Apparently, the Chinese surveillance airship has been taken out of commission inside the 12-mile range of U.S. territorial waters on the South Carolina Atlantic coast.
Delivering remarks to the press pool, Joe Biden confirmed the Chinese dirigible was taken down. According to his statement, Biden ordered the airship to be shot down last Wednesday (lol sure), but the military advised him to wait until it crossed the U.S. and could be taken down over water.
Several U.S. jet fighters were seen circling the coastline, and the FAA had shut down the airspace above the Atlantic near Myrtle Beach prior to the operation to remove or destroy the surveillance airship.

No. You start by asking what intelligence a balloon at 60,000 feet can gather that a spy satellite in low earth orbit would miss. The only way to answer this question is to follow it and monitor its transmissions. It’s separating the wheat from the chaff in the data sets that is the real challenge.
Why can’t you do that in the first day over Alaska? Why does it take 7-8 days to figure it out? And then why shoot it down. Why not just force it down. put a few small holes in it until it can’t maintain altitude.

Whether it was actually gathering data or not doesn’t really matter because it achieved a much more important goal for China. First, it tells the Chinese how easy it is to pierce US airspace. Second, it tells the Chinese that the US will take days to take action.

Sadly I keep hearing about our military being the best in the world. I don’t think that’s very accurate anymore. We’re down an awful lot of equipment and to be the very best you have to have ammunition. That is running very low, unless the Ukraine will give some back. Now they’re asking for F-16’s! Did you ever see that movie about the guys who went into Afghanistan by horse ahead of our invasion? It did a great job portraying the coordination of ground based targeting agents and called in air attack.
This could be a dry run to see whether a full operational network with secure communications will work in a multiple direction attack (ground and air all at once).
I am not sure what the latest numbers are, but I think there are well over 200,000 Chinese nationals loyal to the CCP present in our country. That’s just students on visas. Who knows how many more with an open border?

Quick example: on J6, I helped out for a while assisting folks navigate the purchase of DC metro tickets, to get the huge crowd unfamiliar with the system through a potential bottleneck.
Two elderly Chinese ladies showed up around the same time and created confusion and delays at a couple of the ticket machines for at least 40 minutes. They lingered, feigning confusion and preventing people behind them in line from using a machine or two (basically taking 2 of 7 or so machines out of operation), while I worked around them speeding people up, so the delaying tactics failed and the lines moved. They eventually left.
Their actions were not random. They were assigned a mission, IMHO. Had I not been present, they would have had a good shot at delaying or preventing at least some people from getting to the rally.

I suspect the purpose of the balloon was to draw attention to to a PERCEIVED growing threat from China, in order to justify a hasty withdrawal from Ukraine (before they collapse) because we obviously must immediately divert all military assets to the south pacific. “Sorry Z, but we’ve got bigger fish to fry.
