The phrase “deep state” has become an epithet. It’s an abusive phrase meant to disparage someone into submission. Keeping the Public in the Dark: How Federal and State Laws and Policies Prevent Meaningful Disclosure About Child Maltreatment Fatalities and Near Fatalities

At least 1,800 children die from abuse and neglect every year, and the total is probably considerably greater. Between a third and a half of these deaths may involve families that were already known to Child Protective Services through previous reports of maltreatment. In addition, an unknown number of children are severely injured due to maltreatment every year.
Legislators, advocates, and the public need timely information about the circumstances leading to these events so they can identify policy and practice changes necessary to protect children.Federal law requires every state to have a policy that provides for publicly disclosing findings or information about child fatalities or near fatalities resulting from child abuse or neglect. However, the federal requirement is worded vaguely and has never been interpreted in regulations.
For Lives Cut Short, I reviewed state disclosure laws and policies for child maltreatment fatalities and near fatalities to describe the disclosure policy landscape as of 2024. I found that most states have laws or policies providing for the release of information on child fatalities and near fatalities due to maltreatment, but some of these are vaguely worded, and some have provisions that hinder public access to critical information about these tragic events.
Twelve states allow but do not require the release of information about these incidents. Only 16 states have laws or policies that require releasing some information without request, and some of them release only minimal information.
Congress should change federal law to clarify current language and establish parameters for states in interpreting the law. Absent change at the federal level, states should amend their own policies to clarify terms and eliminate exceptions that violate the goal of transparency, require prompt notifications of maltreatment fatalities and near fatalities reported to agencies, and make comprehensive information available on request for all such cases.

I have had to represent numerous families who were harmed — BOTH ways — by not infrequently dingbat stupid intrusive child protective services. They both miss harm and create misery with false allegations.
Be all this as it may, it’s a state issue.
Well-meaning but very misguided advocacy for stuff like this is how we have become overburdened with nonsense regulations, unnecessary bureaucray, “policies” and “practices” that accomplish nothing but administrivia to create jobs, and organizations that seek mostly to perpetuate their “causes” and careers and funding.

I have a Meidcare supplement and pay out of pocket for a primary care MD who does not accept insurance. She tells me if I need a specialist or a test and I get it. Medicare and Supplement reimburse me.

These military colleges were designed to develop war fighter leadership, NOT administrative, clerical, legal, logistics, pliots, and medical field officer fields. Any college is fine to recruit from for those fields.
Until 2015, women were not even allowed into combat branches / MOS. Obama did that, to intentionally degrade and demoralize our military members.
Result: overwhelming majority of women seeking those roles can’t even pass the courses. Waste of taxpayer money.
Those few who do, degrade the effectiveness of the units. They simply cannot keep up physically with the men and it brings down the effectiveness of the entire unit, making it extremely vulnerable. Personally been there, seen that, done that.
Infantry, armor, artillery, reconnaissance and special ops were men only for a reason that was and is time tested. Nothing will ever change that.
Every time a woman is allowed into one of these training programs, it removes and other wise capable and qualified male from being useful to our national defense. And wastes even more taxpayer money.

In the military academy situations, the women had nothing of their own to use instead.

PS — as much as I would have enjoyed seeing Gaetz in action, it really WAS a head scratcher of a nomination, given how Gaetz had pissed off so many Republicans….AND given that he still had an ethics probe active — no matter how unprovable the charges.

Yes, but in his resignation, he indicated that he did not intend to serve next term. I suppose he could try to retract that part.

I just commented on the bottom of last page that even if you’re a single guy, you must be careful what you do in your free time. I doubt he’s doing anything illegal, but maybe not 100% “ethical”.
There must be something there otherwise he wouldn’t have withdrawn his nomination. All speculation and we’ll probably never know.

Let’s hope you are right. Personally, PDJT needs Paxton in Texas. The state is just too damn important on many fronts for the MAGA movement. He’s one of few republican AGs that steps up to fight. (Whereas my AG in VA, not so much.)

This would put Gaetz up close and personal with Adam Schiff once again.
My prediction: Since Bob Casey of PA is about to lose to McCormick in the recount, Adam Schiff will fill the Dem’s newly vacated seat on the SSCI.
If DeSantis appoints Gaetz to the senate. Pressure should be applied to Thune to put Gaetz onto the SSCI. He wouldn’t get Rubio’s seat as chairman, but he would be there to police Adam Schiff.
This is beginning to feel like Trump’s appointment of Nikki Haley to make way for McMasters.
If this has been worked out, the senate if a more important place for Gaetz than DOJ.
Once the GOP took over the House, Schiff was kicked off Intelligence. I hope Thune refuses to let Schiff sit on SSCI, but I doubt Thune has that much backbone.

I just watched a video going over some of the info. Venmo and an actual check written by Gaetz for $750 to Cash for tuition reimbursement in the memo. A lot of 200, 300, 400 dollar Venmo payments with interesting memos.
All I can say is it’s best to use actual cash money. Not write a check to Cash for “tuition reimbursement”. He sunk his own battleship. Hate to say it, but they don’t look good. Was it 100% paying for sex, I don’t know but the argument can be made. Not one I think President Trump needs to face while trying to implement a “radical” (according to those who hate freedom) agenda.
I think there would’ve always been a cloud over Gaetz if he got confirmed. You know these issues would’ve been aired at the confirmation hearing. There was no electronic receipts or copies of questionable checks written to cash in the Beach Friends make believe allegations. These allegations may be false, Gaetz may have been just helping these young women out and not directly an exchange for extracurricular activities but they are there to be scrutinized. Gaetz did it to himself.
Any young person today needs to think about the permanency of digital transactions. It can haunt you later. Best to make good decisions and not spend every waking hour pursuing extracurricular activities. I had a roommate who had 2 or 3 girlfriends at a time. Our other roommate and I stopped answering the phone or door because we didn’t know what lie was told to who. Great guy, would do anything for him but he was addicted to extracurricular activities and caused a lot of unnecessary stress for him – keeping all those stories straight was tough.
I’m sure Gaetz as a single guy has access to a lot of people who may or may not have the best intentions. Unfortunately, you need to be smarter. We all know the “deep state” blackmails people to fall in line, but they are the only ones who could get themselves in a position to be blackmailed.
