I now consider my former patriotism as akin to idolatry. My faith in our leaders did not well serve the church or the nation. I failed both, I am ashamed, yet forgiven.
I would add that big tent “Grahamism” was crafted to keep Christian’s OUT of public affairs. Graham was popular with the world. I don’t recall him taking a lot of incoming fire( if they hate me, they will hate you). Many will disagree, I understand this is difficult to accept. I ask these questions after a decade of contemplating the state of the Church and the nation which are had to separate. Ask yourself, 60 years later is the church and the nation better off? Today, July 12, marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Henry David Thoreau, known best for chronicling his experiment in simple and self-sufficient living in Walden. Less remembered, however, is that while living at Walden Pond, he gave an 1848 lecture on “Resistance to Civil Government”— since published as Civil Disobedience—which had much farther reaching effects. The book helped inspire the World War II resistance, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, those struggling against apartheid, and others. And it still has much to say today, if we will listen.

It’s about time people in other states get to realize what people in Texas have put up with for decades. No one is even talking about what the border ranches have to and have had to endure, the cutting of their fences, breaking into their homes and barns and stealing everything they can take away. And that in no way discounts the mountains of litter, trash and debris these locusts leave behind them. Heck, they even leave their own dead behind. I am Happy to hear that northern states are starting to actually feel what they have poo-pooed for the border states. I can’t wait for your property taxes to double so you can support the free medical, food tamps, schooling (because you will need 2 teachers/class for non speaky students) and free housing. Oh, and the driving skills of illegals is horrendous if they even bother to get a license. Study Find Nearly 3-in-5 Illegal Alien Households Are on Taxpayer-Funded Welfare
A recent analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals that nearly 60 percent of households led by illegal immigrants use some form of welfare, while about 52 percent of households led by legal immigrants also use welfare, compared to fewer than 40 percent of native-born American households.
The study highlights that immigrant-led households use more food stamps, Medicaid benefits, and the Earned Income Tax Credit than native-born households.
The report comes as the foreign-born population in the U.S. reaches record highs under President Joe Biden, with an increase of 4.5 million since January 2021.

These reports give a good feel for the give and take between the two sides. In general Russia is making offensive attacks. Sometimes these attacks are repelled. Sometimes after gaining new ground a counterattack takes the ground back, but gradually Russia is gaining ground and tactically outflanking Ukrainian defensive positions.
Ukraine couldn’t make this type of progress on their past big offensive. But the Russian progress is gradual, not major blitzkrieg. And Ukraine is still capable of fighting. The gradual tactical gains are accumulating into strategic out flanking which may lead to a couple Ukrainian defensive positions being abandoned. Until that happens, we are going to still hear about fighting in the same major locations that we have been hearing about for months.
One of the vids mentioned that Ukraine has significant numbers of forces defending against possible attacks from Belarus or from Poland! But that major defensive works are being constructed so that fewer troops can hold these lines and the rest be used against Russia.

As 2023 closes (AKA:1984), it’s a good time for a year in review. So I interwebbed what my corporate masters wanted me to remember, it was good for a laugh. Obviously I had missed the importance of many things.

Concerning corruption in the former Russian Communist Empire:
The long-term effects from Communism’s moral wreckage in Eastern Europe during most of the Twentieth Century have not been sufficiently appreciated.
Religion, from what I can tell, even after the fall of Communism in 1989, has not recovered very much. Putin’s support of the Russian Orthodox Church seems not to have helped, given that the former KGB officer is himself a corrupt and murderous dictator.
Other countries which have embraced Socialism/Leftism, e.g. Greece, have seen a decline in basic morality. Greeks have told me that few people trust one another, except for the very closest family members, as immorality of all kinds is now part of that society. Cheating, theft – petty and more major theft, lying, according to my sources, are rampant.
On the other hand, we also see here in America the wreckage from decades of cultural Communism in the schools, media, businesses,government, etc.
Many churches are closing down, crime is up in big cities, drug use is up and rising, and not just from illegal immigrants.
So, one can understand why nearly a hundred years of atheistic Communism/Leftism will leave a heritage of Corruption throughout a country like the Ukraine.

I’ll tell you:
Because the political Left has finally managed to embarrass itself with a “lawfare” gambit so nakedly fatuous that it exposes the faction’s drive to destroy the election process, and with it our country. [Nah, most people don’t pay attention anyway and those who vote Dimocrat don’t mind lawfare at all, no matter how absurd – W]
This is what you get from a regime that faked its way to power and now must strain to cover up its long train of crimes, abuses, and effronteries to common sense, while running out of tricks to keep fooling even its own deranged followers. Somehow, the act of kicking a leading candidate off the ballot has finally registered as inconsistent with “defending our democracy.”
Of course, the reckless abuse of law — “lawfare” — proceeds from the Left’s disrespect for boundaries and limits, which is exactly what law in principle concerns itself with.
And from there it’s a quick leap into totalizing bad faith, the operating system for government under an imposter president, “Joe Biden.” Suddenly, mere days before Christmas, when the people want to be preoccupied with things other than politics [the vast majority of them are because this is an attention deficit society – W], events merge explosively to shape the fate of the nation.
In a sane world, the US Supreme Court would not just summarily strike down the Colorado ruling, but would issue a career-ending rebuke to the brain-damaged state justices who managed to not learn a basic principle of due process: innocent until proven guilty – that to brand someone a criminal, there must be a record of indictment and conviction for a particular crime, and that, in the case of Mr. Trump, a politically-motived fairy tale about an “insurrection” doesn’t cut it.

A report by the Center for Immigration Studies unveiled that 59 percent of households led by illegal immigrants use at least one major taxpayer-funded welfare program, far higher than the 39 percent of U.S.-born households.
Authored by CIS analysts Steven Camarota and Karen Zeigler, the study relied on newly released data from the 2022 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), shedding light on the burden carried by U.S. taxpayers by illegal immigration.
Government-funded social programs typically are not offered to illegal aliens. However, those with children born in the U.S. can bypass these restrictions by accessing benefits provided to their children, CIS reported.

I’m reminded of that by your post because I see a lot of politicians at state and federal levels wanting Texas’ problems to belong to Texas when it suits them.
If the ilegal border-crossers are a state issue, then Texas gets to handle it as they see fit, and people like AOC need to stay out of it. If it’s a federal issue, then get them out of Texas.

Back in the mix are Stephen Miller, the conservative policy aide who served in the White House, and Steve Bannon, Trump’s ousted former chief strategist, whose podcast has vaulted him to the center of the populist universe and back into Trump’s graces.
There’s also Ric Grenell, Trump’s former U.S. ambassador to Germany, who is often spotted on the road with him these days, and Kash Patel, a former top Defense Department official. Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host whose prime-time polemics drew blockbuster ratings, is another influential voice.
Patel, in response, told NBC News, “President Trump surrounds himself with the brightest minds in the country and will bring back policies that will make our failing nation prosperous again.”
Bannon has been using his streaming show, “War Room,” to hint at what policies could come from a second term of a Trump administration. Patel recently suggested on Bannon’s show that Trump could use the power of the federal government to target his political and media enemies.
Bannon’s show and the points he’s making on it about a future Trump administration are being taken seriously by top Republican Party donors who are now regularly watching the program, believing that at least some of the things he’s saying could happen if Trump regains power, according to a longtime party fundraiser.
Miller, the mastermind behind some of Trump’s most hard-line immigration policies, is working remotely with the policy and speechwriting teams, a source close to Trump said.
Trump is also speaking regularly with his first campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who was ousted just one month before the Republican Party’s nominating convention in 2016.

A Monmouth University poll released Monday has revealed Americans’ least favorite leader in Congress, but all maintain underwater approval ratings.
According to the poll, just 6% of adults say they approve of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s, R-Ky., job performance, with a whopping 60% saying they disapprove. 34% had no opinion.
McConnell was the only congressional leader with a net negative approval rating from within his own party, and fell far behind his Democrat and Republican colleagues on how they are viewed by the American public.
