Citing the “uncooperative” nature of the USAID leadership acting as an independent entity, Secretary Rubio announced he is now Acting Director of USAID with the intention of removing all elements who operate against the direct U.S. interests he outlined. WASHINGTON, Feb 2 (Reuters) – The Trump administration over the weekend put on administrative leave dozens more staff at U.S. Agency for International Development, three sources familiar with the move said, as it moves to abolish the agency’s independence and bring it under the control of the State Department.
Nearly 30 career staff in the agency’s Legislative and Public Affairs bureau lost access overnight to their emails, the sources said, bringing the total number of senior USAID career staff who have been put on leave over the past week close to 100.
Two senior officials overseeing the agency’s security operations were also put on administrative leave after refusing to hand over classified documents to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency officials, one of the sources said.
Matt Hopson, who was appointed as chief of staff by the Trump administration, has resigned, five sources familiar with the matter said. A congressional source said his resignation followed the security personnel being put on leave. USAID did not respond to a request about Hopson.
The purge follows more than a week of mayhem inside USAID, Washington’s primary agency funding billions of dollars’ worth of life-saving aid globally. President Donald Trump ordered a freeze on almost all U.S. foreign aid, saying his administration will review spending to ensure money is distributed in line with his “America First” foreign policy.

this resonates with me. I went to three different highschools. My father had the responsibility to literally move me around so I could get a DECENT EDUCATION. But even then, I would come home and he would already have some of the curriculum and he would mark up what chapters or subject I should pay attention to and what to ignore. I’ll never forget the look on my Mom’s face when he said: I don’t care what they grade you, I want you to ace these section. Leave the rest up to me.

I think the WH is going back to the original legislation to check for what was specifically authorized in 1977. Over the decades there has been so much “bureaucratic creep” that one might forget what the original statute actually said.
Once that is clear, then follow it to the letter, and eliminate anything that was not be directed authorized by the law.
Dept. of Ed. should be eliminated as it is not a Constitutionally prescribed function of our Federal Government. Let the states do what they want.

Rubio make have been a bigish fish in the senate (“small “s”), but he has been elevated to become a Big one by his now Boss. I am sure he never considered he would be selected for such a glorious position. And all because of the beneficence of the man who once ridiculed him.

At this point he will be aware he is being tested and that an immense amount of trust has been given to him….just like the first time a father hands the keys to the family auto to his newly qualified driver teenage son. What a humiliation it would be for him to step off the plotted course to pursue his or someone else’s agenda, to be fired and cast into…where?
His senate seat is gone. His whole career has been in government. I believe he will not jeopardize his position as Secretary of State by betraying President Trump’s elevating him to such a lofty position (no matter the reasons for President Trump’s choosing of a man he knows has a direct line to the DC IC silo).
Again, don’t know what was spoken between the two men, but perhaps Rubio has seen the light. Only a guess. Stranger things have happened.

Agreed. I would also like to point out that Rubio, as DJT’s new hatchet man, is losing his swamp approval rating. I don’t think he can go back to his old buddies without having to watch his back. I think DJT has brought Rubio to heel very effectively and Rubio must behave, or he loses the protection he currently has.
