Senior VP Bruce Nilson of Red Curve Solutions told me that:
(1) Yes it is possible to bypass WinRed by sending a check. He confirmed that mailing a check to the Arlington, VA PO Box on the contribution form would work fine. (see link at end of my comment)
(2) Mr Nilson explained that all republican candidates use WinRed because the RNC requires it. The RNC attaches significant penalties to a candidate who does not use WinRed.

I am alarmed that if this means President Trump will not have his regular SS detail with him something may be planned to harm him or is it just trying to pile up charges at the same time.
To happen to coordinate an advance on charging President Trump for more nonsense (state and now likely federal charges) is an obvious step in timing.
