Breaking moments ago, the New York Times is reporting that President Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, the sealed indictment will be released in the next few days and the surrender of President Trump to law enforcement in New York City is being worked out.
(NEW YORK TIMES) – A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Donald J. Trump on Thursday for his role in paying hush money to a porn star, according to four people with knowledge of the matter, a historic development that will shake up the 2024 presidential race and forever mark him as the nation’s first former president to face criminal charges.
The felony indictment, filed under seal by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, will likely be announced in the coming days. By then, prosecutors working for the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, will have asked Mr. Trump to surrender and to face arraignment on charges that remain unknown for now.
[..] Mr. Trump has consistently denied all wrongdoing and attacked Mr. Bragg, a Democrat, accusing him of leading a politically motivated prosecution. He has also denied any affair with the porn star, Stormy Daniels, who had been looking to sell her story of a tryst with Mr. Trump during the campaign.
Here’s what else you need to know:
♦ Mr. Bragg and his lawyers will likely attempt to negotiate Mr. Trump’s surrender. If he agrees, it will raise the prospect of a former president, with the Secret Service in tow, being photographed and fingerprinted in the bowels of a New York State courthouse.
♦ The prosecution’s star witness is Michael D. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former fixer who paid the $130,000 to keep Ms. Daniels quiet. Mr. Cohen has said that Mr. Trump directed him to buy Ms. Daniels’s silence, and that Mr. Trump and his family business, the Trump Organization, helped cover the whole thing up. The company’s internal records falsely identified the reimbursements as legal expenses, which helped conceal the purpose of the payments.
♦ Although the specific charges remain unknown, Mr. Bragg’s prosecutors have zeroed in on that hush money payment and the false records created by Mr. Trump’s company. A conviction is not a sure thing: An attempt to combine a charge relating to the false records with an election violation relating to the payment to Ms. Daniels would be based on a legal theory that has yet to be evaluated by judges, raising the possibility that a court could throw out or limit the charges.
♦ The vote to indict, the product of a nearly five-year investigation, kicks off a new and volatile phase in Mr. Trump’s post-presidential life as he makes a third run for the White House. And it could throw the race for the Republican nomination — which he leads in most polls — into uncharted territory.
♦ Mr. Bragg is the first prosecutor to lead an indictment of Mr. Trump. He is now likely to become a national figure enduring a harsh political spotlight. (LINK)

Well DUH. An indictment isn’t a conviction and I’m unclear if a conviction is enough to stop Trump… not that there could be.
Trump lawyers need to call federal prosecutors in to testify why they didn’t indict Trump when THEY were looking into all of this. Do that in front of a jury and see what happens.
That said, every jurist needs a full and complete background check including social media (using the way-back machine!!!!). There’s no reason to take this lightly.

The indictment is sealed. Next there will be a gag order on PDJT. So the prosecution can leak all day long to the NYT but the defense has to remain silent. This is a familiar pattern. Mueller and Durham both used it to silence anyone that could speak the truth.

And I believe there is one more ‘timing’ factor involved in this “leak” of PT’s indictment. Just another reason for the timing would be that this type of thing usually happens when Congress is not around to be questioned or give an opinion.
They headed out yesterday early afternoon and won’t be back in session for two weeks. So they have a two week window to stick their political finger in the air and see which way the political winds are blowing before taking a stance.
We must quickly get a US Supreme Court ruling on this matter, or in the future Presidents – our supreme Federal officer – will effectively be unable to rule, being hamstrung by the justified fear of nuisance state-level charges to be filed immediately after they leave office.

Given who we are talking about, this has grave nationwide implications. Did knowledge of the Manhattan shenanigans ever affect an executive decision in the past and thereby already(!) compromise the legal rights of every citizen in Amerikka? Trump could certainly assert in court that it did, and no one could deny it.
Rep. Jordan already correctly referred to this issue in committee, before this arrogant DA tried to give him the finger. (Dumb move, pal … very dumb.) There are also settled SCOTUS cases to refer to.
The President literally IS(!) “the Executive Branch,” and so his/her position is carefully shielded from outside influences and concerns … for the same reason that Members of Congress are specifically immune while speaking on their chamber’s floor. The justifiable fear that a political enemy could do what this rogue DA just did would entirely compromise and thus defeat this. Thus becoming a nationwide and Constitutional concern. Therefore directly a matter for the SCOTUS, perhaps with or without a lawsuit brought by “several states.”
We should also completely eliminate the Federal judicial district of “DC.” The districts of neighboring states can handle the workload. As we now see, the opportunity for politically motivated judicial abuse are far too great. The “J6ers” were accused (or, imprisoned without being accused), entirely in the DC circuit, and strictly as part of an obvious political vendetta. The judge and jury decisions coming out of that place are equally corrupt. Eliminate that District!
