I read somewhere that the reason that total drunks who drive and cause horrific accidents often never get themselves hurt in the same accidents in which they kill entire families is because they are so out of it that they just get tossed around like a rag doll, totally relaxed and out of it.

Could you explain the meaning of the term “Gods of the Copybook Headings?”
It seems to be meaningful, but I sure do not get the reference.

This poem is one of my favorites.
When learning cursive penmanship practice was necessary. Kids often had a specific book to practice in — the copybook. Some had pre-printed sayings at the top and the student was to copy that below on the ruled lines provided.
My school didn’t have those, we had Big Chief tablets. Twice a week we had penmanship lessons from a teacher from another class who had lovely Palmer method handwriting. She would have each child give her a page from their tablet and she’d write a line, most often some homily or a famous historical quote like the beginning of Lincoln’s Gettysburg address. We had to copy the line over and over to fill the page. The idea was that by doing this you would learn penmanship and also a lesson imparted by the copybook heading.
The ‘gods’ referred to in the title are those who write the headings, words to live by or instructions. The whole poem shows everything that the ‘gods’ say is new and progressive really isn’t and has been tried and has failed before.
Kipling was very disillusioned when he wrote this. His only son had died in WW1 and Kipling was bitter and had come to see how futile most wars are. There was a huge movement towards pacifism at the time but soon the world was at war again.

All they are capable of is to lie, make senseless accusations and spew vitriol. They have no policy,just mindless hatred. Nothing. It’s a given that whatever they accuse you of, they are doing themselves.
The Left proves that observation every time one of those creatures opens their pie holes!
There should be a push out there to prove Hitler was a LEFTIST. He was into government power and control. Huge on identity politics. He was everything the left is today. And somehow he was “on the right?” NOPE. It was a lie created by leftists in the US in order to preserve their own image.
