There is a great deal of frustration, righteous frustration about the seriously destabilizing constructs happening around us, combined with almost no corrective action from people in power or influence that can do anything, something, about it.
This leads to the #1 question people ask, “What can I do about it?” The answer is not complex, and consists of two obvious elements:
First, stop pretending.
Second, confront those who rely on our pretending.
OK, great, but what does that look like? I’ll give you some examples.
♦EXAMPLE – Millions of illegal aliens are pouring through the southern border. They don’t impeach Joe Biden over his failure to do his job and “preserve, protect and defend the United States.” Why not? It’s too difficult they say. Well, ok, but here’s an easy approach.
The debt ceiling needs to be raised. Tell the White House the debt ceiling isn’t going to be raised until the border is closed, secured, done! Shut up, and/or just keep repeating that line. When the border is secure, we will raise the debt limit. DONE!
OMG! Horrible Republicans the media cry. Who cares? Don’t move. Response: when the border is secure, we will raise the debt limit!
Then make Biden own the debt default in order to keep the border open.
Well over 70% of the country wants the border secured. Everyone sees the massive influx of illegal aliens. Not even Democrat constituencies want more illegal aliens flooding into their neighborhoods (see Chicago). So, make the debt ceiling conditional on the border closing. PERIOD. Just stop pretending.
Keep it simple. When Customs and Border Patrol tells you the border is secure, then raise the debt ceiling. How frigging hard is this?
It’s not hard. So, stop pretending it is.

♦EXAMPLE – Ron DeSantis walks into a shop, or holds an event. Ask him the big picture questions: Governor, when did you decide to run for the presidency? When all these billionaires and multinational corporations are giving you hundreds of millions of dollars, what do they expect from you? How much did Rupert Murdoch pay you for the advance on your recent book deal? Why was it important for you to seal your travel records? Why did you need the Florida legislature to change the ‘resign to run laws’?
Anticipate the reply, focus the follow-up on a foundational truth. These are not difficult questions, but you never see them asked. Why not? BECAUSE THE PEOPLE HE IS IN CONTACT WITH ARE PRETENDING.
DeSantis is relying on the maintenance of that pretending. Just stop.
♦EXAMPLE – Senator Rubio holds a townhall meeting. Again, ask him the big picture questions: Senator, you are the vice-chairman of the Senate Intel Committee; you are a member of the gang-of-eight. We know from court documents that former Senate Security Director James Wolfe leaked a top secret FISA application, likely at the direction of your chairman Mark Warner. Why have you never called this out? Why do you protect him? Why was James Wolfe never prosecuted for the FISA leak?
You watched FBI Director James Comey testify in March 2017 that he never informed the gang of eight about his previous 11-month investigation of the presidential candidate who was the political opposition of the sitting president; why didn’t you do anything about it?
Why didn’t you ever allow a single recess appointment by President Donald Trump? Why did you go along with Mitch McConnell to block a Republican president?
Again, Marco Rubio sits next to Mark Warner, calls him his “friend across the aisle”, and yet that “friend” is part of the system to destroy our country. Stop letting him pretend, start confronting him. The same applies to all other senators, in all other townhalls.
Start making their lives uncomfortable by asking the obvious questions.
We are in an abusive relationship with government. If you want to stop government from abusing us, then act like they are abusing us!
Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Maria Bartiromo, Fox News, conservative pundits, Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro, conservative websites and political talkers writ large, all of them are continuing this game of pretending. Most of them are all connected to the same financial mechanisms. None of these groups are going to ask any of the obvious questions or hold anyone to account. They all maintain the game of pretending.
There are only a few people, maybe a handful, who are not.

I was very involved in the tea party movement and will never forget those town hall meetings! We were so effective because we showed up in large numbers! We stood together! United! One problem is that the membership of this blog is retired/old. We were educated and educated religiously entirely differently from even our adult children, much less our grandchildren. What we thought they were learning in school was not the reality. Subtly, and then more openly, each generation was misinformed while thinking that they were better informed than we were. Teachers who were moral and patriotic in our youth have been slowly corrupted into Leftists. Government workers being allowed to unionize has made then all beholden to their grossly-inflated salaries and benefits so that they will vote for their pocketbooks instead of the common good; they will “believe” whatever serves their financial interests.
As concerned as we are for the future of the country in which our progeny live, many of us do not have the strength or energy to lead or even attend rallies (I have been to DC in 2009 with the Tea Party, been a precinct committeeman, made calls, donated — all spitting in the wind, it seems).
I can pray, try to be unselfish, speak up when I hear nonsense spoken, but I fear that God may have decided to let the good suffer for the sins of unbelievers. May God have mercy on our beloved country and its majority of well-meaning citizens.
The patriot who remains on our lowest denomination paper currency was in his mid-40’s when leading the charge to birth the new Republic and then served as its President until nearly the year he died in his late 60’s, quite a feat for the 1700’s.
I look at it this way…. no way can I keep up with 20 yo’s in a battlefield sprint; however I have a lifetime of experience and cunning and, as an added plus, my family is dead so I have no ‘loved ones’ to fear for. Only enemies to defeat and destroy.

I’m also reminded of my father, who did leave a wife and two young daughters at a relatively old age, his mid 20’s, to go to Italy to kill Nazis and Fascists. He did have something to live for, did the difficult job, and fortunately survived so my existence could occur.

I work in a school. The majority of my co-workers are left, however, in recent months many of them have expressed concerns especially when it comes to their grandchildren and their futures. They see and know better than most that the test scores are sh*t . After comparing the curriculum of other countries to that of the US they are panicking. There may be a glimmer of hope coming from a most unlikely spot.

We were not asked to be physically confrontational. We were asked to take our knowledge to the front of the battle line. Your local GOP office knows where that is.

Our local GOP officials have already decided the GOP will lose 2024. So I am not waiting for them to come around; I am talking to people about what’s going on and the actions we need to take. The chairman can keep sitting in that do-nothing job; I’m planning to win, because there is no alternative. I want to get people active and make our elections free and fair again, and get people to vote one more time. Of course the other side will not take it lying down (see for instance Arizona 2022) but once people see someone has a plan and is doing something, they join in, and the other side gets overwhelmed.
We have the numbers. What is also lacking besides courage and organization, is awareness and rabid commitment.

There are approximately 7000 elected officials in the country, and in one way or another they appoint other officials. “We” are all the people who don’t like having our neighborhoods invaded, our speech censored, our money devalued, and our children propagandized. “We” must be at least 200 million.
Not all 200 million need courage, we just need to follow someone who has courage. All the organization we need is to find those leaders (Sundance would be one) and get those around us listening to those leaders, by pointing out the problems and pointing to the trustworthy people. (You don’t have to tell people the old media is untrustworthy. They already know that, they just don’t know whom to trust instead.)

You’re right; I guess I was thinking of state level and up. But the point is even if you consider every level elected officials are a very small fraction of all of us.
Under 500 at the federal level (Congress, President)
At my state level, around 100 (governor, legislature, judges), so 50 x 100 = 5000
At my county level, around 10 (county council, county clerk , coroner, judges who I can’t remember if they’re elected or appointed) so 10 X 3500ish counties in the country = 35,000
At my town level, around 10 (city council, probably other positions like dogcatcher) so 10 x 5ish cities in the county x 3500ish counties = 175,000
School board level is similar density to city council, but divided up differently, so say another 175,000
So a total of 390,000ish out of 300,000,000ish Americans.
Something like 1% of us are elected officials, with around 1% of those being state level or above. The local officials are much more responsive even with rigged elections because they have to meet you in the grocery store, the library, at your kid’s soccer game, etc. and so they are much more responsive to the sense that the community hates them.
My Rep. Nancy Mace is worthless on the border issue. I’ve been on a townhall call with her and she blew it off as some Haitians coming here. That was 5 million illegal invaders ago!

I sent my questions to Representative Chuck Edwards District 11 North Carolina. In addition I sent a list to my Local Republican Party headquarters.
The questions to be asked are:
1. Why not withhold any debt limit increase until Border invasion is stopped and wall is completed. Tie the border issue to the immigration issue.
2. Why do we still have Voting machines and early voting when the fraud can be eliminated by having Paper ballots counted by supervised humans cast on election day at least for major Federal offices and State offices.
3. Representative do you support MAGA movement in the party? If you do why don’t you speak up about reform of the Republican Party Business model (Private business part of the Uniparty) that will bring MAGA into party reform making the party represent the people and not the big business, wallstreet and Chamber of Commerce interest.
Don’t hold your breath thinking the republicans are going to do anything of merit to quell this invasion. Unfortunately they are part of the problem.

Sundance, while your advice is outstanding in its premise, you leave out the requirement for it being even marginally effective. The missing element(s) is/are, the elected official whom you’re challenging has to, (1) be smart enough to connect the dots, (2) actually care, and (3) the really big one, consider you, i.e., their constituents to be relevant. The sad fact is that politicians have been allowed to evolve into a caste system which is so far above us little people that we can’t begin to actually request much less require them to do anything. They are near gods….us mere mortals, if even that! This attitude of supreme superiority which ALL of them possess in spades, was superbly characterized by George Carlin with his statement, “it’s a big club and you ain’t in it!” Plain talk is easily understood.

If we were dealing with common sense/logic, you would be correct but I keep coming back to an incident which I’ve chronicled before that occurred several years back while I was still an international airline captain.
Briefly, I had a group of about a dozen congress critters on my plane who were going to Israel for some reason. We were delayed and in an attempt to mollify several hundred passengers which had already been boarded, I made an announcement which invited whomever wanted to visit/look at the cockpit. It was then that I learned that I had a rather large group from both houses of congress. I’m not shy and they were on MY airplane so I managed to corral about 8-10 of them in the forward galley for a question and answer/political discussion. Two of my questions stick in my mind as proof of their complete disregard for the responsibilities they requested and their complete narcissism. First I related that as a young man I had held up my right hand and sworn an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, pointing out it was the exact same oath that they had sworn. I further stated that I knew that the oath included the forfeiture of my life if necessary. I asked them IF they would be willing to sacrifice their lives to protect the Constitution, either literally.or figuratively, i.e., their political “lives” to stand for the principle of the Constitution? One congressman took the lead and said, “I’d have to think about that!” I’ll omit my response here but that should be enough for you to get their priorities. The second question was, “how does a legislator who makes 175K per year, manage to retire worth tens of millions?” A senator jumped on this one and stated, “that’s probably something we should look into!”
So you see, they are separated from us little people. Nothing matters but their tenure and the continued ride on the gravy train which we stupidly provide with no questions asked or accountability required or provided. We’re not in the “big club” and therefore we don’t matter. Sadly, the country/nation will be lost as a result of our apathy and their narcissism.
You have a point on the federal level. But on the local level I’ve seen this work. I’m not sure local officials have any less narcissism, but I saw a local school board completely backtrack within hours, after being very publicly embarrassed. Yes they did retaliate (it mostly misfired), and yes the same ones are still in office, but we know now where their pain point is, and they know we know.

When we call the Senate Intel Committee “the gang-of-eight” what is that saying to you? A “gang” is an organized group of individuals engaged in illegal behavior and activity. The truth is right in front of us. Why do we accept that this self-defined gang calling themselves the Senate Intel Committee is anything other than an organized group of criminals?

It really gets me when Hussein is out comparing gun ownership to seatbelts in automobiles. Meaning if we can force people to buckle up to save lives , then we can force regulations on guns to save lives.

I have no direct contact with any of the people mentioned in this article. Those that do will never ask the pertinent questions, too much to los e. Here’s how I have personally answered the question, ” what can I do?”
I will not pretend with family or friends, I will not pretend with casual acquaintances. When something is wrong, or contrary to what I know to be true I call it out. Being the patriarch of the family I’m probably afforded some respect simply because of age and experience, but at times it gets contentious.
EXAMPLE; Everyone has an immediate family member, (parent, child, aunt, uncle, cousin, in-law) that is homosexual. I believe it’s unnatural. If a person in my family practices homosexuality and everyone knows that they do; then if they keep it to themselves we keep quiet about it. People do all kinds of unhealthy and unnatural things that are none of my business. However, the moment they teach or espouse that it is “normal” or natural I will confront it.
There are tons of issues that we Americans have allowed in the last “few” decades to fester ……never again.
We have to start thinking like Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway.
No one was coming to get him off of that deserted island so he built a raft and got himself off.
If we want to save our country we have to do it our self and not sit around waiting for someone else to do it.
Every little bit helps.
If someone can give me a real-world plan that DOESN’T require a massive effusion of blood, I would like to hear it.

1) Our representatives in government WILL NOT listen to us.

We’ve seen politicians, Republicans, confronted at meetings with a hardball, detailed question. These are almost always achieved at “town hall” meetings, which are not held very much anymore, and usually just by members of the House. Why? They don’t WANT these questions. Senators almost never hold such meetings. When the random event occurs they are becoming selective, scripted and staged with set people asking selective questions.
The really TOUGH questions get waived off as puffy misdirection and quickly forgotten. Mass media is total propaganda. Think ANY media will tackle the TRUTH? What did they just report regarding the evidence of Biden corruption? Oh right, they said there was NO EVIDENCE. Even the best representatives, like Byron Donalds, understand how corrupted and toxic that place is. I’d vote for him as President or Senator in a quick second, but what can one man do? What can President Trump do with NO ALLIES? Heck, even that 2 year drag ass special prosecutor FINALLY issued a report saying the FIB and DOJ were essentially liars and dirty participants via promoting the fake Russia crap.
