China is getting ready to take down an unidentified object spotted flying over waters near the port city of Qingdao, The Paper reported.
An employee at the marine development authority of Qingdao’s Jimo district said “relevant authorities” are preparing to bring down the object, the report said. The employee was not informed what the object was.
The person said fishermen in the area have been told to be careful about safety, the report added.

I see two possibilities here:
1) Before the neocons or any other band of warhawks instigate a war, they initiate a propaganda campaign to convince the public that the nation the warhawks want to attack poses a direct threat or is actually already attacking us. The threat outlined in the propaganda can be, and historically usually is, completely fictitious. In line with this tradition, these balloons could be, and maybe genuinely are, nothing more than weather balloons that drift across the planet in their many thousands every day.
2) If these are indeed Chinese balloons, their purpose might well be to send a message to the Neocons driving US foreign policy that they are capable of striking back at us if they want to. The reason the Chinese might want to send this message is because the US has been setting up military bases in an arc around China, running military drills right on China’s doorstep, and arming China’s neighbors with advanced military equipment. US officials have also been talking openly about how they foresee a war breaking out between the US and China in the near future. In addition, they’ve been accusing China of carrying out a genocide against the Chinese Uyghur population, which is the sort of demonizing accusation that propagandists like to level at a nation they want to justify waging war against. The Chinese are no doubt aware of this.
If the shoe were on the other foot and some nation were doing to us what we’re doing to the Chinese, I can easily imagine the US responding with a demonstration of our ability to hit back.
*By the way, little to no credible, independently verified evidence of this genocide has been produced to date. In fact, evidence produced to date strongly indicates the story is bunk.
