Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy announced in a Wall Street Journal op-ed [SEE HERE] that he is leaving congress at the end of this year and will not seek reelection.
This announcement follows significant sunlight upon the GOPe wing of the DC Uniparty, as the big ugly battle between the voting base and the detached professional Republican apparatus rages on. Based on policy advocacy and votes registered, there are approximately 100 establishment GOP House Republicans, who represent DC interests, and approximately 100 Republicans in the House who honor the representative wishes of their constituents. It is a pretty even split.
Despite that 50/50 reality, the pragmatic conservative base, the America-First MAGA movement, is in far better shape than ever before. Having slightly more than half of the Republican House representing the people is significantly more than in the past 20 years. Thanks to the sunlight provided by Donald Trump, we have made progress. Here’s McCarthy’s announcement.
(Via Wall Street Journal) – I’m an optimist. How could I not be? I’m the son of a firefighter. For 17 years I’ve served in the same congressional seat—the same office in which I was once denied an internship. Only in America.
I helped lead Republicans to a House majority—twice. We got more Republican women, veterans and minorities elected to Congress at one time than ever before. I remained cheerfully persistent when elected speaker because I knew what we could accomplish.
Even with slim margins in the House, we passed legislation to secure the border, achieve energy independence, reduce crime, hold government accountable and establish a Parents’ Bill of Rights. We did exactly what we said we would do.
We kept our eyes on America’s long-term global challenges by restoring the Intelligence Committee to its original charter and establishing a bipartisan Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
We reduced the deficit by more than $2 trillion, revamped work requirements for adults on the sidelines, cut red tape for critical domestic energy projects, and protected the full faith and credit of the U.S. We kept our government operating and our troops paid while wars broke out around the world.
No matter the odds, or personal cost, we did the right thing. That may seem out of fashion in Washington these days, but delivering results for the American people is still celebrated across the country.
It is in this spirit that I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways. I know my work is only getting started.

McCarthy’s departure represents a significant change in the GOPe apparatus. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to shift the Republican Party back to a party that is focused on America, but it is much improved this year.
On Tuesday, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a former member of House GOP leadership, said he wouldn’t run for re-election, though he will serve out the remainder of his term.
[McCarthy’s] retirement will also kick off a race for his Bakersfield-based district seat, which is solidly red. And there are plenty of ambitious GOP politicians eager for a rare shot at a safe seat. If McCarthy resigns after Friday at 5 p.m., as expected, then Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom can choose whether to call a special election or keep the seat vacant until the next election. He chose the latter in 2020, when former Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) resigned after pleading guilty to misusing campaign funds.
If McCarthy formally steps down before Friday at 5 p.m., then Newsom would have to call the special election due to filing deadline rules. (more)
The Republican party would be light years ahead right now had McCarthy made a deal after winning the house to let a MAGA be in charge. The Rinos could have cut a reasonable power sharing deal and allowed someone who was more ideologically in tune with their voters have a turn. Rather, they leveraged their positions and resources to maintain control at any cost. It took McCarthy and the country another 10 months to figure out that MAGA was not going away. McCarthy was too ambitious to let this happen. He is the last of a line of pre internet, pre social media Speakers that thought he could pull the wool over his constituents heads. It is probably good he got out when he did.

Although free will is implied throughout The Bible, but there are a few places where it is explicitly evident.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13, the apostle Paul wrote: “No temptation has overtaken you, except what is common to man. And God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, will provide a way of escape also so that you will be able to endure it.”
This, is the most powerful evidence of, and the most explicit example of libertarian free will… and, the most difficult-for-determinists-to-get-around passage in the entire Bible.
Paul says that the temptation that afflicts his readers isn’t anything unusual, nothing unique to them. He then goes on to say that God is faithful, and won’t allow the temptation to sin to be so overwhelming that it’s impossible for them to resist it. Instead, God will provide “a way of escape” so that they’ll endure it and ergo avoid sinning. What do children do when they need protection? They run to their fathers for shelter. They go for advice.
Paul is saying here that his readers don’t have to sin. Sin is not inevitable. God provides a way out so that we’ll be able to avoid sin. If we do sin, it’s because we refused to take “the way of escape” that God offered. If we don’t sin, it’s because we chose “the way of escape.”
Faced with A (sin) and Non-A (The Way Of Escape). He can choose either and is responsible for whichever one he chooses. The determinist cannot make sense of this verse. If humans are causally determined to do everything we do, then “the way of escape” was not a possible option for those who sin. “The way of escape” on determinism, was nothing but an illusion!
Only if man truly has the power to genuinely choose between alternatives, can we say that “the way of escape” was a possible option for those who sinned.
Paul is essentially saying in 1 Corinthians 10:13 “Look, you don’t have to sin. You don’t have to. God will provide a way out so you’ll be able to endure it. If you choose not to take His way out, it’s your fault, not God’s.”

My response to McCarthy’s self praise of his performance in office:
He served for 17 years as a congressman after being denied an internship. He didn’t mention the years he served as former congressman Bill Thomas’ chief aide before Thomas quit running for office.
He proudly helped get lots of RINOs get elected. As he said in an LA Times article from about10 years ago, recruiting and grooming future RINO officeholders was close to his heart.
He passed legislation that secured the borders – the same borders that are wide open.
He reduced the deficit by about 2 trillion, the same deficit that is now through the roof.
He restored the IC committee to its original charter but managed to completely ignore the Intelligence agencies weaponization and demonization of all things conservative, including declaring conservatives as domestic terrorists.
He plans to now spend his time recruiting more RINOs and doing everything in his power to make sure elected Republicans completely ignore the priorities of their base. And he will resign in such a way as to give Newsom the power to leave the seat open until the next election, denying his base from having any representation in the congress until after the next election.

Until then, the role was implicitly understood to be: “kingmaker.” Being (rather improbably …) placed in control of what could, and could not, actually be introduced to The Floor for consideration, the Speaker held awesome(!) powers that the Founders probably never contemplated when they simply decided that “each House would determine its own affairs.”
I sincerely hope that the Senate will very soon follow suit. Because, I feel very firmly, “this is what our Founders intended.”

I believe they will let the presidential election play out and keep their hands off. They are working on the elections to which fewer people pay attention.

The Senate will remain communist. They can let PDJT fire whoever he wants but he won’t be able to get any of his appointments through. No Supreme Court confirmations.
