As a result, only a few dozen supporters showed up to hear the preliminary economic plan of Kamala Harris.
The official crowd size was listed at 109 participants, including media as Kamala read from a teleprompter at the event.
Harris has pledged price controls for groceries, which will drive up the price of groceries. Harris has pledged $25,000 in down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, which will drive up the price of housing. And Harris has pledged to use taxpayer funds to build 5 million residential housing units for low-income illegal aliens.

THIS is not going to help them at all – it is just going to make housing MORE expensive and will only benefit people who have not lived/worked in this country all their lives!

Way back when, for a decade, I was a federal employee fairly low on the GS scale. I remember that every time we got a cost of living adjustment to our salaries, the Government health plan premiums would go up by exactly the same amount, every single time. We grunts at the bottom basically got nothing. Kamala’s economic plan reminds me of that dynamic.
Yep, similar situation for my dad in the 60’s; he was a lifer (35 years) with the state gov and had to take a second job as a tax preparer (he was a CPA) to make ends meet and we lived pretty austerely but were never poor. So, from January to April I saw very little of him.
They did a good job of shielding me from the financial realities in the 60’s. I started waking up to them when getting a paper route in the late 60’s.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech Friday was an opportunity to get specific with voters about how a Harris presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working well for them. Unfortunately, instead of delivering a substantial plan, she squandered the moment on populist gimmicks.
Americans are clearly still anxious and angry about the high cost of groceries, housing and even $5.29 Big Macs. While the inflation rate has cooled substantially since the 2022 peak, an ostensible Biden-Harris administration accomplishment, prices remain elevated relativeto the Trump years. So it’s a real political issue for Ms. Harris.
One way to handle it might be to level with voters, telling them that inflation spiked in 2021 mainly because the pandemic snarled supply chains, and that the Federal Reserve’s policies, which the Biden-Harris administration supported, are working to slow it.
The vice president instead opted for a less forthright route: Blaming big business. She vowed to go after “price gouging” by grocery stores, landlords, pharmaceutical companies and other supposed corporate perpetrators by having the Federal Trade Commission enforce a vaguely defined “federal ban on price gouging.”
Never mind that many stores are currently slashing prices in response to renewed consumer bargain hunting. Ms. Harris says she’ll target companies that make “excessive” profits, whatever that means. (It’s hard to see how groceries, a notoriously low-margin business, would qualify.) Thankfully, this gambit by Ms. Harris has been met with almost instant skepticism, with many critics citing President Richard M. Nixon’s failed price controls from the 1970s. Whether the Harris proposal wins over voters remains to be seen, but if sound economic analysis still matters, it won’t.
Ms. Harris’s housing plan is built on a slightly firmer foundation. In urging construction of 3m new homes over the next four years, she puts her finger on the essence of the housing-affordability problem: insufficient supply.
She offers clever tax incentives to help make it happen.But her proposed $25,000 in down payment assistance for first-time home buyers stimulates the demand side, which risks putting upward pressure on prices. Such a measure might make sense if Ms. Harris paid for it by eliminating other demand-side housing subsidies, such as the mortgage interest deduction, a roughly $30 billion annual drain on federal revenue that benefits many wealthy Americans — but she does not.
Ms. Harris is on firmest ground when she advocates increasing the child tax credit from the current level of $2,000 per kid up to $3,600 per kid for middle-class and low-income families, and for making it easier for those lower on the income scale to access the benefit.
These levels were in place in 2021 and resulted in many families being lifted above the poverty line. Assuming it’s designed with appropriate work incentives, the child tax credit can be highly effective anti-poverty policy.
Ms. Harris also suggested expanding the earned income tax credit for childless low-income “front-line workers,” a smart idea that has enjoyed bipartisan support in Congress. She would extend beyond 2025 tax breaks to help Americans of modest means afford to buy health insurance on the Affordable Care Act marketplaces; those tax breaks are part of the reason more than 92% of Americans have health insurance now. She also wants to expand the government’s limited power to negotiate Medicare drug prices and permanently cap out-of-pocket drug spending at $2,000 per year for everyone.
Her ideas would cost money, yet she insisted in her speech that she would hold to President Joe Biden’s pledge not to raise taxes on any household earning $400,000 or less annually. That excludes 80% of taxable income , and does not take into account the recent surge in families earning over $400,000. The Harris campaign says it plans to raise revenue to cover these costs but did not provide specific offsets in its economic plan rollout.
Without them, Ms Harris’s full plan would add $1.7 trillion to federal deficits over a decade, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan budget watchdog.
To be sure, every campaign makes expensive promises that will never come to pass, especially with a divided Congress. Remember Mr. Biden’s pledge to make community college free ?

I’ve spoken with several homebuyers recently, who received downpayment help from their parents. This didn’t cause them to bid extra for their home. It just helped them to qualify for the mortgage by having clear downpayment funds from a gift.
If one individual has helping money, they have a purchasing advantage.
If many people have this money, and the seller knows it, the asking price will eat the money, and people who don’t get the ‘free’ money are paying for those who do.
Anyone with a working memory knows that the Democrat way is to write the giveaway so their favorite people get whatever, and regular people don’t. From ‘free’ Obamaphones to cash for clunkers, fly-by-night solar companies that vaporize to spurious loan forgiveness, always buying votes with our money.
We can count on the illegals to suck up any such giveaway so that actual Americans have yet another thing to pay for with only crime and mayhem as reward.

It’s effectively reducing the cost of the houses – initially. More people can afford them, so more people bid on them. The increase in demand drives up the prices. The houses remain expensive anyway. It’s great for the sellers…except they have to live somewhere too. In the end it’s corporate owners and mortgage companies making a windfall on the backs of the middle class.

If Sundance’s concerns about JD Vance are correct, then no…..the Deep State doesn’t want to “take out” Vance. Besides that, Vance is replaceable. There are hundreds of mechanical discrepancies…most easily resolved…that cause normal operating delays and RTF’s every day in USA airspace that handles tens of thousands of flights every day.
Other than the presence of JD Vance (who is replaceable, btw) how does this instance differ, and what evidence do you have that it is “suspicious”?
There is reasonable suspicion, and then there is paranoia.
How is your suspicion reasonable vs simple paranoia?

that plane door seal thing happened a few months ago on a Boeing commercial plane. The door actually flew off the plane in midflight. it was a known problem that Boeing rolling out a fix for, and they screwed up this one. I think I read someone observed the mechanics using Dawn dish soap to help with the repair (they were observed fixing the door Before the plane took off).

I was watching Fox News today (Outnumbered, maybe), and one of the female anchors said she watched the Kamala / Tim Walz ‘taco interview’ on Youtube, and was surprised that there were mainly positive comments on Youtube. The segment was a bash session of the ‘taco interview’ vs. an actual interview with the press.
I guess shthe Fox anchor didn’t know about all the Robot-farms still alive and well on Google/Youtube. That and no real person would sit down and watch that whole thing.
