If there is one additional person that I would be certain is under full spectrum surveillance, it’s dissident comrade Matt Taibbi. With the background of Twitter and the DHS national security interests still part of the social media construct, you can be sure all elements of the administrative state have a focus on his internal search requests.
One of the reasons why I give Matt Taibbi a lot of credit, is because I am well aware how the shadow dwellers, what DC would call ‘stakeholders’, are watching him; yet he persists on his reviews and investigations.
Secondly, given his general Michael Hastings aligned disposition, Taibbi would be the first person to dismiss his own risk status. Something akin to, ‘nah, they wouldn’t‘, but oh yes, they would.
On the day that Taibbi was giving testimony to the House committee reviewing the ‘Weaponization of Federal Government’, an IRS agent just happened to coincidentally visit his home. Committee Chairman Jim Jordan now wants to know if the two coincidences are connected.

They never show up. Always by written correspondence first. No personal visits, no calls. I would have taken the person’s picture and asked for personal and professional identification for verification as to their actual identity. This is harassment but probably not by the IRS.

Wrong, you’d receive a letter. Brother in-law just got a letter from the IRS of possible identity theft. No one went to see him in person. You can’t even get an agent on the phone to answer basic questions, no way are they sending 2 agents to residences.
Took me 3 hours on hold waiting for an agent to come on the line to let the IRS know that they had made a mistake in the letter they sent me. I finally got an agent; he agreed that it was a mistake; I insisted that he send me an official correction.
Took me 4 hrs on the phone (last November), after previously returning by mail additional copies of prior year tax return filed and accepted electronically last spring.
Lady I talked to was very nice, but she said she could not tell why no refund due me was ever issued or why I was asked for copies of info they already had.
Only that my tax file just said it was “under review”. She could not tell me why.
I told her I figured this first time ever having any issue with IRS was because it was the same year I made more donations to Republicans than all my other years combined. She laughed, but did not comment.
Still waiting now after 2nd letter with duplicate info returned to them, but not holding my breathe.

why should it matter even IF matt taibi or any other investigative journalist was paid by twitter or musk? is there a law that prohibits it? obviously there is no such law that makes it a violation of ANY TYPE to get paid for your investigative work…FROM ANYONE. If that was a crime, journalism would not exist..at all. It does require money to produce journalism…and lots of it depending on the time, resources, technology, logistics and the staff needs to investigate, verify and then publish. Like anything this requires money. Opposition research even is not against the law. At all. So I kind of took the direct approach…why WOULD the garcia want to make a deal out of matt getting paid or not.
in the pocast, matt made it clear that most of his investigative work is financed by “monetization”…that is he sells his work for a fee, or has advertisers pay him for his work so they can market. It’s a good model. It’s basically the same thing as the penny saver paper which is free to you and me, but the advertisers and classified sections pay the publisher. it’s not a novel or exotic model. Arguably, the most authentic and well read writer is the higher the demand for advertisers: more eyes…more sales..more ads. This can make an investigative journalist quite wealthy. I have no problem with this. But I was interested in knowing from matt directly why he felt garcia was going in this direction with the question.
it is to destroy credibility…to make the messenger and not the message the issue. It’s a old gimmick. But he did say that any time he takes on work, he avoids the perception of bias and conflict with his work..this gives a consistency and a difference between his work and that of others..who have no ethical issues getting paid to manufacture garbage and pervert a story..or to just ignore one and not print it.
