I missed this a few days ago; however, given the “official” narrative that East Palestine, Ohio, water and air are safe it seems rather contradictory for EPA Administrator Michael Regan to tell CNN’s Erica Hill two weeks later that things might not be safe for EPA officials.
I mean seriously, what the heck is the message here? And the state and federal officials wonder why the residents of the area would have concerns about being told everything is safe. In this soundbite (prompted to the question at 07:39) CNN’s Erica Hill speaks with EPA administrator Michael Regan and asks him if things are safe. I understand state-level primacy in a lot of these issues but in a proverbial ‘big one’ such as in Ohio, if the EPA isn’t showing courage and leadership and taking the bull by the horns, what good are they?
So when the going gets rough, the best the administrator can say is ‘the state is taking the lead we’ll help them out’?

I think the overall point that the government and administration are trying to whitewash this whole thing is 100% correct, but I think you’re reading a bit too much into what he’s saying in this clip. It’s hardly a “smoking gun”.
It is a crash site. It may be unsafe for myriads of reasons…residual fires and hotspots, unstable footing, potential falling debris or rubble, etc etc etc. That would be no different if the crashed railcars had contained no potentially toxic chemicals, so reading into his statement that the area is unsafe for the EPA workers because of the toxic chemicals is just that…reading into it.
EPA technicians are not first responders, it is perfectly reasonable for them to not be allowed onto the site until the physical dangers are mitigated as much as possible. That doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the chemical spill.

If you look at Amtracks routes, the only way to get to the other side of the Mississippi River is thru either Chicago or New Orleans. This is because all train routes used by Amtrack have better inspection and repairs. I may be time for cities to demand the railroads to better safety and maintenance or just pull an earthmover across the tracks. Over 1000 derailments a year is just too much.

I watched hides being pulled out along with contaminated soil, and on and on. I am now doing a major addition. The site was cleaned up…….but as we get into it…..who knows. All that said, burning off toxic gas in East Palestine makes no sense to me. Capture it, truck it out, what they did is primitive. The locals are paying the price, the “government” is a slug, and dopes like Biden and DeWine take a slide. I guess we’ll see.
