I am certainly no expert on North Carolina politics, but what I can tell you after watching this interview is that North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is completely incapable of dealing with the catastrophic crisis unfolding right now in WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA.
Far-east Tennessee and Western North Carolina are cut-off from the rest of the world. Not only have the main artery roads, interstates and bridges been wiped out, but also communication lines, fiber optic cables, transmission towers, cell towers, the works have been destroyed.
If you remember the communication blackout, and subsequent slow rolling information stream that took four days to surface in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (2005), you will have reference for why it is taking the nation so long to realize what is happening in Western NC.
The video below is exactly what you do not want to see in this situation.
Last night Governor Roy Cooper delivered a shocking “exclusive interview” with WLOS News 13. What makes the interview “shocking” is not just what Cooper says, but the manner in which he says it. This guy is in a bubble without any concept of what is happening on the ground. This interview represents everything you NEVER WANT TO SEE, in a state of emergency. WATCH:
First, Governor Roy Cooper is isolated and alone. There are no state emergency officials next to him. He is not in an emergency response posture; nor is he in a coordination center with the officials that matter. 15 minutes of time during a period of extreme crisis is a lot of time to waste. This should be a press conference with every state emergency official, from every responding agency, surrounding him to offer specifics on what they are doing.
Next, listen carefully to what Governor Cooper is saying. You will hear the words “learning”, “coordinating”, “facilitating”, “attempting to understand” etc., intertwined in the responses.
Governor Cooper has no idea what to do and he is deferring response to the private sector, who are stuck inside the crisis region. The scale of the crisis is too large for the private sector to handle right now. People are trapped and literally exposed to deadly situations during these 15 minutes of nothing.
Western North Carolina is in a state of crisis. People are trapped. Entire small towns and communities are isolated by lost roads and bridges. Many people can only be reached by helicopter. Communication in the region is almost impossible. The outside world has no way to understand just how bad things are in specific areas because those areas are cut-off from all transit and communication.
Now is not the time for politics. This issue is about competency.
Now is a time for action. This is day #3, and as each day passes the desperation gets worse. Remember, the standard rule of thumb from all emergency officials is for everyone to be self-sufficient for 3 days. After those 3 days, responses and resources should be well positioned.
When day #4 comes and there is still no adequate response, you get a Katrina outcome; desperation starts to manifest in social breakdown.
The people of North Carolina are good, self-sufficient and resourceful people who will help each other and their neighbor. No, they are not Katrina dependency minded. These are bootstrapped, solid people who know how to survive. However, there are also many people in the region in less fortunate situations; older, perhaps more vulnerable, perhaps less prepared, and currently cut off from the world.
Governor Cooper needs to get there himself.

Was in that part of the state just two weeks ago. Apart from Asheville, this is Trump country–all kinds of Trump Vance signs all over the place. State and federal government will do nothing or very little to help these people out.
Unfortunately, Cooper is a dimwit. No emotion, no sense of urgency. Now is the time for Mark Robinson to step up and make some noise.
.
Is Robinson the guy who was hospitalized on Friday, I believe, from some sort of burns . . .?
I read that he accidentally leaned against a hot truck tailpipe and had 2nd degree burns.
He has and is stepping up by traveling as much as possible and gathering donations.
And he’s dressed in mourning clothes – or the starched black shirt of an attack company. He looks like someone who works for the Emperor. Or the KBG

Now, all you gotta’ do is get to Assville.
And he doesn’t even say *where* in Asheville.
This A$$ gives people no specifics at all.
So, I guess he’s expecting that people who can, will go to Asheville and then start asking around?
It’s “Asheville”
I’ve been there. It’s Assville. Liberal capital of N.C.
I agree with Sundance’s observations on this Governor. I re-listened to many parts of his comments and not one statement addressed the utter devastation and complete destruction of infrastructure. Portable cell transmitters is of little use to people who are stranded by blocked roads. Utilities cannot even think about arriving on scene without a thorough evaluation of the utilities with interdependencies between East TN and W NC. It could take upward to a year to restore them. This guy isn’t even 65 yrs old and he’s what you’d expect in an early dementia 85yr old. Are we looking at a Democrat fleshbag used like biden?
Apparently he has no executive skills whatsoever. I read somewhere that his campaign was Soros funded. But I wonder if the election was stolen…
Yes. They counted votes way past the end date.
Yes. He and Josh Stein were bought by Soros.
Yes, it was definitely stolen in 2016 when he first came to power. They “found” just enough ballots in Durham on election night to put him over the top when it was clear the Republicant was going to win. In 2020 I realized it was just practice for what happened that year.
re: “Portable cell transmitters”
TOO MANY ppl becoming dependent on the little ‘smart phones’ with high-res ‘retina’ screens don’t venture out much considering alternative comms like – ham radio … many inexpensive HF transceivers about today along with a simple wire dipole and 12 volts from the car battery allow comms outside the affected area, to summon help and apprise an operating ‘net control’ of developing dire situations …
I am in WNC, I have been trying find what roads are open/closed. The NC DOT Road Closure web page is absolutely worthless. WNC is wrecked. You’d think information on road closures in a disaster would be the least the state could do…but alas, it is the weekend, time to take a few days off from their grueling 40 hr week of pretending to work.
Roy Cooper is as worthless as the states road closure web page.
wow.
That is disgusting.
And makes it so much harder for people who are trying to get out.
I’m sure Gas supplies are low.
So NC DOT is expecting people to just drive around randomly, hoping the way forward is “Open”. Then turn around and backtrack when it’s not?
Guess so.
Gas stations are closed with No electricity. Those few with generators can not get supplies when empty. Massive lines when they get fuel. Little gas on I-26 from Spartanburg to Asheville.
I am here and that is what it takes–of course there’s no guarantee’s that doing that will affect a successful end to the problem. The day of the flooding in my community, I watched as a creek that was just running full turned into a raging 200ft wide river completely encompassing my home two hours later. Anything not bolted down soon went into the currents and is now somewhere along the trail of devastation. It is pretty hopeless and sad that the infrastructure was so easily shut down completely. Makes me wonder how hard it would be to shut down the whole countries infrastructure.
That must have been awful to watch. Sorry for your losses, Marty.
Praying for you, Marty. And everyone there.
Hi. Don’t know where you are. This may not help you at all.
We were on Buffalo Shoals Road in Lake Lure. Got out heading N on Buffalo Shoals and took the long way around on 64/74 to CR 9. Took 9 to Big Level Road in Polk County. Then right on 108 into the community of Columbus. Then I-26 toward Spartanburg SC.
FYI, some of these roads were not officially open but they were passable.
I hope this may provide assistance to you, but maybe not. This individual says that Reddit has a list of road openings. Im not registered on Facebook, so can’t tell you more, but it’s possible the info is still there and hopefully correct

Best of luck and many prayers up for you and your neighbors. 🙏❤️
This is what experts meant when they started saying 15-20 years ago the US infrastructure was literally falling apart. Bridges, roads, power grids, waterworks that are so lacking in proper maintenance, a single weather event can completely cripple an entire state.
All due respect, that is completely incorrect. These could have been brand new roads, bridges, etc and the mess would have been the same. This is a 100 year or probably 1000 year flooding event. NO planning or prep keeps everyone safe. Nothing built can survive the force of this water.
We need to ask Zelensky for a contribution.
Does any one know if the Biltmore itself survived? If I remember right it was in a valley?
Latest posted on their website here: https://www.biltmore.com/weather-update/
The Village is in a valley; the home itself is on somewhat higher ground.
Well-built.
Those who can, get on with it.
Those who yammer would be lost without those who can.
Go, Rednecks, salt of the earth…
You are America!!! 🇺🇸
HurraY for toxic masculinity. The men will do wonders!
They will, Biddie. We’d be nowhere without them 👍🏻
I’ve once been in a similar scenario many years ago. The immediate neighborhood was filled with hunters. Within an hour of NO grid, NO nothing, the streets were filled with picnic tables and the picnic tables were were filled with hot food, barbeque grills everywhere, fires to warm up by.. .. all the men simply went into their garages and basements and brought our all the stuff they use during hunting season. They then went knocking on every single door to ensure everybody was safe and sound
And the food was superb.
Don’t ever let THEM take away the second amendment!!!!
Let’s all hear it, “HurraY for capable masculine men!”
I don’t know where this happened…Florida perhaps…
But it has been reported that as linemen came to eat or rest, there was a long line of local women waiting. When the linemen asked what was up, these earthly angels said they were to take their dirty clothes for washing.
Good hearts, and good cooks, too, by all reports, who are keeping those helping restore civilization well fed.
Lord love them all 🙏🏻💕

Oh, I feel sooo relieved now. King Putt has spoken. Now he can return to his cellar, eat ice cream, and count his money.
😆
So Kamalala goes to the southern border for a photo op instead of to the states devastated by Helene.
She is stupid and incompetent. Her response to this catastrophe should disqualify her from the Presidency.
I suspect were these “Democrat” strongholds, she would have been there immediately. Disgusting human!
That was just a quick pit stop… next, on to LA for a fund raiser.
She learned at the knee of Obama who jetted off for a fundraiser there in the immediate aftermath of Benghazi.
Asheville is deep blue.
Want to help but are not in a position to work for free?
FEMA contracts for inspection services in their disaster housing program. There are only two companies in the nation that are vendors to FEMA for these inspection services. They do not maintain large permanent workforces. Here is one of them. Hit “Become an Inspector.”
Almost anyone who resides indoors and can use an iPad has enough of a background to do this work successfully. An inspector’s expenses are covered by the company. That person would have lodging in a dry place, internet, and the ability to do laundry. One of these jobs could be be good stopgap work for a person who just watched his/her job float downstream in a flood.
https://www.wspinspectionservices.com/
Look around the website then click on “Become An Inspector.” I worked for them in Texas after Harvey then in Florida after Irma.
All applicants should be prepared to pass a Homeland Security background check and sign an NDA. There are rules and all inspectors must follow the guidelines. There are also quality inspectors who will reinspect the inspector’s work.
I hope this helps somebody.
Do they require covid-19 vax to be considered for employment? Because if they do, no thanks.
No idea.
This is so sad.
This Gov. gives absolutely no details/specifics on what is being done to deal with the situation. He’s just describing the situation.
He’s giving a speech that anyone of us here could give, sitting anywhere in the US. All of the “info” he’s giving can be gotten by anyone with a working computer/cell phone on X, YT, etc.
Tell those poor people and their loved ones what the State of NC is doing right now to deal with specific problems in specific locations.
Is that too hard?
What’s the plan?
Have you seen the thread about the news conference. Sundance watched it and here’s a link to his commentary

Check with DeSantis (or Kemp), they are the ones behind the scenes getting things done for NC…I’d put money on it.
There are many former Floridians resettled in those mountains and they will not sit idly by waiting for things to happen. Due to their extensive training from FL disasters, many will instinctively know what to do to survive and will help others do the same.
Man, those people on the roof in that last tweet don’t have much longer before they have to start swimming.
Hope they’re OK.

People who live in this area a very tough.
.
Roy Cooper is inadvertently fomenting rugged individualism.
.
The in action of Roy Cooper is typical of Democrats in NC and surprises now one in Western NC.
.
Western NC is a very RED area, so this certainly is a form of voter suppression.
.
The National Democrat part is terrified that Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson will be elected Governor of NC.
.
Democrats in NC are snakes and stop at nothing to destroy anyone who opposes them.
.
To me this is a sign that Mar Robinson has won and they want to hang this mess around his neck.
.
This is how the American Left fights war against the citizenry that oppose them.
.
Get used to it and in the words of Bill Clinton after commit’tin. rape, “You should put some ice on that lip.”
Republicans in name only in NC have done as much damage as the Democrats.
Central NC here. Thank you for this thread, Sundance. We still have no Internet here, but at least I can get around safely.
These pictures and videos are heartbreaking. And yes, Roy Cooper is an idiot whose only skills I have seen after 8 years, was to run away from Kamala Harris and her train wreck of a campaign.
Cooper has presided over an overwhelmed DMV here in NC that is beyond frustrating whenever you have to visit. They have been understaffed since Mass retirements after COVID and they have closed three rural DMVs in the last three weeks due to staffing.
My 15r old had to go twice to pass a learner’s permit test and the office ( an hour away) was full of illegals with their translators and other 15 yr olds who also failed.
They demand so much compliance and nanny state driving requirements and yet we have to wait 4 months for an appointment just to get seen…and walk ins take all day.
Mark Robinson could win NC with one huge ad buy promising to fix the DMV. I have shared many silent, knowing looks with other frustrated Carolinians in line at the DMV lately…we all know this is FUBAR.
Praying for all the folks out in WNC. Hold tight!
If I (HAARP) had the ability to alter the weather for the worse, these are the areas I would attempt to destroy.
No, you have a complete misunderstanding of HAARP.
IF you knew anything, you would blame Hunga Tonga, the underwater volcano eruption of early 2022 that shot something like 100 million tons of water vapor into the air. Some sources attribute the generally wet summer of 2024 to Hunga Tonga, which seems plausible.
HAARP – not EVEN in the running …
Hunga Tonga Hunga (gotta love that name) is also the prime culprit for the higher-than-average sea temperatures, that fuel hurricanes and tropical storms and increase their intensity.
Thank you!
Hunga Tonga. 2022
Thank you kindly!
WOW 😲
Tonga Eruption Blasted Unprecedented Amount of Water Into Stratosphere – NASA
https://www.nasa.gov/earth/tonga-eruption-blasted-unprecedented-amount-of-water-into-stratosphere/
-Yup!: – Hunga Tonga single-handedly increased global atmospheric water vapour content by *10%*.
In the UK we usually have summertime thunderstorms that regularly come through whenever the humidity peaks and they reliably clear that crap out of the air so it’s nice and dry and a bit cooler after. – The last three summers, not so much – it’s still muggy and hot after every single storm.
One would think that for the sake of Optics during an election that Harris et. al. would do something.
Western North Carolina will be getting hit with snow storms before October is over. Asheville, elevation 2,134, received a dusting of snow on Oct.1st, 1952 and 2 -3 inches on Oct.23rd, 1923. Keep in mind that Asheville is one of the lowest towns, elevation wise, in Western NC! Asheville sits in between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the East and the Great Smokey Mountains to the West. Almost everything around Asheville is at a higher elevation.
There are well over 100 Western NC mountains beyond 5,000 feet in altitude.
40 of those mountains are over 6,000 feet high.
Check out these town elevations: Boone 3,333; Beech Mountain 5,506; Banner Elk 3,739; Cashiers 3,600; Highlands 3,835; Linville 3,665; Sapphire 3,166;
Winter is almost upon the residents of Western NC. Many, many people will probably still be without electricity, gas and phone service when the snow starts falling. I lived in the Asheville area (Fairview – Mars Hill) for almost 6 years, circa 1990 – 1995.
And before that, apparently there already are tropical storm formations in the Atlantic and the Gulf.

My 81 YO sister lives in Madison County, 12 miles North of Marshall, NC. off a 2 lane highway (NC 212), flanked by Shelton Laurel Creek. Her house is high enough to avoid flooding, but that creek floods & takes out bridges that connect the property to the highway. Never had cell service that far back in the mountains, but even POTS (plain old telephone service) is out. She would never connect internet. TV is via DISH network. When I called her before Helene hit FL, I warned of flooding (bridge out possibility) and electricity outages (no well water). Told her to freeze bags of water, fill tub with water, flashlights, etc. She didn’t do any of that, she “hoped it wouldn’t be so bad”. I told her, “Hope is not a plan.” She hasn’t reported in. PS – She’s a Democrat through & through. Now I will have to drive down, also bringing supplies & my portable ham equipment. 13 hours from Wisconsin on a good day.
What a great brother you are.
ALL you wanna-be ‘preppers’ take note; THIS is why you have a so-called ‘ham license’ (and make use of it regularly) …
GOVERNMENT is NOT going to BE THERE when the BIG ONE (WHATEVER IT MAYE BE) hits … you catch my drift on this!!!??
Several people have contended that in this type of situation, Ham radio would need way too much energy.
I do not know.
Just sharing what I read
But since you are knowledgeable, perhaps you could address this allegations.
Thanks
Cooper is an idiot. Mark Robinson has been traveling as much as possible to gather donations and help as much as humanly possible. I live in Raleigh so not affected at all other than some rain. Mark is asking for people to gather donations of all kinds for these people in western NC. Please keep them in your prayers as well and vote for Robinson to be our next EFFECTIVE governor.
We are in Pinellas County Florida recovering and we have a nephew stranded in Asheville, NC with no power and very little spotty cell service. The roads in and out of Asheville are devastated and people are stuck. Prayers please!
Sundance is spot on with this. They finally did the big press conference today. I turned to my wife and told her he didn’t have a F’n clue what was going on. Not a damn clue. Thank God we have a great Emergency Management department that has too much experience dealing with hurricanes and such in the east and wild fires in the west. There are USAR (Urban Search And Rescue) and teams from all over the eastern USA that were prepositioned before the flooding started.
FEMA had multiple teams prepositioned as well. FD from the eastern 2/3 of NC are being called to man fire stations in Asheville because their folks have be personally affected and have lost everything. All coordinated through NCEM & OSFM, not the freaking Governor’s office.
Sorry have to comment again. We have in state the teams, people and experience to deal with this HUGE crisis. We have the best fire departments, EMS services, LEOs in the country. Our power folks have people and equipment rolling into NC from as far away as New Brunswick, Canada! NCDOT already has response teams trying to figure out how to best fix the roads and bridges of which there are 280 roads closed! I-40 has the east bound lanes washed away the the NC/TN state line. There’s a huge mud slide on I-40 between Old Fort and Black Mountain climbing up to Eastern Continental Divide. Roy Cooper is useless!!!!!
Thank you for your perspective.
So just because the guv is incompetent, it does not mean that the disaster relief professionals are.
Thank goodness.
Then I can presume that within 72 more hours we will see definite progress.
We all hope for the best.
Thank God.
I appreciate your posts very much!
