So the progressive DA who brought the Laken Riley murder case is not seeking the death penalty because of “collateral consequences to undocumented defendants” which is another way of saying he’s actually receiving preferential treatment by the system BECAUSE he’s in the country illegally.

The DA could not pursue the death penalty as a matter of law once the defendant asked for a bench trial.
Only jury trials can result in the application of the death penalty. A judge cannot sentence the death penalty without the vote of a jury, of which there was none in this case.
