The granular issue of this specific whistleblower story pertains to an FBI investigative employee who had his security clearance suspended after officials within the FBI discovered he attended a speech given by President Trump.
However, the bigger issue uncovered during a review of that punishment was written FBI instructions from within the sector of the FBI that investigates and issues security clearances. In essence, the FBI has a documented standard that political ideology determines who will get security clearances approved.
If a person supports President Trump, holds conservative views, or does anything that would identify themselves as not being in alignment with the leftist worldview, their security clearance application or renewal would be denied. Put another way, the FBI has written policy examples that discriminate against political views.

I keep mentioning the first book of Mark Steyn’s which I ever read, America Alone, in which he makes this exact point. Always a keen observer of history with an ability to point to a map of our moral decline which has a big red arrow stating “You Are Here!”

Just reading Henry Ford’s first chapter is an eye-opener. Published in 1920, after the Great War.
He makes pointed yet non-emotional statements regarding the influence of Jews in U.S. businesses.
His book would no doubt meet extreme criticism and ridicule 100 years after it was published.
Reading books from that era is what prompted me to purchase a set of 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica’s. Prior to the great war, there was a spirit of optimism not seen in today’s world, a mere century later.
I once had a “discussion” with a conservative friend wherein I asserted that he should obtain paper (hardbound) copies of old books, especially history books. He said that there was no need to bother since he could find everything historical, on-line. He particularly uses Wikipedia as his source.
It mattered not that I reminded him that the “victors” write the history books and that most ascending cultures demolished and try to erase the previous culture.
At any rate, reading the thoughts put in print 50 or 100 years ago provides an historical snapshot into the nation and world as it once was.

Yes the US has always had corruption, deep and widespread corruption. But the NATURE OF THE CORRUPTION is now different.
I once learned there were two basic types of corruption: functional and non-functional.
Functional corruption is where officials steal a little, cheat a little, self-deal a little, but they overall keep things running, don’t let the overall system break down, don’t let the skimming rise to where it becomes noticeable. They allow their fellow officials to all get a piece of the action, share and share alike together. They keep the system functional to preserve the game for as long as possible. Everyone benefits. There is a tolerable friction and loss from the graft but things still get along well enough.
Then there is Dysfunctional Corruption, where the officials don’t worry about long-term they just grab as much as they can steal right away. They don’t care if the system breaks or if people notice. They are just taking for themselves right now. They are cutthroat and will screw over anybody who stands in their way. It is zero-sum.

Since the world is and always has been basically a continuing conflict between competing oligarchies with some, like ours, having the calming illusion of voter control and a large, stabilizing middle class which is now going away, here’s my take:
In the 50s and 60s when most manufacturing was located in the US and US products dominated the WWII-destroyed world, the oligarchy was nationalistic and the targets of the FBI and CIA were the anti-nationalists (communists/leftists). Also, the boards of directors of those major corporations which were not multi-national were mostly patriotic Americans.
Now that so much manufacturing is outside the US, mainly in Communist China, and even US-based corporations are far more multinational with many board members who aren’t even US citizens, the oligarchy’s desired path is globalism, so nationalists are targeted and they, at least in the US, naturally tend to be anti-collectivists (anti-communist/anti-leftist) while big government enthusiasts (leftists) are not.
Also, those brainwashed with neo-Marxist Postmodernism pseudo-intellectual garbage during their “higher” education have reached positions of power in our gerontocracy. In 2021, the average age of a U.S. senator was 64. The same Postmodernism effect is also seen in lower levels of the educational system because teachers were also indoctrinated with that garbage in college. “The long march through the institutions” has ben highly successful.

As a former intel person of the Vietnam era, there were two types of security clearances. DoD and AEC. Obviously, being military mine was DoD. One must understand that any clearance does not allow said person to know things that are classified. In other words, if you didn’t need that classified info to do your job, you didn’t get that info (need to know). This is how they can exclude POTUS from this info.What we’re seeing now is how the government can do things not done before. What I’m saying basically is when you see the overall picture, it isn’t all that hard to connect dots! Today, I’m not so proud of my country as I was back then! Some of these dots have turned my stomach. Maybe living life does that to some. Always wondered why we needed to fundamentally change our country! The dot connections gets a little clearer.
I think, for some of we oldsters, it’s also a matter of what we understand about how things are and when we understand it. Life, to me, is, besides being a journey, a collection of information and experience which can add to the whole of understanding, comprehension, and assessment.

I held a TS/SCI/C clearance in and out of the mil for 30+ years. My entire livelihood was dependent on it. When the IRS came after me and froze all my accounts, my company was able to protect my clearance for months while former IRS agents I hired fought it out with current ones. Had I not been able to afford the lawyers, my clearance would have been revoked and my ability to make a living reduced to zip.
I can’t begin to express my anger to now find that some politically correct scumbags in the FBI would not, today, approve that clearance because I support Trump instead of the incompetent pedophile currently serving as POTUS.

The act of the FBI denying security clearance based upon political ideology is actionable under 42 U.S.C. section 1983. Every State actor including every specific employee involved all the way up to and including the head of the institution would be liable. The FBI has violated the civil rights of this man who went to a Trump Rally: namely, his rights under the first amendment and perhaps other rights as well (How did they learn he went to a Trump Rally? Are there 4th Amendment issues as well? 14th Amendment?)
Normally in these cases it is difficult to prove because there is no written policy but here Sundance points out there is a written, documented policy.

That is certainly true. I think some of the background investigations are being done by contractors now. High level, Top Secret and above, are still being investigated by the FBI.
