Then why the hell not stage a real attack. An Israeli writer pointed out a few years ago that because of Israel’s size, it’s critical infrastructure is unavoidably vulnerable to conventional missile attack. It usually isn’t an intelligence failure of the kind where there was “no information” but of the kind where some psychological blind-spot created by their ideology or desires caused them to throw out or disregard the information they did have.
For Example: If you have convinced yourself that Hillary is going to be the next POTUS are you really going to publish a poll that shows Trump leading the race? Similarly, the Titanic had numerous iceberg warnings and all of the other ships in the ice-field stopped for the night, but the Titanic increased speed and kept going.

Trapper: I had the exact same thing happen to me TWICE while I was an intel analyst (thankfully on two issues that impacted a region, NOT the world). I was told my analysis was bonkers, would never happen, etc., and since it never tracked with the official narrative that our leaders wanted to present to the president/congress, my analysis never made it into official reports.

The hubris of intelligence analysts and their managers is stunning. The further up the chain a person is, the worse it gets. Heck yeah, another reason this was missed.

I am not sure if this will help or add to the confusion, but I think it is a part of the puzzle:
1] A few months ago China brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Saudi Arabia. We can assume one of the goals of the deal was to eject the United States from the Middle East, similar to Sahel Africa trying to eject the French.
2] Hamas and Hezbollah launched the attack with the approval of Iran, as there is no way they would have acted alone.
3] Iran did this on behalf of Saudi Arabia and the other Arab States that signed the Abraham Accords. Now that Iran and Saudi Arabia are on the same page there is no benefit to normalizing relations with Israel. This war will allow some countries to repudiate the Abraham Accords and will give MBS an excuse for not normalizing relations with Israel.
4] The Obama/Biden administration is anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian and detests Netanyahu. Therefore it must condemn Israel or suffer a civil war in its own party. And once Israel is condemned the United States will have ZERO allies in the Middle East. Furthermore, by taking the Arab side, the United States will be on the same side as Iran, Saudi Arabia, China and Russia… the irony of all ironies. If it does the opposite, it alienates its progressive base and unites the Islamic Middle East against it.
