. Chrystia Freeland Unleashed
At the debate, Freeland said,”Trump is unleashed and empowered. As your prime minister, I will be too.”
2. Mark Carney insanely promised to give Quebec veto power on pipeline projects so none will be built.
3. Not to be outdone by Carney, Frank Baylis promised to cancel the border measures recently put in place to block drugs and illegal immigration.
4. To prove she is even more dangerous than the others, Karina Gould told Quebecers that she’d bring in a Digital Currency plus a Universal Basic Income and expand the federal bureaucracy.
She is also crying about misinformation and disinformation, meaning a new censorship push.
Gould opposed any shift of the Liberals toward sanity, demanding they hold on to Liberal values, meaning unpopular woke stuff.
5. In Quebec, Freeland doubled down on crazy, saying she’d expand defense spending to 2% by increasing the pay of the military, not by buying any new weapons.
6. The candidates also supported the Liberal record with Freeland saying it is dangerous to criticize the things Justin Trudeau has done.
7. The Liberals have also called for doubling the funding of the state media.
Don’t forget, these three other candidates will get top cabinet posts in a Carney government to bring these items in.
9. Mark Carney who is pitching himself as the crisis, negotiation and economic expert will certainly have a crisis to deal with. That would be the national crisis that the Liberals plan to create with these lunatic policies.
