In response to previous discussion about this, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he had ‘clear eyes’ on what long-range missile deployment inside Ukraine really meant. Ukraine does not have the targeting systems or satellites to use long-range missiles for strikes into Russia.
If long-range missiles were used by Ukraine, they originate from the U.S-NATO and they are deployed with the targeting of U.S-NATO. Vladimir Putin clearly stated that if such weapons were used, Russia will not pretend or ignore that this is direct provocative engagement by NATO against Russia. Knowing this, the people around Joe Biden have just deployed exactly what Putin warned about.

Had he allowed the U.S. Navy to make the Black Sea a NATO Lake, based in the Crimea, he would have not only been driven from office but would have allowed a huge gap in Russia’s security situation.
Putin also points out that Russia has no desire to rule over non Russians and he points out the folly of empire every chance he gets. No. The U.S. and NATO are the bad guys now. Let’s hope President Trump can bring this madness to an end.

Respectfully, I disagree. As a former military analyst for the US government–before the current lunatics took over at the White House and Pentagon–Putin has been very measured. Tactically and strategically, Russia’s military moves are logical. We may not like what they do, but Russia has Rules of Engagement quite different from our own.
But the US? WE are the ones that are irrational–the only reason we have done what we have done is to ESCALATE for greater death and destruction, which is by and large anathema for our history as a country. We have a lot of blood on our hands.
This was NOT about adding to their territory. This was about acknowledging and respecting Russia’s very clear, EXISTENTIAL red lines: no NATO troops, NATO training, or NATO member state on Russia’s immediate border. Throughout history, Russia has been invaded (Napolean, Hitler, etc) via the open terrain of Ukraine. Hence, they have always endeavored to have a buffer zone to their west (Ukraine) and to their south (Georgia, to stop Islam invaders and Islamic terrorists to team up with the Chechens).
In 2008, Russia fought an 8-day war with Georgia when Georgia made open declarations and movements toward NATO membership. So WHY, when Ukraine did the same thing, did we expect Russia to respond differently? The West/Washington/NATO didn’t learn-yet again–from history. Instead, we ignored Moscow’s warnings, we reneged on our agreements re: NATO on Russia periphery, we instigated a successful coup in Kyiv in 2014, we set up bio-warfare facilities in Ukraine, we trained Ukrainian soldiers…..In 2022, with the dementia patient in the White House, Russia had had enough and took matters into its own hands to protect the Russia population being pummeled and terrorized nightly by the Ukrainian military for years.
Moscow could have finished off Kyiv before NATO even got its shoes tied, but they didn’t. That’s measured, NOT the action of seeking territory for empire.

If missiles are launched deep into Russia, I would expect Putin to retaliate. What would happen if he did so by targeting a direct hit on the Pentagon? At this point, with my total disgust with the IC et al., I would have to seriously consider sending Putin a thank you note.
