After the manufactured crises of Bush v Gore, first at the Fed. level they past the “Help Americans Vote” act (or something like that) that authorised the Fed. Giverment to foot the bill for the States to switch over to voting machines, which was going to cost 100’s of 1000’s of $, per State.
THEN, the lobbyists moved to the States, where THEY submitted legislation they had written, to the State Legislatures to pass, and Governors to sign, SO THAT the States could then contract with Dominion or SES, for the machines.
The legislation went far beyond simply laws regarding the machines; the changes to the definition of STANDING, in order to file electiin challenges, the burden of proof, the legistlation instructing judges that without direct evidence proving otherwise, they are to believe election officials in any challenge, etc. And, an aggregious fine for anyone that brings an election challenge, if it is deemed ‘frivolous’, all to discourage any challenge.
The” hanging chad” we had to have electronic voting to save us from the embarrassment, like “The Patriot Act” is there to save us from the terrorist.

There have been significant upticks this summer alone, after a period of relative calm. I’m also noting more inelasticity than prior, meaning fewer price swings and fewer sales or coupons/discounts.
The bulk of what I track is food, specifically food that qualifies for SNAP, since I’m a senior on a low fixed SS income. However, I watch other essentials as well, like OTC medical items, household essentials, and local fuels across the hydrocarbon matrix.

Shrinkflation is a thing but hasn’t substantially impacted the sample basket I use. I track it by cost per unit of weight or volume (like ounces, pounds, pints, quarts, etc) so can compare those unit costs when any price changes occur.

I read an article about it today and how it’s quarterly earnings and update didn’t excite investors. Some interesting numbers in the article. Parks division contributes 54% to operating earnings now vs. 26% prior to the pandemic. And the earnings in that division were disappointing and stock dropped on the news. The doubling in importance of the parks division is not a good sign. They can only raise prices so much and they’re very high now. And it means their other businesses are not doing well at all or they’d be contributing more than parks and a growing number if they were. Growth potential of parks division is limited.
The article tried to put a positive face on things by saying its streaming business made a slight profit instead of a huge loss. Easy to do when you raise prices and massively cut spending. The streaming industry is overcrowded and Disney isn’t close to Netflix. All in all, the articles and numbers were not a good sign at all for Disney’s future.

While Walz temporarily held the title of command sergeant major he “retired as a master sergeant in 2005 for benefit purposes because he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy,” Army Lt. Col. Kristen Augé, the Minnesota National Guard’s State Public Affairs Officer, told Just the News.
The statement reignited a controversy that began during his 2018 election for governor in which National Guardsman claimed on social media and in a paid ad that Walz declined to deploy to Iraq for combat duty in 2005 and forfeited his title of command sergeant major. Walz chose to run for Congress that year.
“He retired as a master sergeant in 2005 for benefit purposes because he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy,” she added.
According to Army Regulation 600-8-19, a solider who does not complete the requisite coursework results is automatically demoted.

I have tried to take my time in responding to stories about Tim Walz’s service record. The hypocrisy astounds me.
Because I am a Trump supporter & running against a liberal career politician, a so-called Pentagon correspondent asked me to provide documented evidence of every time I had been outside the wire on a deployment & every time I received incoming enemy fire.
I was asked to provide my medical records & grilled about why my brain injury didn’t earn me a Purple Heart. Contrast this with Tim Walz, whose entire political career appears to be based on a lie: that he served in Iraq when he did not.
He exaggerated his rank. In an effort to disarm law abiding Americans he implied he had seen combat when he never did.
All I know for sure is, when I was deployed to Iraq, I never saw Tim Walz there.
In the Navy we used to talk about something called “pulling a deployment muscle.” It seems to me that Tim Walz might have suffered just that.
While it upsets me to read how Walz abandoned his unit before the deployment, it frankly upsets me more that this man spent 20 years as a candidate and in elected office, now seeking the Vice Presidency of the United States, and no one in the media asked him before or since any simple question like:
You were supposed to deploy to Iraq, but you quit so you didn’t have to go, and then implied for years that you did. Why? The truth is: we all know the answer. And it is disqualifying for future service as our Vice President.
Lying about military service is far more widespread than most people would imagine. I still can’t believe how many claim they were Vietnam combat vets and they don’t take the time to figure out how old they would have been when there was combat going on in Vietnam.
What an absolutely shameful thing to do.
We have a sitting US Senator who is covered in Stolen Valor about Vietnam.
It means a very great deal to active service military and Veterans, their families, and decent Americans.
But not so much to government benefits feeders who are eager to slaughter their babies, and force gender changes on the survivors.

I volunteered for the draft in 1971. My draft lottery number was 99 and at the time I thought I was less than a year from being called up for service. I decided to enlist in October of ’71 rather than wait until the following spring or summer. I thought taking basic training in the fall – winter would suit me better than doing basic training in some hot Southern State in the summer.
Of course … The US Army has me go to Fort Dix, NJ where it actually snowed during basic! I like cold weather so that was OK.
I had friends who were in the same draft lottery, born in 1952, whose lottery number was much lower than mine and they were never called up for even a physical. If I had waited, I would have escaped the whole to do.
At the time, I thought the Vietnam War was an honorable thing. I never intended to lie, deceive or escape to Canada to avoid military service. To shirk my responsibility and have another die in my place was unthinkable. I spent basic at Ft.Dix and was sent to Ft. Bliss, TX for AIT and after school I was assigned to Bliss where I served the balance of my 2 year enlistment.
All through my junior and senior high school years I lived in a daily constant dread of going off to Vietnam after I got out of high school. I have always been very well read on historical and political events and I read newspapers and news magazines religiously. For me to master my fears, whether well founded or not, and face what I thought was my duty as an American took a toll on me as an adolescent and teen.
I got lucky! I did the right thing for the right reasons and was just plain lucky. In a million years I could never fathom why anyone would get lucky like I did and than proceed to steal some of the honor and courage from the poor souls who suffered through combat and those who paid the ultimate price? To be so lucky and then to steal to make yourself into a hero that you weren’t is another layer of greed.

And now Bloomberg has just been caught ghost-editing an old article on Walz to insert the lie.
Walz never served in Iraq, and never served in Operation Enduring Freedom. He served in Italy, and was never near any war zone.
By all accounts, Walz fled the National Guard once the deployment order to Iraq came down, leaving his unit in the lurch.
Walz has a Stolen Valor problem. And Vance is the one to drive it through him.
Why do they do this? His service was real, he didn’t need to lie about it.
This isn’t 1960, people will find out.
These people lie like you or I breathe. They are retail politicians, surrounded and enabled by a lying, fake media blanket. Their view is the lie will stick, and help them, before it can be exposed.
But sometimes, they get badly caught. This might be one of those instances, as it develops.
How Walz left was somewhat less than honorable, IMO.
He left his own unit holding the bag, and fled the service, upon a combat zone deployment. Having family in the military, that is among the worse things you can do to your brothers. It’s not quite desertion here, but it’s close enough.

Walz was also busted to an E8 (Master Sergeant when he retired because he didn’t complete the elements necessary for Commander whatever it was. So, he also is not the highest ranking NCO to enter Congress – which Kamala is promoting on the trail.
