Today the Florida Senate scheduled a change via committee vote of the “Resign to Run” law for next Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 2:00pm. The intent of the change is almost certainly to permit Governor Ron DeSantis to formally announce his 2024 candidacy without having to resign his job as governor.

FL already passed some drastic laws affecting every homeowner (flood insurance) and homeowners under an HOA (quadrupling monthly HOA fees).

FL insurers have forced thousands if not millions of residents to insure with Citizens . Citizens is forcing many residents to get flood insurance. It’s basically doubling their already astronomical rates. I consider myself fortunate because I’m not one of them. I have always carried flood because IMO it’s madness not to. Mine costs $750 per year. $11250 total From what I understand the people being forced to carry are paying in the thousands.
I tweeted today that my insurance three years ago was $4200 a year. It went to $6000 the next year and I was forced into Citizens. The next year it was $8500. This year $10500. Never filed a claim and am on the completely other side of the state that was hit last summer. Everyone is blaming roofers. I hear (from SD) Rhonda is going to fix this on his book tour. Bwahahaha

Sadly it’s almost impossible to buy a home in Florida that doesn’t have an HOA. The way to help change your HOA for the better is to join, run for a seat on the board or ARC. We used to have a strict HOA and it was awful, but enough of us got together and voted that board out and got new people in that changed the whole thing for the better. No fines, no BS and homeowners don’t have to worry about their HOA coming after them for every little thing. People actually keep their yards and homes nicer when they are not under the threat of the HOA all the time. Some HOA’s in Orlando are so outrageous, they fine people anywhere from $100.00 to $1000.00 for a brown spot in their yard or for stupid little things like that. I couldn’t live under that stress everyday. Homeowners can change their HOA’s for the better if they get involved, vote the evil people out and restructure.
I have some older single females in my family who chose to buy homes in gated communities in Arizona.
They did so because of the extra private security and the help given to them for their front yard landscaping needs.
But mostly for the extra security.
It is almost impossible to find a gated community without the HMO and as single women they felt better having the security.

The state of Florida has nothing to do with the increase in your HOA fees, your HOA Board is increasing your fees. Every homeowner should get an expense report showing where your HOA fees are being spent. Our HOA fees have stayed the same for over 10 years, we have not increased them and do everything we can not to increase them. I would ask your HOA for a breakdown of expenses and ask why your fees are increasing so much.
