Seemingly lost amid all of the discussion of Senators John Barrasso and Marsha Blackburn confronting U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle at the RNC convention last night, is the obvious question, why was Cheatle even there?
Did she meet with President Trump and offer an apology for what the USSS is positioning as a gross collapse of simple security procedures; or was Director Cheatle simply trying to save her position. We don’t find out answers to the baseline question because the politics of the event are the paramount prism for the Barrasso and the Blackburn promotion of their confrontation. I loathe all of them.

I ran in the congressional Republican primary for the Seventh Congressional District in Tennessee when Marsha Blackburn first ran for Congress.
I was one of seven primary candidates. Of course, she won. Blackburn was a political opportunist from way back before that when she was a state senator in TN.
I was the only primary candidate in that 2002 race whose platform was centered around (or even proposed to )”Stop Illegal Immigration.”
Even Republicans then did not want to talk about it. There was no big money to support my candidacy and Blackburn got a big donation from national PACs.
I was just a nobody and still am. I was pleased when the late G. Gordon Liddy, whom I knew personally, publicly endorsed me on his national radio show. I was told by other candidates, then, I was the most persistent and hardworking candidate in the race. I physically walked the streets in the broad district covering 13 TN counties.
Incidentally, Mark Green, now a U.S. congressman, was also a candidate in that primary race.

While I agree, you should understand how important TV ads are to a campaign. They are expensive and critical for an unknown to get elected. I actually quit a good job to campaign for four months out of my own pocket. I do not know the extent of Trump’s PRIVATE security team, or how it integrates with SS. It’s difficult to for me to conceive that any of his private people would be in on this. In contrast, I have long been suspicious of the SS.
Whenever Trump is out in public, including at a rally podium, there are lots of security people standing around him, looking OUTWARD into the crowd… in EVERY direction… scanning the crowd with their eyes.
The above timeline indicates Crooks was on the rooftop for TEN MINUTES before Trump took the stage, and for TWENTY MINUTES before firing.
Why didn’t any of the security people around Trump, who were looking in that general direction, notice the Crooks on the roof and take action to get Trump off the stage?

In which they show the Butler PD police chief describe how they were in charge of traffic – they were not, and had not been in any of the major meetings on security– heard about the suspicious person – went toward the building “to assist” and it was their (that day) traffic assigned police officers- who weren’t even involved in security – one who was boosted up to peak over the roof, and the other (traffic) officer boosting up the officer.
These were the TRAFFIC COPS. Randomly Ad Hoc ASSISTING because of the suspicious person report.
OK – where were the ACTUAL Security people? ANY security people??
This is what a story sounds like when people who are trying to cover their ass from multiple organizations make things up on the fly to cover for their real actions. It’s called BS.
The part that rings true is that they weren’t in any of the security planning meetings. There are records of those meetings and who attended.
And you can bet that Mayorkas is doing his best to shut everyone up and put together a narrative that won’t leak like a sieve.
One thing to be careful about. “Local LE” does NOT equal “Butler PD.” In SS terminology, all non-SS support (e.g., Philadelphia swat team) is local LE.
