According to Target Inc. they are closing stores in urban areas in four specific states. The stores Target plans to close will shut their doors on October 21. The stores include the East Harlem location in New York City, two locations in Seattle (WA), three locations in Portland (OR), and three locations in San Francisco and Oakland (CA). {link}
“We cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance,” Target said in a statement. “We know that our stores serve an important role in their communities, but we can only be successful if the working and shopping environment is safe for all.” {LINK}
Remember when all the alerts a few years ago indicated that people should quickly evaluate their proximity and carefully consider relocating away from blue urban areas?

These are not just stores lost, they are jobs lost. Some of these people may have been with these companies for years and worked their way up to management.

Fifty-plus yrs ago I was a Navy wife and would use the Navy Exchange (sort of a down-lo Walmart) and the Commissary (grocery store) on the various military bases where we were stationed. The most important document I carried was my Navy Dependent’s photo i.d. card which allowed you into these facilities, and a lot else, like the housing office and hospitals. More important than a US passport! Had to give it up the day hubby got out of the service.
If government stores are set up in our various urban food deserts, shoppers will have to show some sort of govt i.d., kind of like they do already with the Food Stamp program. So, perhaps these urban outrages are part of the “Smart Cities” plans, just like the fire that destroyed the business district on Maui last month.
ID to buy food? Hell no!
Also, you don’t show Id for foodstamps anymore. Folks just use EBT cards like any other debit card.

In totally unrelated news, Bloomberg reports that they obtained new employment data for 88 of the S&P 100 companies for the year 2021. This was of course the year impacted most by the Floyd/BLM riots. Of the 323,094 people hired in 2021 by those companies, 20,529 went to white people. The rest went to people of color. So about 94% went to POC.
Will the productivity of those companies increase? I suspect their revenue might increase temporarily as they are gifted funds and possibly other benefits for being “anti-racist” by the government and the governments’ NGO clowns. Productivity? Probably not so much.
There will be a lot of Christmas present this year in Oakland. Next year is not looking so rosy.

This reminds me of a case I was involved in where the parents of a 12 year old girl encouraged their daughter to cross a large stream at the top of a waterfall. Imagine their shock as she was swept over the edge by the “shallow” water. She did not survive the fall. Then they turned around to sue the park service because the park service didn’t post any warnings about just how dangerous water is right before a waterfall.
We had a case (still going to trial) where a guy rode a bicycle up onto a sidewalk and hit a pedestrian – causing major injuries to this old gentleman.
The cyclist wasn’t even issued a citation (clarification… there’s a law against riding on the sidewalks in this part of town because of… duh.. the number of people walking on the sidewalk) by the responding officer, and had no financial assets to go after – least of all cover the cost of the care for the individual he injured.
The injured individual sued the agency for damages, and the presiding judge felt that – because there were no signs telling cyclists that it was illegal (never mind, unsafe) to ride on the sidewalk in downtown – that the agency should be fully responsible for the cost of the care for the injured man.
*sigh* I’ve worked as a traffic engineer for nearly 40 years, now. I’m glad to be leaving – in part – by the death of accountability by those who do stupid s#_t on the roads.

Target discovered, about 30 years ago, that the vast majority of their shoppers were women who were looking for bargains in an upscale shopping environment. Mostly, women didn’t like shopping at K-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Walmart, because of unsightly presentation of merchandise and decor. They preferred to shop at Target where they could get fairly cheap prices and a more pleasant shopping experience. While many men were also impressed by the Target experience, they weren’t as likely to get moved off from the more realistic bargain atmosphere of the large discount stores. Target began to target the model of the upscale suburbanite female semi-bargain hunters. After extensive research, Target began to correlate their customers with suburban Democrat voters of literally all sexual persuasions. When the Millennials finally started shopping with mostly their own money, Target had literally hit the target with them.
Enough about Target, they deserve to see their stores ripped off by organized looters, because those people are mainly the people the basic Target shopper wanted to avoid by shopping at Target. Excuse me if I find Target closing stores because of shoplifting to be a little bit of a reward for their greedy targeting of the ‘woke folks’. I live on the outskirts of Portland…my daughter is a cashier for Target…Wal-mart closed all their Portland stores last year due to shoplifting…police are told not to respond…my daughter watches people walk out all day with shopping carts full of stuff without paying…she is told to ignore it and the “security guards” they have are there to make sure nobody “bothers” the shoplifters…Mayor Ted Wheeler, mr.defund the police, is upset that businesses are shutting down and moving out…Nike, Target, Wal-mart, Columbia Sportswear….claims he is disappointed that those businesses are no longer trying to work with his administration to work through these temporary issues. I keep thinking back to the first week that my husband and I moved into our dream house. It was 2009. We had been there not even a year when the large bronze lettering on the entry to our development was stolen.
My husband was visiting countries in Africa during that time and said that it reminded him of the poor towns where after a utility company puts in some kind of metal infrastructure, it get’s ripped out.
That is the big problem I see coming. Our infrastructure destroyed by some kind of looting.
But yet, every single time we see this kind of thing happen, we also DO NOT SEE one Black Leader in this entire country coming out railing against those thugs and encouraging more of his fellow leaders to get involved and put a stop to all this destructive behavior.
