According to the New York Times, President Trump has removed the security detail from Mike Pompeo and Brian Hook, in addition to previous removals for John Bolton. The protective detail came from the U.S. State Dept under the Diplomatic Security Service.
NYT – President Trump revoked security protection for his former secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, and a former top aide, Brian Hook, despite warnings from the Biden administration that both men faced ongoing threats from Iran because of actions they took on Mr. Trump’s behalf, four people with knowledge of the matter said on Thursday.
Mr. Pompeo and Mr. Hook had been part of an aggressive posture against Iran during the first Trump presidency, most notably the drone strike that killed the powerful Iranian general Qassim Suleimani in early 2020.
Mr. Trump also remains under threat because of that action, and his advisers have regularly stressed the seriousness of the situation in the years between his two terms in office.
Mr. Pompeo and Mr. Hook had their security details, which were believed to be provided by the State Department, pulled on Tuesday, one of the people briefed on the matter said. That is when our people came in contact with a new kind of IED that Soleimani’s people knew how to put together. Whether the primary target were ISIS/Al Qaeda fighters or Sunni Clan fighters or out troops is a matter of question. Just by their being more active trying to suppress the civil war, our troops were placed in harm’s way. One way the civil war was eventually halted was through the process of BUILDING WALLS between Shia and Sunni neighborhoods and controlling the “ports of entry” to keep weapons and IEDs out of both neighborhoods.
We had someone inside Soleimani’s organization. He would send his people into Iraq, many times through the southern, British sector. Those people got scooped up, including a general. You seem to have forgotten Pompeo’s role in Sundance’s article as an Anti-Trumper and the impetus for the Soleimani assassination.
Soldiers can be diplomats, too. Eisenhower is an example, but Ike did not have an official diplomatic portfolio from his government. We had opportunities when he was operating strictly as a soldier in Iraq and Syria to do it, but we did not. Doing it when he was on a diplomatic mission doesn’t comport with maintaining the integrity and safety of our own diplomats and those of our allies to kill the man at that point in time.
Calling soleimani a diplomat is to play the game of pretending. Trump effectively refused that game in one effective brilliant act which was fully understood in Tehran. Biden brought pretending back in order to give Iran billions again and profit.
You don’t understand how diplomacy works. Trump sent a guy with no diplomatic experience to represent him in the negotiations for hostages. If the President accepts it, and he did, the guy was part of a diplomatic mission and should be under that kind of protection.

The internet has been full of these stories about him since the last Trump administration but it is now going to hit the mainstream and the low information voters who watch FOX.
When the CIA or the FBI very publicly tell Pres. Trump that if he removes Pompeo’s SS protection something bad could happen to Pompeo, they can make it happen. Just think of the headlines: “PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS BLOOD ON HIS HANDS!!! “HE WAS WARNED POMPEO WAS IN DANGER!!!”
The CIA and the FBI can make it happen and then blame the Iranians.
I suspect this may be President Trump applying some leverage before he offers Pompeo a deal.

Pompeo would know it’s not actually Iran who would do the deed. They know Trump considers him worthless by removing the detail.

I disagree completely with this logic. Firstly, Pompeo without clearance and security is useless, Secondly, even if Pompeo were an “asset”, the propaganda value of blaming Trump if something were to happen to Pompeo is much much greater than whatever Pompeo’s value is as an asset.

If you intend to “remove diplomatic security” from any person, you should also make it perfectly clear that this person is not authorized to conduct any further “diplomatic” activities, and should just stay home. I think that Trump should give that directive.

This is huge because it forces Pompeo to be very very careful and stay out of the public eye.
It also sounds like a subtle jab at the CIA due to the assassination attempt on Trump. It’s almost like he’s saying “I’m going to give you a taste of what that was like.”
