The Senate Armed Services Committee follows a tradition of the Chair and Vice-Chair reviewing the FBI report on Defense Secretary nominations, and then bringing the nomination to a full committee hearing and vote.
However, in an unprecedented move being discussed the Chairman Jack Reed, of Rhode Island, and the ranking member from Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, are debating releasing the FBI report on Pete Hegseth to the full committee, thereby positioning the FBI report to be leaked to media.
Keep in mind, this is an “FBI investigative report,” and we already know the history of how the FBI uses their investigative authorities to influence, change and manipulate political outcomes. If we drop the pretending, the FBI is a weaponized agency of DC government with the expressed intent to protect the interests of DC.
The only reason to widely distribute the FBI background investigation of Hegseth is so that someone can leak it to media.
WASHINGTON DC – At least a dozen senators are pushing to see the FBI’s background check on Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump’s embattled pick for Pentagon chief — a rare move for the committee that oversees his confirmation and a sign the former Fox News host still faces hurdles in the Senate.
Unlike some other committees, the Senate Armed Services usually limits access to these types of background checks to its two lead senators. But pressure is building from both Democrats and Republicans to provide more lawmakers with the ongoing report, whose contents could determine whether Hegseth makes it to the Pentagon.

The push follows allegations of sexual assault against Hegseth, as well as alcohol abuse and mismanagement during his tenure at two veterans groups. He denies the allegations, and Trump’s allies have continued to drum up support for the TV personality. No Republicans have come out against him.

The message to the Senate probably needs to be something along the lines of, “If you were worried about my plans for the FBI before, you should be very worried now. The FBI is corrupt, and you need to decide if you want to be caught up in the investigation that follows.”
Yes-The creators of the report should be notified that it is highly unusual for a report of this type to be released and there could be an investigation by the DOJ and prosecution if it is found to be fraudulent in any way.

I would dispute that Maine has no major industrial base or important military assets. It is easy to overlook it.
Just one example is Bath Iron Works which is only one of two shipyards that build destroyers for the U.S. Navy.
There is a notable military unit in Bangor, The 101st Air Refueling Wing. Often the ones called for refueling missions across the Atlantic.

When the prosecutor tole the Senate GOP caucus that the evidence of the alleged assault was so flimsy she’d have declined prosecution, that was enough for Collins to support Kavanaugh.

well, in hindsight, you might consider that those books and movies that highlighted fbi as heros were propaganda efforts for manipulation of public opinion. you cannot work for government and not be compromised to some degree unless your income and livelihood are entirely independent.
Obviously the purpose of the books and movies is to manipulate public opinion. That’s the point of my post.
I have worked for government and know how one’s livelihood can be compromised. If you are in that situation, at some point you need to make a choice. You either find a way to contribute to what you value or stay contributing to what you don’t value. For example, I would not be willing to keep a job where I had to lie and cheat and attack people whose politics differ from mine.
What helps is to realize that few things in life are either or choices. You can often find ways to make situations serve your needs. But to do that you need to take responsibility for your choices and not put the onus on “others” by believing you are “compromised to some degree unless your income and livelihood are entirely independent.” An attitude like that helps explain how as a country we the people allowed this mess to perpetuate.

I believe you are right. President Trump has said on his Truth Social that regardless of rumor, innuendo or outright attack on Pete Hegseth, he would not withdraw his nomination. And President Trump knows full well how corrupt the FBI is.

I think POTUS gets ahead of this by stating unequivocally that the FBI is about to undergo massive structural reforms because they conduct sham investigations to destroy the FBI and Government Party’s enemies.
IOW, just come right out and state that he assumes – just like the fraud prosecutions of himself – that the FBI report is most likely fraudulent. And its authors will be investigated, as will anyone who leaks it to the public.
All that said, why Trump’s transition team didn’t already know about this stuff and have a good strategy to deal with it, is a disgrace. Yes, allegations are just that, and useful mainly as toilet paper. But you still need to be prepared for it.

I could listen to RFK, Jr. for an hour or more talking about the vaccines, autism, dyes in food, etc. – it was difficult a few years ago hearing him speak in his impaired voice but the knowledge is imparted and on one of the recent occasions during the campaign, it was as if it was Pentecost and I could understand him as clearly as anything. I do think that dear God will bless this effort to rescue our children from the grasp of those who would destroy them, rob them of their God-given health and all their potential.
