Canada has little more in common with the United States than a mostly shared language and border. We don’t want Canada any more than they want to be part of the United States. Canada has vast natural resources, and you can be sure that there are those nations out there looking to take those resources by force if necessary. The tariffs placed by PDJT of Canadian goods will look very cheap if some other countries decide to collect Canada’s resources by force or the threat of force. British Columbia long maintained it would go as an independent country if Canada broke up…yeah, well, good luck. Newfoundland/Labrador perhaps would want to join the US…don’t know much about the attitudes in the rest of the Maritimes. That leaves Ontario and Quebec — two absolute nightmares — along with the Arctic territories: Yukon (Parker Schnabel Land), NWT and Nunavut.

I have only listened to the short clip above, so I don’t know the whole context, but I think the point Freeland was trying to make about Canada allying with France and the UK on account of their nukes was that Canada could be under their “nuclear umbrella” and so protected from nuclear-armed states such as Russia (or North Korea), and that therefore Canada doesn’t need the American nuclear umbrella for their own safety.
Globalist pearl-clutching NATO deadbeats in Germany are saying the same thing, that France and the UK could protect them if the US removes its umbrella (“Schutzschirm”).
But now that I have listened again I’m not so sure, since she does refer to the U.S. as “a threat” at the end; but I don’t think that she pictures the U.S. as the only nuclear-armed state threatening Canada, so their new pact would not be aimed exclusively at us–that’s some consolation, I suppose.
