Recent years have been a massive challenge and too many Australians are battling. I know that because of our resilience, we’re often called “Aussie Battlers”, yet not everyone is looking forward to the Christmas break.
With cost of living, housing pressures and homelessness, many can’t afford to celebrate. Australian families are hurting and some people are still confronting loss and grief.
We’re entering a time for reflection. A time to take stock, to acknowledge endings and as we move into 2024, to welcome new beginnings.
It’s hard to believe 5 years have passed since 2019 – the last Christmas without tyranny breathing down our necks. Together we will meet the New Year, restored and ready to face the next challenges, stronger and more determined than ever.
While there may be challenges now, I have an unshakeable faith the truth will always win in the long run and we can restore a bountiful, prosperous Australia for all.
Christine and I, along with my senate office team, wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and successful New Year. We thank you all for your support over the past year and look forward to serving you in 2024.

Making decorations is cheap, too! Paper and cheap crayons and you’re in business. My fave is making those really long “chains” out of construction paper and hanging them around the whole ceiling of the room, halls, etc. You can make chains that hundreds of feet long if you’ve got a big enough crowd working on it!
One year – in a foreign country that didn’t celebrate Christmas- friends and I made a big, flat, construction paper tree and stuck it the wall. Then we made decorations and “decorated the tree”.

this case made specific reference to issues of “does this apply to the presidency?” even if this case is currently a loser at SCOTUS because there is no conviction, simply getting a ruling that it does, indeed, apply to the presidency (especially from a court dominated by team elephant) would be a HUGE and perhaps under-appreciated win. it’s the kind of square you give up without realizing it will lose you the game.jack smith has donald in court. what if he were, once this ruling of applicability were settled, to file a superseding indictment with insurrection/rebellion charges. it becomes a sort of “fool’s mate.” if you skate on a framing of “this could have applied to you, but did not because you were not charged and convicted” you might think you won, but in fact, you just got set up for a sucker punch that will take you out entirely.

The KEY point in this lawfare strategy is TIMING, just like the Gen Flynn case, where they HAD him plead guilty, and therefore COULD have sentenced him at anytime, but delayed it in ordervto be able to have a manufactured “Oct. Surprise” with headlines, just before the 2020 election of “Trumps Natl. Security advisor sentenced after pleading guilty”.
And of coarse it was their delaying it for max impact that enabled Sidney Powell to go in and “queer” the pitch.
Now, Smith wants the trial to start just as the Primaries are kicking off, to (he hopes) lower PDJT’s support, and along with the inter-related 14A3 cases, build the narrative of excuses for Convention delegates to not cast their ballots for PDJT, and so the RNC to not give PDJT the nomination.
Because the Judge put the case on indefinite hold, UNTIL this issue of Presidential immunity is resolved, in order for Smith to get his timing, he had no choice but to try the end run directly to SCOTUS.
Basically, his ploy has already been foiled, as taking this ? of Immunity up through the Courts will take “too long” from Smiths point of view, and even IF the ? was resolved in his favor (spoiler alert, it WON”T be!) it would be ‘too late’ as the primaries will be largely over.
And no, there is no 8d chess on Smiths part, there is the “plate spinner” reaching the inevitable point in the performance where he has too many plates spinning, to be able to keep them all spinning, and they crockery starts to fall and shatter.
In short, they shouldn’t hear Smiffy at all. He’s as or more illegitimate as those pushing his agenda. Looking forward to his disqualification and possible sanctions against him and those who attempted to appoint him.

A Black Swan cannot be predicted because it is so rare, so improbable, with unexpected consequences.
A dictator being toppled is not a rare occurrence, nor is it improbable. There could be unexpected consequences: e.g. when the Czar and his family were murdered by the Communists, their regime turned out to be WORSE than life under the czars.

As seen in a recent report from Politico, there is a surge of new defense agreements between the U.S. and northern European countries that will allow for the deployment of American troops to be fast-tracked. This development is part of a trend in which European nations are hedging against the possibility of an attack from Russia, with other measures including the restocking of arsenals and the sending of weapons to Ukraine.
Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are the six countries that this month signed multi-year pacts with the United States allowing American troops to operate within their borders for training missions and eliminating red tape so that military personnel and equipment can more speedily be sent to those nations during emergencies.
Charly Salonius-Pasternak, a leading researcher at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, told Politico of the new pacts: “This allows the U.S. to say: This entire region is one defense region. How can we work together, both in planning, exercises, deterrence operations? Now you can do it all in a rational way, rather than having to say — we can’t refuel in Sweden.”

(2) Unaffiliated voters can vote in the GOP primary. But if an unaffiliated vote had previously voted in a primary and forgot to change back to unaffiliated afterward then they are no longer unaffiliated and couldn’t vote in the 2024 primrary.

(3) In NH someone who has never registered to vote can register for the first time same day in person.
Take away –It’s possible for crossover votes, but only with unaffiliated voters who remembered to change back to unaffliated if they previously voted in a Dem or GOP primary in the past. Registered Dems cannot wake up tomorrow and decide to vote for a GOP candidate.

During a meeting on December 21 with his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin declared that Western currencies have almost been completely eliminated for Russia-China trade, as nearly all payments between the countries are now conducted in rubles and yuan.
The Russian PM made these remarks during a two-day visit to Beijing for a scheduled meeting of Russian and Chinese heads of government.
“We continue to increase the share of national currencies in mutual settlements. If in 2020 this figure was about 20%, then this year we have actually completely gotten rid of the currencies of third countries in mutual settlements,” Mishustin disclosed.
He also highlighted boosting business relations, recalling that a joint business forum organized in Shanghai in May attracted more than 1,500 entrepreneurs from both countries.
“We are creating comfortable conditions for the work of commercial firms on the Russian and Chinese markets. We have an extensive joint agenda,” Mishustin proclaimed.
For his part, Li Qiang pointed out that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing continues to be on the rise and is becoming increasingly significant against the backdrop of “global turbulence.”
Russia and its trade partners have started to use alternative currencies in mutual trade after sanctions effectively denied Moscow access to the Western financial system. A rising number of nations are likewise resorting to national currency settlements in trade.

Colin Flaherty used to interview prison psychologist Marlon Newburn, who IIRC reportedly observed that crime appeared to be a preferred lifestyle for many of those who were repeat offenders rather than a mark of desperation for those with no other options.
