2 things were always a problem: (1) Ruby killing Oswald. Dead men can’t talk; and (2) the FBI refused to permit a forensic autopsy on PJFK in Dallas, which is required and would be necessary to preserve the facts re: how he died.

Recovered shell casings are nice, and even fingerprints can sometimes be found by careless operators on them.
But recovered projectiles are even better, and can be traced back to, or excluded from, specific weapons.
Forensic analysis of the audio evidence will determine the number of rounds discharged. And there is an enormous volume of that audio, fortunately outside of the Government’s exclusive control.
The forensic ballistic evidence is often the dispositive trail to what happened, when and where. And it is also the first evidence to be destroyed, altered and tampered with in a dedicated cover up operation.
Who found the 8 shell casings and when? If it was these first responders, then it’s possible that it was a lone shooter. The audio seems to suggest that there were 2 shooters with a third shooter being the Counter sniper team.
If Crooks was the patsy, then retrieving some of his shells from the shooting range would not be difficult to add to the count. If all were wiped clean, then no fingerprints and I don’t think there is a way to distinguish two rounds fired on different days from the same gun.

All the rounds can be traced back to one weapon. But no, there is no way to date them that accurately (to the day) on just the projectile or casing analysis.
On an AR, the shells are fairly common and standardized to two calibers: 5.56 (NATO) and .223 Remington. There are a variety of manufacturers where some variance in materials and production markers will arise.
But if they knew what ammunition the Patsy was bringing, it’s a simple enough thing to just drop some spent casings from the same ammo manufacturer.
There is evidence identifying where the Patsy bought a box of 50 rounds right before going to the fairgrounds. A trailing agent could have recorded that, and the correct spent shells then easily created for such a subterfuge.
They found 3 shell casings in the Texas Book Depository in Dallas on Nov 22, 1963.
Range cases is a dead end. Tens of thousands to sort through, assuming they are event still there.
cases found at the scene should be easily matched to the rifle used. AR extractors and ejectors leave almost unique marks on the case rim and base, and the chamber lugs will also leave unique marks on the case neck. Even the angle of ejection can crate dents that are unique to the gun being used.
I’m guessing here, but the powder residue on the cases could be chemically matched to the powder carbon residue inside the chamber.
I’ve seen some casing analysis get things tight. But usually it’s with the projectile, as that is very defined, in high detail, with a very high confidence level (which is what is needed in court contexts). Experts are much more comfortable reading bullets.
The chemical analysis of propellant residues is unusual. But it might just work, particularly where a more proprietary propellant formula was used.
Yeah the machining marks on the firing pin can be matched to the expended primer to match gun to spent casings. Same technology as matching the barrel land grooves to the projectile. Wont help figure out if there were more than one shooter but could point out if someone were planting evidence for whatever reason.

I think you’re right. But only the audio analysis can evidence that more strongly.
Forensic audio analysis is a somewhat sophisticated process, and relies on oscilloscopes and precision clocking, and today more so computers. Expert work.

A sub-sonic round, low power charge, frangible bullet, would be enough to pop his melon with a low energy round that quickly disintegrated and dispersed its limited energy promptly and effectively, without over-penetrating and leaving both a bullet and a tell-tale track back to the exact location of its origin within the building.
That’s why the injury was to the back of his head, shot from the side window of the adjacent building behind him where the second “counter-sniper” team was located, and there was no entry wound on his face or the top of his head as would be expected if the shot came from the clownish counter-sniper team on the Slopeier Roof.
It did not enter his mouth, his teeth are merely blood encrusted, not gone, and not through the eye, though closed, both ocular globes are clearly intact beneath his lids.

4) Getting the coroner report documenting the ballistics of the kill shot including entry point, angle and caliber.
5) How many shell casing were found on the roof and how many actual projectiles have been found.
6) Talking to the local L/E who was supposedly assigned to that roof but left because it was hot? Was that his decision or did someone tell him to relocate?
Tons of unanswered questions and a complete no show by main agencies today.

Brass is ejected at fairly high speed from the AR. If the bolt timing is proper, the cases ‘shoot’ out and away from the rifle ejection opening somewhere between 2 and 4 o’clock . On that roof, the cases would be several yards to the right of the shooter and very likely, in my humble opinion, would not have stayed on the roof, but slid or rolled down to the gutter or roof edge.
if he had used a 10 round magazine instead of a 20 or 30 rounder, there likely may not be an unfired round to match against the fired brass. And a 10 round magazine would have been better for his own protection as the longer magazines would have forced his head up higher over the roof crown.
That is worth a look. If it was a 10 round magazine there should been 8 out and 2 in. Or 5 out and 5 in. Depending on which version you believe at this point. For the second shooter hypothesis to work, the one give away would be a completely exhausted 10 round magazine with 13 shots fired (an impossibility with a single gun). But if he went up there with a half filled 10 round magazine, that would work, but you then have the strangeness of a half filled magazine to explain. Did they say how many bullets were left in the magazine?

Sound analysis of recordings of the shooting will tell you if there was more than one shooter.
Some have been independently done already. The one I watched showed 3 shooters shooting towards stage and possibly a 4th. Kill shot coming from stage area by SS sniper. That was the final shot 15 seconds after last shot at stage.
But we all have heard this or that and have are own opinions. Why is this? Because the official investigation is a cover up and provides no clarity or truth.
I personally believe the independent expert I viewed. Who knows though.

According to a close family member the FBI are now in charge of guns not the ATF.
