According to recent media reports, “as of Saturday morning, the Palisades fire, at 21,596 acres, was 11% contained and the Eaton fire, at 14,117 acres, was 15% contained, according to Cal Fire.” The fire outlook for Saturday is back at the “Critical” level for much of southern California as dry, gusty winds fan the flames. Winds are expected to pick up later Saturday into the night, raising the fire danger yet again.
Approximately 7,000 structures have been destroyed in the Eaton Fire, authorities said at a press conference today. The Palisades Fire has destroyed more than 5,000 structures, according to an early morning update from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
CALIFORNIA – The Palisades and Eaton wildfires have killed at least 11 people and destroyed some 12,000 structures as of Friday. Evacuation orders have been lifted in some areas as firefighters make progress on the Kenneth, Hurst and Lidia fires.
The exact causes of the fires remain under investigation, but they were fueled by extreme gusts from the Santa Ana winds. Winds Forecasters warn they could pick back up later this weekend.
Officials have identified the origin of the Palisades blaze fire behind a home on Piedra Morada Drive, which sits above a densely wooded arroyo. (more)

Here in Texas, our annual property taxes adjust every year according to the value of our property (almost never decreases). I’ve heard that California Property Taxes are established at the time of the home sale set at the t time of sale & do not adjust annually.
Was this a purposeful land grab of those who’ve inherited or lived in their house for decades? Annnual property taxes on a $2 million house is vastly different from one valued at $60k. Many will sell, their land and move out. Those who rebuild will pay the higher (current) rate.
Seems like an opportunity to re-establish the tax base to a much higher level.
Also I have read it will be very difficult to build homes because of all the rules from the tree huggers.
Fire chief said $17 million was taken from her budget. This week I also read that last year Newsome took $100 million from the fire budget and just weeks ago the mayor took another $50 million. Not sure who is telling the truth. But never fear. Joetato will cover ALL of it and that’s no joke! Never mind the people in NC and other states sleeping in tents or borrowed trailers or small homes built by the Amish.

Not unless you want the “enemy” inside the gates….There is a reason they call it the “Left Coast”…with the possible exception of Orange County, I expect that 60% percent of the problem is the counties that vote 60%+ with the left…I’m sure you can name the counties…start at the mexican border and end at the oregon border and touch the ocean on their western flank…I did appreciate you bothered to separate Rural LA county from LA county….may as well use natural geography and the Angeles National forest as the boundary there…
BTW…the same problem exists in Oregon and Washington…East vs west of the Cascades and Costal Oregon…

Newsome was floated as a possible replacement for Old Joe last year, and was widely regarded as a strong front runner for the 2028 Democratic nomination. Not any more. The entire world can tune in each night and watch Newsome’s political career go up in flames. Stick a fork in him. He’s done.
