Dramatic footage shows the Francis Scott Key bridge in the Port of Baltimore being hit by a containership that plowed directly into a bridge support. The span is part of I-695 and goes over some of the waterway leading into the Port of Baltimore. The port, officially known as the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore, handles trucks, tractors, trailers and container offloading.
Thankfully the incident happened at 01:30am and traffic across the bridge was light.
(Via MSM) – […] The Singapore-flagged 948 ft. Dali vessel crashed into a column supporting the Francis Scott Key Bridge at around 1:30 a.m. local time in Baltimore, causing part of the bridge to collapse and catch fire before sinking.
At around 1:40 a.m., the Baltimore City Fire Department received an emergency services call to respond to a water rescue in the Patapsco River, according to fire chief Wallace. Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time of impact.
[…] Two people were rescued after a large shipping boat crashed into a bridge in Baltimore, Maryland and caused it to collapse on Tuesday morning, amid fears of a mass casualty event.
James Wallace, chief of Baltimore’s fire department, said in a press conference that “upwards of seven individuals” fell into the water after the Dali shipping container vessel crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge at 1:30 a.m. local time. The director of communications for Baltimore’s fire department, Kevin Cartwright, called it a “developing mass casualty event.” (read more)

I always find it interesting that after something happens to Russia (like a “terrorist” attack at a performing arts center), something happens to a supply chain or electrical grid component in the U.S.
I feel certain that our potential adversaries have used our open borders to flood our nation with saboteurs.
Those “adversaries” are own US based FBI, INTEL and DHS.
Also, do not discount a US Military Special OPS strike inside our borders. For the longest time, US Special OPS have conducted “infiltration training” inside our borders.
Just because the ship is flagged Singapore does NOT tell you anything the composition nor loyalty of the crew.
Then again, Singapore is 75% Chinese by ethnic background.

Trust God. Fear not.
They had better go back to “Tug” boats… or build a tunnel.
Gentle readers can check me but I believe a lot of hazmat goes through that port and I believe many forms of it are disallowed in the tunnels, so some bridges must exist.
I have no idea why harbor pilots *and* tugboats aren’t mandatory in such waters. Oh, right, money 🙂
The hazmats cross the bridge vs. going through the tunnel or go the long way around which they don’t have a choice now.
Harbor pilots are there, a tug his minimal impact on the path of a fully loaded freight moving 7-8 Kts. Tugs are there to launch and dock.
According to the Captain on the video, the impact of the tug boats are more than minimal, and might have helped avoid this. But since they are not required and weren’t there ……….
Tugboats were used, but they do not escort the vessel that far, unfortunately.
That might have to change.
State pilots are mandatory and there were 2 aboard. Tugs are not, nor should they be given how many ships have transited that water since 1977.
It’s just a shame they lost power so close to the bridge.
There were Harbor pilots and tugboats until they got into the main channel.
I listened to a former merchant marine captain on a local Baltimore TV station speaking about the event. The newspeople actually brought up tugboats not being there & he replied that the USCG has ultimate jurisdiction over that decision, & in Baltimore harbor, tugs are only required to accompany ships away from dock into the shipping channel. Once in the channel, the tugs release, & that point is up river from the bridge. Seems weird to me. 🤔
*I found that video…
Thanks for the discussion. I’ve seen a version of that dynamic play out from the tugboat side watching the ‘Shipping Harbors’ channel on Youtube, a sample of which I posted in the thread, showing their work as a tugboat in a container port in Europe. Very interesting stuff and, yeah, they have accidents and fires too, and the uploader has some good videos of them.
Seems entirely normal to me.
I was thinking I read this morning that a local pilot was on board the ship.
Don’t see reason to have tug boats there. Should they also be at the Bay Bridge?
Yes, agree.
The third largest port in the WORLD is now shut down.
Yes, and at a time when conflicts on the west coast had shippers re-routing to east coast ports post-Covid. Never mind the enormous naval shipbuilding industry that runs on the east coast.
It will be interesting to see if such ‘accidents’ accelerate, or not, in the coming months. Meanwhile, innocent people are injured or die. Sad. 🙁
Not even in the top 60 by volume.
Not even in the top 10 container ports in the US. It’s a long trip up the Chesapeake Bay through a rather shallow channel.
It’s a disaster for the poor people of Baltimore, and of course for the rest of us in Maryland who will have to pay for this mess, but not a national tragedy. The grifters will be coming out of the woodwork to collect the federal disaster funds. No doubt there will be extensive DEI requirements in the construction contracts.
Baltimore is like 20th in the country. The world? Not even top 70.
This port may not be third largest in USA. It does not appear on a list of the top 50 Worldwide.
Heroic construction workers stopped traffic before bridge collapse, 6 still missing

I am reminded of the day the Sunshine Skyway bridge was knocked down, May 9th, 1980. Just six months before the collapse, I traveled that span at 7:30 every morning. (It was struck and collapsed at 7:31 am) 35 people lost their lives that morning, a real tragedy at a more innocent time in America. Without any doubt, it was an accident with a number of mistakes, inadequate protection for the bridge, and bad weather all contributing to the disaster.
Prayers for those people who ended up going down with the bridge in Baltimore.
Here is some information on YouTube about the Skyway collapse nearly 44 years ago.
I lost a coworker and her kids in that incident
I lost a college friend years later as he was one of the first to drive off of the I-40 bridge over the Arkansas River in Eastern Oklahoma. Freak awful luck. He was changing duty stations from Ft Lewis to Ft Bragg and had flown back to finish up and drive his dog to his new location.
Awful. RIP Andy.
Cherp. So very sorry for your losses.
So so sorry
In 1983, 100 feet of the Mianus Bridge in Greenwich CT collapsed in the wee hours of the morning. It was on I- 95, a main artery between CT and NY. We had traveled it the week prior to JFK, and it had happened the day before we returned. The original engineering and lack of competent inspection were given as the cause of the catastrophe.
Ironically, my dad and his crew of “bridge rats” – also known as Railroad drawbridge mechanics, had just been brought up on charges to a panel of railroad executive “experts” and their lawyers to explain why they had refused to certify a bridge as safe for trains to traverse. That bridge was only a few miles from the disaster.
This is very expensive for railroads as they are responsible for keeping the waterays open for commercial and leisure craft. I may not have the technical terms for the hazard, but essentially, the giant pins that held the railroad bed to the drawbridge had been installed upside down.
My dad had told us it was unsafe to travel that train corridor.
Those men were threatened with their jobs, fines, and disgrace. They lost work and wages, but held their ground and eventually won. I’m still proud of all four of them, though Dad is no longer here.
God bless and keep your Dad & those men with him. Sadly, they seem to be an extinct breed o Man. I miss them.
Thanks. Me too 😔
A little side story to that disaster on I-95 – at least one brave soul managed to stop in time to exit his car and warn oncoming traffic. One driver made a rude gesture to him and disappeared over the edge.
I believe “only” a tractor trailer and two cars plunged over the precipice thanks to that hero.
This guy knows what he’s speaking of, measured and without media or conspiratorial hysteria:
Here’s a thought: Trump steps in and pulls in all his contractor favors and gets this cleaned up and rebuilt in short order, with Trump International heading up the work. He’s done it in the past, 9/11 being one example. This is assuming the government “help” stay out of the way and let the private sector operate without impediment.
Pothole Pete has had lots of accidents with the transportation in the U.S.
Awaiting Petey’s “presser” to tell everyone “this entire tragic event will be fully investigated for root cause and get those responsible” (luckily the NTSB is still pretty decent). He’ll somehow fit into the bloviation “caused by globalwarmingcoolingclimatechange”. The guy is a moron do-nothing. Likely this was a pure accident due to system failure, albeit maybe maintenance records will show something.
OSHA has existed a long time, but guys still get hurt on the job site, sometimes because of their own stupidity, or simply poor safety protocols. Oftentimes it’s a true accident. Nonetheless OSHA will come down on the GC like a ton of bricks, often adding nothing to the equation but fines (of course, sometimes that’s appropriate). One-sized hammer fits all is the government procedure, no leeway…ever.
Little Petey BootyCakes will no doubt blame the bridge, stating that since it was named after a white man….that the bridge was racist.
Pete will come out and cry racism caused the accident.
Watch him say left side of boat and right side of boat rather than port and starboard.
Ha! I was walking down the street last Friday afternoon right next to Buttigieg.
Take a hot shower with lots of soap afterwards?
He has been a complete disaster. Planes and trains aren’t doing too well either. Glad I don’t fly for work anymore
The powers that be had divvied up the spoils of this golden opportunity 5 seconds after the bridge fell. No way would they let Trump be involved.
Saw that…never let an accident or tragedy go to waste. Attention hounds and panderers just like they were back in High School (aka. most likely to get stuffed into a locker during gym class because they annoyed everyone around them).
Earlier I heard the police chief speak, he’s the only one not pandering…factual, well spoken, brief…professional.
add skating rink to bridge rooftop!
I was referred to him this morning. It’s a good site, and the comment chain is interesting.
“… Ship loosing control after loosing power” statement at the end of the video CONTRADICTS something this guy said at the beginning of this video.
The ship DID NOT veer OFF its original course in the OUTBOUND Channel until the crew tried to REVERSE or BACK the propeller, when power was restored.
The ship HAD RUDDER Control …. so it could of stayed on it’s original course … if the propeller NOT been reversed.
This is either deliberate or the Bridge Crew panicked.
Bet a donut there were some recent DEI hires on this cargo ship who know all about boats from playing with them in their baths at age 4.
Yikes……….
It’ll be interesting what the investigation reveals, operator error is not high on my list because no one commenting (myself included) was there and can know what the crew were up against. However, could one of a handful of reasons things transpired as they did.
One of the worst questions a mariner can be asked – “Where were you when the ship hit the span?”.
Humor aside was a Port of Baltimore Plot in charge at the time? Experience? Qualifications?
And, what was the cause of the loss of power? Could the ship have maneuvered otherwise?
Those will be among the things being investigated.
Thoughts and prayers to the families of those killed in this tragic incident.
Amen Bill Amen
Not much in the news about Trump’s successes yesterday. Add the FBLie telling us that it was an accident means they created another black swan event.
Spent several years in the US Navy. When a ship leaves port there is a Harbor Master pilot that drives/steers the ship until the ship clears the harbor area and bridges. Also there are tug boat escorts to be sure the ship stays on course. I saw no tug boats in the video. Also the video that is the first one shown on this web site shows the ship apparently on the correct course and then when coming close to the bridge you see the ship change course so as to cause it to run into the bridge, watch the stern begin to turn right before hitting the bridge. CLEARLY something is very wrong here.
Watch the video I posted above, he states tugs were not required at this point, also says losing power is never what you want as control is gone. They ‘mayday’d” a minute or so before collision about power loss to warn the bridge crew working. My guess we’ll find out it was an odd unforeseen power system failure. Tragic for those who succumbed without much warning.
Wouldn’t the ship have been blasting their horn as well ? I didn’t hear anything. Maybe there was a horn blast but I don’t know.
All the ships running lights flash. Makes me wonder if they had a catastrophic power failure. Seems to be moving quite fast for its location. Thoughts on that?
Apparently 10-12 knots reduced to 7.6 knots (or so), looks like that smokestack belch was engine reversal to slow momentum, which isn’t easy with this 1000ft ship fully loaded and under full (?) power to move out. Side winds are apparently a normal thing there, but the HD video shows a fairly calm water surface, could be a stuck rudder (again, loss of power=loss of control).NTSB will grab the ships data logger (or whatever it’s called).
They had been going for ~30 minutes so they were maybe up to 10-12 knots. This is considered minimum steering speed. Nothing unsafe about any of this.
If they lose power they lose steering. They were too close to the bridge to prevent an accident. Of course backing down didn’t help them.
Possibly reversed with rudder in the wrong direction. I’m no expert, but would think rudder should be to starboard to try to kick the prow to port. Loaded vessel this size, all probably futile in the short distance available.
Had a lot of fun in Bawlmer back in the 70s. Sad what Demonrats have done to her.
On tin-can sized warships we would in the harbor be at 1/3rd bell (5 kts) so no wake. Once in the entrance channel probably 2/3rds (10 kt). What I remember for example in Elizabeth River by D&S Piers / NOB 5 kts but by Thimble Shoals 10. Of course USN demanded that Hampton Roads be a tunnel not a bridge just to preclude this sort of thing.
Loss of electrical power shouldn’t cause the main propulsion diesel to shutdown. I’m assuming the engine controls are battery-backed, and most important fuel/lube oil / cooling water pumps are engine-driven, with supply available for loss of ship service electrical power until emergency power kicks in.
On a single screw ship, the stern does have a tendency to “walk”, depending on direction the screw is turning. Twin screw ships the shafts turn in opposite directions to counter this effect. A container ship with full load does have tremendous “sail area” and it doesn’t take much wind to affect things, but a lot depends on how the sail area is in relation to center of gravity (push more on bow, stern, or about equal).
The Navy is a special case. They have a history of causing problems 🙄
Sorry, but I was qualed Officer of the Deck – Fleet Steaming and no pilot drives/steers a navy warship, except in the Panama Canal. I’ve had tugs come along on the way in. Typically the CO would let the pilot manage the tugs. We would tell the pilot how we wanted the tugs made up — typically a head line to the cleat in front of the superstructure. I did do a “dead stick” change of pier once where we made up the tug in a “Chinese moor” (tug “backwards” with lines from both bow and stern ). Of course, now the navy has out-sourced all the harbor tugs so no more experienced sailors on the YTBs.
Interested in no discussion of bow thrusters on that ship. In my time the FFG-7 class had them but that was it.
3 words came to mind when they said Baltimore, MD: Rod, Rosenstein & Intentional.🤷🏻♀️
Looks like they lost power??? All the lights go out, then back on, then out again. Seems like it was going awfully fast approaching the bridge. Weird. Thank goodness, I suppose, it was not when the bridge was full of cars.
Yes, they lost power, so the smaller, electric powered engines on the bow, that are used in leaving ports like this, quit.
Where were the pilot boats required to enter and exit the harbor? I could not see them in the videos.
WHERE WERE The TUGBOATS ?
They weren’t required.
Not used after ship is underway on own power out in channel.
It was outbound. No pilot boat or tug required.
Actually, pilot on through this bridge, then he disembarks and ship on its own through lower Chesepeake bay 😉
(From intel on Agenda Free stream from USCG contact or source).
No tugs required as when the last lines thrown at dock, the tugs assist in getting vessel turned into channel then are done.

I bet we’ll see a new rule from the Feds that stipulates a minimum of 2 tug assist boats ( one fore , one aft) , with lines attached until the vessel is in open waters. Tractor tugs with a minimum of 6,000 hp
With the supports being so close to the ship channel track, they probably should have had large diversion fenders on the supports themselves. Large concrete ovals filled with riprap to divert a ship away from the supports themselves.
on some videos there are circular structures in front of the bridge pylons a good distance away from the bridge. The ship avoided them coming in at an angle.
You can see the one they avoided to the starboard of the ship. Untouched.
There are also larger structures further away and farther apart. They have towers on them, maybe providing lighting? And have a protective ring.
Why? Do you advocate that for every bridge?
Next we’ll require tugs to their destination.
I was mistaken when I wrote the only thing left of economic value in Baltimore other than the port was the hospital.
There’s the sugar refinery.

But now it has only 6 to 8 weeks of sugar supplies left, and no way to ship in the raw product

This video is interesting, and may answer some questions…better than what fbi has to say:
GNanny12345: Sal is an expert naval commentator. He knows what he’s talking about.
Accidents happen. In this case the laws of physics played out. The ships momentum over powered the support beam’s ability to withstand the collision.
For some reason, I’m thinking about Mitch McConnell’s sister-in-law, who died last month. I remember reading that she was CEO of a shipping company.
Angela Chao, a shipping industry CEO and sister-in-law to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, was intoxicated when she drove into a pond and died last month in Texas, according to a law enforcement report released Wednesday.
https://www.mcall.com/2024/03/20/angela-chao-mitch-mcconnells-sister-in-law-was-drunk-when-she-drove-into-pond-police-say/
She was, Chinese. Billionaire. Was at her Texas ranch with her Manhattan friends having “a good time”, got into her Tesla to drive back to the main house (vs. The Inn where the friends were staying on the ranch), accidentally put it in reverse instead of drive (3x legal limit alcohol level will do that to a person), but had this problem before. Went into a pond, yet had the “time” to call/text her friends screaming for help as she was sinking (not, mind you, get out and swim to the surface…but…call for help). Drowned (RIP). Wealthy does not make you smart.
When you have a car with electric windows, door locks, etc. nothing works in water. She couldn’t get out unless she had an effective window breaker device/seat belt cutter. Also, since 2017, film (lamination) is being put in windshields & in some driver/passenger windows. These windows do not break like tempered glass. You would have to get out of back windows. The film is to keep people from being thrown out of the car, but makes them deadly in water. An instructive video:
Correct…every seat headrest has points on the stems for this exact reason. She was seriously addled so wasn’t thinking clearly despite the sobering situation. Headrests are quick to extract unless you have the ‘not 3x limit drunk” to locate the tool, assuming one existed (I’d keep mine in the door pocket).
If memory serves Teslas have manual door release latches on the inside for emergencies.
Also, apparently the electric systems manage to work OK submerged, as an experiment by a drag and drive Tesla owner tried with his Plaid proved out after completing a week of driving and racing with it towing a generator behind it to keep it charged.
Here’s a screenshot from the video he posted… I think it got a bit deeper than that but there was still room for him to breathe.
Considering the environment the electrics in the doors are tasked to work in, it would make sense that the motors and switches on the windows and locks would be sealed against moisture. That’s not hard these days. Dealing with an inebriated driver, OTOH, presuming that narrative isn’t a lie, well, that’s hard to engineer for 🙂
Everyone who drives anywhere near water should have a “motorbuddy” or “stinger” window breaker in their car to use in case they ever end up in the water.
They will break your window immediately, allowing you to get out asap.
But, as the man in the video above teaches us — and you said, Esmeralda — make sure you know what windows are tempered glass and what windows are laminated, since tempered glass will break, but laminated will not.
And front windows are always laminated, so don’t waste your time trying to break the big window in front of you.
Tesla, heavy. Bet it sunk fast.
When we are lied to all the time, conspiracy theories come forward in droves. The biggest problem besides loss of life is the Port of Baltimore will be closed a long time. That will badly affect supply chains in the mid Atlantic.
A bridge in the middle of a huge port with no diverting fenders on the major supports?
Way to go, moron architects.
From Telegram:
Multiple intel sources: Baltimore bridge collapse was an “absolutely brilliant strategic attack” on US critical infrastructure – most likely cyber – & our intel agencies know it. In information warfare terms, they just divided the US along the Mason Dixon line exactly like the Civil War.
Second busiest strategic roadway in the nation for hazardous material now down for 4-5 years – which is how long they say it will take to recover. Bridge was built specifically to move hazardous material – fuel, diesel, propane gas, nitrogen, highly flammable materials, chemicals and oversized cargo that cannot fit in the tunnels – that supply chain now crippled.
Make no mistake: this was an extraordinary attack in terms of planning, timing & execution.
The two critical components on that bridge are the two load-bearing pylons on each end, closest to the shore. They are bigger, thicker and deeper than anything else. These are the anchor points and they knew that hitting either one one of them would be a fatal wound to the integrity of the bridge.
Half a mile of bridge went in the river – likely you will have to build a new one. Also caused so much damage to the structural integrity of the bottom concrete part that you cannot see & won’t know until they take the wreckage apart. Structural destruction likely absolute.
Attack perfectly targeted.
“They have figured out how to bring us down. As long as you stay away from the teeth of the US military, you can pick the US apart. We are arrogant and ignorant – lethal combination. Obama said they would fundamentally change America and they did. We are in a free-fall ride on a roller coaster right now – no brakes – just picking up speed.”
The footage shows the cargo ship never got in the approach lane in the channel. You have to be in the channel before you get into that turn. Location was precise/deliberate: chose a bend in the river where you have to slow down and commit yourself – once you are committed in that area there is not enough room to maneuver.
Should have had a harbor pilot to pilot the boat. You are not supposed to traverse any obstacles without the harbor pilot.
They chose a full moon so they would have maximum tidal shift – rise and fall. Brisk flow in that river on a normal day & have had a lot of rain recently so water was already moving along at a good pace.
Hit it with enough kinetic energy to knock the load-bearing pylon out from under the highway – which fatally weakens the span and then 50 percent of the bridge fell into the water.
All these factors when you look at it – this is how you teach people how to do this type of attack and there are so few people left in the system who know this. We have a Junior varsity team on the field.
Tremendous navigational obstruction. Huge logistical nightmare to clean this up. Number of dead is tragic but not the whole measure of the attack.
That kind-of bridge constantly under repair – always at night because there is so much traffic and they cannot obstruct that during the day. So concern is for repair guys who were on foot (out of their vehicles) working who may now be in the water – 48 degrees at most at this time of year.
When you choke off Baltimore you have cut the main north-south hazardous corridor (I95) in half. Now has to go around the city – or go somewhere else.
To move some of that cargo through the tunnel you may be able to get a permit but those are slow to get and require an escort system that is expensive and has to be done at night.
For every $100 dollars that goes into the city, $12 comes from shipping. Believe this will cripple the city of Baltimore at a time when they do not have the resources to recover.
@laralogan
695 Baltimore Beltway adds 70 to 80 miles.
Next nearest chokepoint on the 95 corridor: NYC.
If this is a campaign, the next logical points of attack are the rails through Baltimore, and the NYC bridges, tunnels, and rails.
DC
Remember how the National Guard was deployed to the NYC subway system under the cover of stopping petty crime? I suspected at the time that the real reason was because they are expecting a major terrorist attack.
Well, I won’t be reading “Telegram”. I served on a ship. This was not a terrorist attack, look at the footage. My gosh. Quit with the ridiculousness. If a ship loses “steerage”, their is one option typically and it’s aft steerage. That requires great skill and a well-trained crew using sound powered phones if the power is out. This accident is horrible. That ship had a lot of kinetic energy when it made contact with the bridge pylon. It it were a terrorist attack, why the two power outages? Why not more speed? I mean, come on!
Right? And there WAS a pilot onboard. These BS suppositions.
Dear FBI,
You have zero credibility, so when you say no evidence of a terrorist attack, no one believes you. Chris Wray – this is the cost of repeatedly lying to the country.
For example to your point about fib(s):
to miss exploit (fear monger) an untold preplanned insurrection theme, they integrated a (fake) bomb at dnc headquarters in dc and a loof officers (in on, the gig) stood by as people walked by – yet somehow, after 3 years, they supposedly can not id whom placed the (fake) bomb there… yet years go by in which innocent people are blamed for being in dc on j6?
The cover up, of the (fake) bomb scheme narrative is being uncovered – and a name is known and is employed… (to do what?):

The video appeared to show the pilot of the ship turning into the bridge. That ship was going fast. Maybe we should expect a lot more of these accidents in the next several months to soften us up before the millions of military age illegals go active on us. It’s going to be exciting watching our country grumble.
It’ll take up to TWO YEARS to rebuild a new bridge…and that’s AFTER the design phase.
My husband and I both speculated about the ship (whose destination was Sri Lanka) hitting a support beam (not normally very likely) to disable this bridge in preparation for the attack on America that Kurt Schlichter is certain will be launched across the country at some point (we’ve also both read his newest book “THE ATTACK”. Perhaps other similar types of “accidents” are going to occur to make it even harder for anyone to respond to the coming attacks?
Sometimes, in fact most of the time, a cigar is just a cigar.
Remember when Biden’s government lied about killing terrorist who led Bagram attack that killed 13 US soldiers? Turns out they made that up.
But usually, one might take a few seconds to conduct at least a cursory examination before definitively declaring it to be so and sticking it in one’s mouth.

How long will it take America to get this bridge up and running again, or build a new one? How long did it take the Russians to get Nordstream back up and running?
I can only imagine the sigh of relief from those that just made it across the bridge before the crash.
The Freddie Gray Memorial Bridge will be open by 2029. Built 10x the initial bidding in twice as long. Baltimore is nothing if not fully corrupt.
Given the location, IMO five years would be a good initial estimate. I’ll bet if PDJT gets in it’ll get done in that time or sooner. On time and under budget is his middle name 🙂
Correct. Modern ships that lose all onboard electrical power also lose any ability to steer (via rudders or thrusters). So why did it turn in the first place? Had it kept straight there would have been a much lower risk of collision with bridge supports. Something here is amiss.
Two engineers from a prominent school several years ago proved without a doubt that these tankers can be taken control of and the bridge has no idea.
They took control of the tanker in the Pacific and drove it in circles and the crew and instruments showed they were on their plotted course.
Where were the Harbor pilots that are required in all ports for these foreign nationals who only know how to point and can’t dock without tugs ?

Trust God. Fear not.
Excellent blog by ship’s captains: https://forum.gcaptain.com/t/very-sad-breaking-news-out-of-baltimore-yet-another-allision-m-v-dali/68913/7
Praying for the missing.
EXCELLENT THREAD With PROFESSIONALS ( allegedly ) giving their Experiences as Mariners working in Baltimore Harbor.
Yes, very informative thread. Among other things I learned that ALLISION is running into an object (like a bridge piling) and COLLISION is running into another vessel.
Wow!!! All that maritime experience and years spent working in the Baltimore Harbor. They are speculating it was some kind of “hydrodynamic sheer effect”, where the water pressure differentials and momentum predominate over the ship’s rudder system because of the insufficient speed in the direction of traverse.
Something like this:
I can’t comment about whether they are correct, but so far I have not seen them mention sabotage or hacking etc. And the only kind of experience that I have had similar to this is with boat trailers and towing.
Thanks for posting, worth keeping an eye on !!!
🙏🙏🙏
Prayers.
And thankful that this
did not happen during
rush hour.
Sabotage at every angle and call it incompetence. Biden is the perfect foil.
WAS IT AN “ACCIDENT?” Lara Logan Intel Sources Claim Baltimore Bridge Collapse On “Second busiest strategic roadway for hazardous materials” Was “absolutely brilliant strategic attack”
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/03/was-it-accident-lara-logan-intel-sources-claim/
Curious as to cargo?
What did it consist of?
Look at the picture from this morning.
“I spoke to a US Navy Vet, who was a navigation specialist.
He shared some interesting facts with me…
He says once a ship like that loses power, it loses nearly all ability to steer. And definitely not enough to steer off the way it did. He believes it was intentional.”
(more in tweet)
How hard would this be to duplicate. I know… but.. .. the engine stops working right as the ship is pointed to large bridge or other important infrastructure. Kinda suspicious. I expect to see more and more accidents….. Good time to cut off NYC truck deliveries till they learn to play nice with and ditch Litisha and other corrupt fools trying to put an X president in jail.
“Multiple intel sources: Baltimore bridge collapse was an “absolutely brilliant strategic attack” on US critical infrastructure – most likely cyber – & our intel agencies know it.
(much more in tweet):
Don’t rule out sabotage.
The Francis Scott Bridge was named for the writer of The Star Spangled-Banner.
If you don’t know that, you are not an American. But thanks anyway.
Traffic wasn’t light; one operator saw what was happening and stopped traffic.
I watched the first video and held my breath and then noticed the white glows from cars and 18 wheelers stopped.
Not by accident.
There are folks that do their jobs!!
Fortunately, it wasn’t a DEI hire!!!
Was it an accident? https://www.thegatewaypundit.Com/2024/03/was-it-accident-lara-logan-intel-sources-claim/
Get this! Biden weighing in makes it about himself, AGAIN! Of course, this is the Joe whose own self he doth not know – the fantasy story teller
Biden claims to have taken the TRAIN over the Francis Scott Key bridge!
Says he has been over the bridge “many many times commuting from the state of Delaware either by train or by car.”
Says he’s not taking questions. He’ll visit Baltimore “as quickly as I can.” A year later perhaps? As quickly as East Palestine, Ohio?
Biden speaks around 5:03
I didn’t listen. Did he mention Beau?
Beau died on that bridge.
I’m not saying that this catastrophe was intentional. I lean more towards something breaking down on that ship. I’ve been on 3 ships that had break downs and one of them was a serious steering problem.
In 2021 FJB gave Putin a list of critical infrastructure targets not to attack. https://docs.house.gov/meetings/JU/JU00/20220329/114533/HHRG-117-JU00-20220329-SD008.pdf
I wonder if this bridge was on that list.
Likely the beginning of Russia’s payback for intelligence agencies involvement in last week’s terrorist attack on Russia.
“In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.” ~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Yesterday, the Biden Regime puts their guy, DelBagno in charge…
Today, the attack is perfectly executed. Had to approach from an angle to avoid the “dolphin” which protects the structure…
IT HAS BEGUN…
Biden screaming about how the US govt needs to jump in and completely rebuild the bridge ASAP.
How?
The US govt has no money.
Only OUR ill-gotten taxes.
Don’t build the pier in “Gaza” ….
Well, yes. Why is this country obliged to do that?
What TF happens if the “palestinians” aka hamas, hezbolah, houthis, andthe gutter called Qatar… all Iranian proxies God forbid hit US Navy and Corps of Engineers personnel. What does Zhou Bai-Den do then, send his estrogen loaded soy boy back over to Israel again with more threats? Think Israel, especially Netanyahu who real easily dropped Trump’s name directly after November 2019 finally understands the ONLY ally Israel ever had is Donald Trump?
Considering the USS Liberty, I don’t think Hamas is the biggest risk to our Navy.
The U.S.S. Liberty? Why, what is that? I don’t think I’ve heard of this. What happened?
Look it up.
Don’t play dumb.
Israel intentionally attacked our ship.
A large barge crane that could be used to clear the wreckage is on its way to Gasa
Yes.
I find that very interesting.
Maybe the ship owner(s) ought to pay? If you or I damage something it’s on is to make the aggrieved party whole.
It’s a complex web of ownerships, bottom line is that is a owned by a company out of Hong Kong, so Biden is paying off his Chinese masters again. He has no authority to obligate the US government to pay for the reconstruction of the bridge, by all logic there should be insurance on the bridge, they can subrogate against the principals behind the container ship, who have layers and layers of re-insurance.
Makes sense.
.. But it’s election year
.. and the installed imbecile needs something / anything to hitch his wagon.
The imbecile in chief has a wagon that is on its way over the cliff. A driver-less wagon.
The wagon’s name?
The United States of America.
The disUnited bankrupt demoncratic States of Norte America.
So….???
HOW to disengage, to sever the Feral Reserve Bankster DEBT, institute Constitutional gold/silver money. To Restore our Republic to gut the uniparty demoncrazy of the DC Feral bureaucracy; While maintaining a cohesive Society that keeps the lights on and the food available.
A Trumpian Challenge for sure. We got your back, DJT !!!
BINGO
Typically in Admiralty Law you sue the ship “in rem”.
Lord, don’t I know the drill. I worked as a maritime dispatcher (Marine Exchange-Pilot
Tug dispatch)2 years, then as a deep draft ocean shipping agent for about 4 years.
The layers of ownership: owners agent, charterers agent, subordinate sub-agent considerations(container ships were no fun-HUGE travelling manifests we’d have to deliver (for next us port calls)as we were first port agents). I loathed the container ships due
To the turn and burn schedule. In and out sometimes In 5 hours. As agent, there is a shit ton of
Logistics for every port call: lines, tugs, stevedores, bar/river pilots, super cargo, long shore, stores suppliers and bunker fuel. 20-30 hours of
Phone coordination ever changing with weather delay, port congestion etc.
Then there was that one ship that I was technically agent on, The New Carissa, in Coos Bay, OR.(google it-fun times). But it had not crossed the bar into my stewardship so technically I was not yet its home port agent. We used a sub agent for Coos Bay port calls
So we’d just roll into town with the ships mail and charts and leave it to the sub agents to handle the cargo loading and sailing.
Spent 3 months in a hotel in Coos Bay with all the players staying in same
Hotel in an incident very much the same as this one. Couldn’t speak to anyone but my home office in PDX.
The Master and Chief of
My vessel committed suicide. They were devastated.
In the case of the M/V New Carissa, it was denied a bar pilot-daylight transit, and were told to proceed to the anchor grounds(where the army corp of engineers dumps dredge
Tailings during summer months while
Keeping the channel
Depth maintained) and heave too… they had outrun the storm across the
Pacific @15 days IIRC, only to be denied entry into safe harbor during daylight hours due to a really bad decision by local pilots. Coos Bay now
Has 24 hour pilots but it was the Master’s
Fault
😉
It’s a big club.
Sorry for any typos. Horizontal after another back surgery but this really is my wheelhouse.
Prayers for the back!
I do my best work on my back, built a computer to allow just that.
Insurance should kick in, but Maritime Law can be quirky.
If the crash is deemed an act of terrorism an intentional act, insurance may not apply
There should have been a horbor pilot in the wheelhouse directing the manuvers
There was. Apparently there is nothing any human can effectively do when a ship of that size, weight and moving momentum loses power to her rudder(s). The pilot did radio various emergency locations to get traffic stopped on the bridge. Apparently the working maintenance crews didn’t get the message.
I’m so sick of that unctuous pr**k. All the lying, the cheating, the stealing. The “leaders” of the Democratic party are demons straight out of hades, the lot of them.
As is ‘-R’ who will run a KA-BAR straight up your spine while their “colleagues on the other side of the aisle” spit dead in your face. At least cult Marx doesn’t even try to hide what they’re about. I’ve come to Hate ‘-R’ even more, with a passion. I wonder if Matt Gaetz has any more ideas now because is no more than the other bookend for that crying drunk Boehner, then Ry-Anne, McCarthy, and now the avid bible reader Johnson. These an many others the latest simps Buck and Gallagher shouldn’t be withing 500 miles of an elected seat, and I can prove it. Now, want to move over to the “upper chamber”? >>> Ode of the Cusckservative: MY FATHERS GRAVE, MY DAUGHTERS WOMB, PLEASE TAKE THEM BOTH, AND SEAL MY TOMB.
Something to “campaign” on – he’s got less than nothing else and the Baltimore is perfect for him pander to which his ilk has lied and pandered to since 1965 – after all it’s worked out grrreat for them, no? He can mix in ‘the maga republicans = X’ and of course rayciss™.
It’s BBB again. Build Bridge Back.
Then let Bed Bath Beyond take care of it.
Think Zhou Baiden-Den, (LLC) and his high-estrogen cadre checks the take rates on the 3, 10 (forget the 30) year dotGuv bonds? The Japanese iunsurance companies, UK and the EU-Rabian Union aka Brussels ain’t bitin’ too tough lately. Funny money and strange change. Those bonds are running term/s and in addition to the take now have to roll over at signifcantly higher rates than our “allies” swallowed them at. When that music also stops, it’s over. Maybe not the final predicate but damn close. Gold is at an all time high… and the scared money is jumping on GLD proxy (paper). Want to see a classic Cup-Handle chart pattern without some Wall St. Hhahhhvahhhd graduit soy boy’s 10+ page tortured and erroneous “explanation”? Watch the volumes into the close on the WEEKLY chart. Though it’s not a dead lock most people who got in and then OUT adhering to this pattern’s history since 1920, including the mining stocks and physical gold, have done very well. https://research.investors.com/stock-quotes/nyse-spdr-gold-shares-gld.htm
Glad my SPDRs are safe and sound on the other side of the pond.
The container ship didn’t have insurance?
there needs to be barges with three hundred ton cranes heading out there tomorrow to clear that port. tomorrow.
How loud would that moron be screaming for help from the US government if this happened instead in Port Arthur, TX 🤔
Our ill-gotten taxes don’t even begin to cover what they spend. Mostly it is ill-advised debt.
