Senator John Thune has been groomed by Mitch McConnell to be his replacement for decades. Thune’s ascension to the role of Senate Majority Leader is essentially a foregone conclusion.
Senator Thune will carry the full support of roughly 15-to-20 senate DeceptiCons (deceptive conservatives), and perhaps a dozen more squishy ones in the middle who want great committee positions. The important dynamic that comes into play now is Senate Committee Chairman “leverage” for Donald Trump’s nominees.
Earlier today on CNBC Senator John Thune discussed the upcoming secret ballot election for Senate Majority Leader. WATCH (prompted):

Essentially, this is Thune’s gentle first shot requesting President Trump “stay out of” the senate caucus decision. Likely, what matters most to President Trump is getting his nominees past the Republican majority confirmation process. Thune was in previous talks with President Trump several months ago, and again several weeks ago in Mar-a-Lago.
Senator Thune doesn’t want President Trump to put his finger on the scale. If matters of the Senate are left alone, Thune ascends – period. However, Thune isn’t stupid and would like Trump to support him. Essentially, Thune would welcome intervention so long as the intervention came with an endorsement.
Thune wants to be Senate Majority Leader. President Trump wants all of his ‘advise and consent’ nominees to glide through confirmation.
We should look for President Trump to endorse Thune; generally, that would indicate terms have been agreed and we can be optimistic. However, if we do not see an endorsement from President Trump, or if Trump endorses someone else, then we should watch out for full DeceptiCon opposition in the Senate from here on out.
A lot of the dynamic exists without any outside influence. The two positioned candidates are John Thune (SD) and John Cornyn (TX). Thune is heavily favored and likely has an easy inside track. The number of MAGA senators is around ten, not really enough to block any organized leadership challenge.

After secret deals are made between Thune and his fellow decepticons the secret vote will be made elevating him to the leadership position. After which he will gladly hand the leadership position over to his partner in crime Schumer. Trump allowed Paul Ryan to be Speaker to “go along to get along.” That proved to be an utter and complete disaster. I am not as knowledgable as Sundance about the inner workings of the treachery in the GOP, but IMHO there has to be a better way. From a layman’s perspective, it would seem that if you allow an enemy to take charge who will wheel & deal behind your back to undermine you in any way they can to continue their crime spree as usual (fleecing the American taxpayers to line their own pockets even if it means destroying the country) this is not a wise strategy.
If Trump goes to battle against this “business as usual” corruption, perhaps he will flush out the GOP Enemies-Within in full public view and voters can impeach? Each probably has plenty of skeletons (corruption and illegal activity) in their closets. Pick the ringleaders of the bully system to target first. RNC should simultaneously coordinate an effort to support alternate MAGA candidates in those states. Fortunately America spoke loud and clear in this landslide election. Instead of Trump being afraid to take on these RINOS, they are the ones who need to feel the fear.
People like you are why the second Trump presidency will mirror the first: a series of disappointing deep state appointees that oppose Trump until he has to fire them and nothing changes. Trump should endorse a good choice, and we should hold our representatives responsible when they don’t work with him if they get in despite Trump’s wishes.

There are places that it takes close to a million to run a school board race, let alone a race for a congressional seat. It is very difficult to get RINO’s out, even at local levels.

Trump should not only pick his choice but confirm that every 2020/2024 election will be audited and any senator that does not play ball will be primaried as a Democrat in Republican clothing by tbe same voters that just put Trump into office, only after our elections are forcefully made valid through measures that protect the will of legitimate voters. It’s hard to say which Senator would be a poorer choice for Senate Majority leader, Thule or my Senator Cornyn. The two terms most often used by my Texas friends in describing Cornyn are “disappointment” and “POS”. He will likely get ousted in the 2026 primary if a well funded candidate is chosen to oppose him. Cornyn has used the guise of bipartisanship to stab his voters in the back. Trump should twist arms to get someone like Cruz or Rubio in the role. Thule and Cornyn are not much different than Sen. Murkowski and Collins.

Majority Leader is a creation of and a rule of the Senate, so negating this rule is a Senate only function that the Supreme Court CANNOT review.
What “trumps” Senate Rules… the U.S. Constitution that makes the Vice President the President of the Senate. President = Majority Leader.
Now JD can set the agenda of the Senate and can decide and schedule which Bills and Confirmations and Recesses the Senate will have.
