You know things are squirrely when you find yourself listening to a rather unorthodox presentation of political events and agreeing with Russell Brand.

Matt Gaetz was on Timcast IRL tonight and it was an EXCELENT discussion. Among the things he said was that there are many things where he would be willing to work with the populists on the left to accomplish, such as getting rid of the Patriot Act.

That was the best unfiltered, no bull sh*t interview I’ve seen in my 71 years of following politics. Well maybe, 53 years. I first voted at 18. How did we allow our elected leaders morph into what we now have? He detailed how the game is played. Sundance has done the same. Gaetz was so cool! When he appears in 3 minute interviews, he comes off as smarmy. Spending a three hours talking about ideas is a great format. I gained a lot of respect getting to hear Gaetz respond in a friendly setting.
My thirty-something kids and their friends are regular watchers of Timcast, Joe Rogan, Dave Smith and Lex Friedman. There is definitely a spark of excitement thinking conservatism is now the counter culture.

Our two early thirty somethings and several of their friends are very Conservative. ( great fun too.)
Our two were instructed as teenagers not to ever have consumer debt. ( other than a residential mortgage)
They appear to have attracted friends with similar values.

Probably because we are on the coast of California, most of my kids friends are not conservative by upbringing but have become right of center. My son calls them Joe Rogan Republicans. These young adults work in Tech, music and film. The are just smart people who don’t like being treated like useful idiots.

I was also very favorably impressed with Sen. Matt Gaetz’s filing in for Steve Bannon’s War Room yesterday for the second hour. He seems to have really done his homework and is top of the issues. Bravo.
Me thinks someone is planning a run for Senator. Gaetz would be great in the upper House.
He should run for Florida governor when DeSantis leaves.

What does a left wing populist believe in? Could someone briefly describe that? I’ve heard Bernie described as a populist but I don’t see how socialism or communism benefits “the little guy” in the long run.
They believe in Universal Healthcare. I don’t. But if anyone wants to discuss political solutions I tend to engage anyone who is honest. If the only thing a left wing populist agrees with a conservative about is limited government and transparency, then I say welcome aboard. Reagan would never have been elected without a big tent.

My husband was awarded a nice SS monthly after becoming disabled in 2011.
His earned income went from $103,000 back then to now $32,773. His Medicare cost him $2,041 and mine cost that as well. So, we paid 4,082 for Medicare this past year. IT IS NOT FREE- NOT FOR US.
We are NOT on a Medicare advantage plan because we do not trust the government to be able pay for or provide good medical care just because Joe Namath and a host of other paid actors say so.
My former employer collects $4,000 per year for my husband and me to have supplemental Medicare coverage.
We pay dearly at the pharmacy for med!

Women would cross the border and have their babies at the hospital. In those days to get across all you had to do was show drivers license. Both ways. It’s all I had to do to walk across to Mexico. Now all anyone has to do is show a passport.

I started watching him by accident and curiosity and now I have the utmost respect and understanding of his accent, and of course his views.

If you look at most pundits and commenters on cable and MSM they are all like plastic puppets with a stick up their butt. Make up and hair perfect…very few facial expressions. (Probably the Botox) It’s really kind of macabre.
So I see Russell as a welcome change from the plastic puppets.
I love Neil Oliver because to me he fits in the category as teacher. He is also not a cookie cutter commenter.
Same with The New Atlas. Brian Berletic reminds me of a military teacher. Alexander Mercouris reminds me of a smart but absent minded professor. Alexander Christofou does his podcasts walking around different areas of Greece and gives updates on geopolitical events. Very informal. Sense of humor. Gonzalo Lira actually smokes cigarettes while having roundtable discussions on his podcasts. Colonel MacGregor and Scott Ritter tell us what is going on from their homes.
To sum it up…the mockingbird media are plastic puppets all saying what is approved…a staged production…..love Tucker Carlson but even he has to abide by the dictates of those he works for to a certain degree.

I’ve also considered him a nutter. But comedians are an odd lot, and a lot of them are really insightful. Probably why they are funny. I’ve seen some interviews with him that made me change my opinion, and I have seen a few of his videos. I think he has realized the Overton window has shifted so far he’s politically homeless. In a way, like Bill Maher.
I’d say most of us here at CTH find ourselves “politically homeless” if you get down to the nut meat of it.

I agree. I listen to him and he does seem to be genuinely red pilled on many issues. He influences younger people to think critically and wake them up and he does it with humour.
Russel Brand, like Jimmy Dore, are both socialists, but they value truth over ideology. They are like Christopher Hitchens; they will never share some of my political philosophy but we share core values like truth, fairness and personal freedom described in the Bill of Rights.
I love how Russel Brand has over 6 million subscribers and while many might be Baby Boomers, Brand is introducing critical thinking to millions of people who follow him because they are fans of his work, or maybe his personal recovery story helps them. It will be people like Brand who change the culture back to something I recognize.

Agree .. Russell Brand has very unique set of smarts combined with sharp intuitive discernment. I got that impression when he on an interview featuring Mika .. she sure was showing an aspect of herself not seen anywhere or since. She was off balance so to speak. Can’t remember the exact interview or date.

I saw this video but it came from someone who was analyzing rudeness and how to be a BOSS and put an end to such rudeness. They used Brand as an example of how he did not let these people successfully demean him nor his message. He was able to expose these media readers for what they are which is that they are not even good media readers.

She said “oh sorry ..” Really? Love when towards the end he talked about letting appearances, not facts get in the way of their reporting is done (she scowed) ‘the way you touch that bowl” whatever. Bingo – her upper body language I have not seen in any other apperances she has been in. The body language and expressions (Brand’s and Mika’s) are all keys – Brand being who he is; and Mika, though failing to assert control over the way the interchanges were going, Brand deftly got the focus (her need to have attention/control) on her and the fact Joe wasn’t there is another key. That’s the Mika, that Brand, by being himself rattled her off balance from the beginning. Jokes on her.

Some of us just took more convincing to get off the neo-con train because we were normies not paying attention. Mea culpa. Been a hell of a ride last 5-6 years.
I have looked down on the the Hippie movement most of my life. Hippies have always been the smelly, obnoxious weirdos of my parents’ generation interested in drugs, sex, and perpetual childhood.
Yet I have found myself increasingly thinking about their anti-war, anti-consumerism beliefs and realizing there is less distance between myself and the hippies now than there was just a decade ago. It feels strange to admit that, but it is true.
I’m a rock ribbed, life-long conservative but I’m frequently mistaken for an old hippie. Both conservatives and hippies are huge fans of freedom. The primary difference is that conservatives understand individual liberty cannot exist without personal responsibility. Hippies, generally speaking, seem pretty irresponsible.
Russel Brand is a hippie who needed to become responsible. His life depended on it. The only way to clean up your act is to take full responsibility for your behavior.

Brand is part of the chattering class that sometimes says things that draw oohs and aahs from the right side of the gallery. He’s basically Bill Maher or George Carlin in that regard. He is a windsock; the winds are shifting and so is his “commentary.”

Have watched several of Russels podcasts, he is ALWAYS a little “over the top”, a LITTLE crude, and generally “spot on” in his analyses, and no doubt his over the top style is what helped him develop a following, so don’t begrudge him that.
The more prominent voices, speaking TRUTH, the better.
The good news is, despite big spending on the military, the US cannot take on Russia or China head on. Our military is in dire straights and it has been getting that way over 50 years.
That means the US is severely restricted in war mongering across the globe. And that is a good thing.
If we build up the military too much world peace would be threatened.
Russell Brand is really hard for me to follow, but I agree with his assessment.
IMO, the conflict in Ukraine is potentially one of the most consequent events in the world today. It is exposing the world to the evil machinations behind western and US hegemony and the desperation to hold on to imperial world control with more and more money and weapons thrown at the conflict. It has the potential to split further the world economies as the economies of BRICS strengthen. It is exposing the inadequacies of NATO and US military power, the corruption and greed of our political class, our declining industrial capacity, and the conniving of our corporatist owners of government. It has the potential of replacing the petro-dollar which could prove to be catastrophic due to our enormous debt and fiat money. (If the western governments do confiscate Russian assets, they will not only break international law, but emphasize further to the global south and Asia that they cannot put financial trust in western banks or governments.)
Not only is this conflict an existential fight for Russia, but it has become an existential fight for the west.
I almost hope for the economic collapse of the United States as it is right now because it is the only way I can see that will bring about reform of the lust for power and profit that are the reigning goals of our political elites, the multinational corporations and banks, and unelected administration.
Poking the Bear with the possibility of nukes is definitely an existential issue, for all of humanity.
And we can all thank God that The Bear typically exhibits a calm and measured response to such insane provocations from the West and its proxies.
I think that the Deep State is beholden to Ukraine because it has been the piggy bank for the American political class (through their kids who sit on boards of companies like Burisma doing nothing of real value for exhorbitant pay).
Further, they may hold evidence of diabolical wrong-doing that they can hold over these people.
It is not just the US that Ukraine is holding hostage.
Almost the entire West is funding and supplying Ukraine.
And those countries who are not joining in the madness are being bullied and pressured.

His 2nd quarter grades will buy him another tranche. We are pleased Vanguard no longer does the stupid ESG crap. Couple more years the UGTM goes to him and he will have a down payment on a house or whatever. I tell the rascal go where the money goes. follow it and don’t be a social justice warbutt.
I read something interesting today, an analysis of why Russia’s military budget is low in comparison to the US defense budget.
Russia’s defense industries are publicly owned. So, they get resources and energy at cost and they aren’t making weapons and military equipment for profit from the Russian tax payers. (They can and do sell to other countries for a profit.) It streamlines their defense budgets because the government is only paying for the actual cost to produce weapons and materiel.
US defense industries are entirely private and have no reason to keep costs low or production timely because they will be paid whatever it takes from your tax dollars. The bigger the price tag, the more they can siphon off in profit or hand out to political candidates, lobbyists, and shareholders. They pay full price for resources and energy so other companies also make profits, eventually paid with your tax dollars. So US weapons are very expensive and our defense budget bloated.
The fastest way to reduce our defense spending (half of all money spent by government) and to end “forever wars” is for government to take over the defense industries to become a function of the government…….LOL! The entire political class and all the defense industries would scream!
I remember one of the platform promises of President Trump in 2016 was to bring our military up to par.
Our Air Force was having to go to boneyards to find parts to fix planes.
It has only been 6 years since then…….
Only 250 Patriot missiles are produced every year.
The last couple of years a facility which will be completed in 2024 will increase the production to 500 missiles…per year.
We also supply the missiles to other countries.
We do not have the production/manufacturing capacity to produce more. It usually takes years to build and equip a facility.
Patriot system is over rated and over priced. Sending one or two to Ukraine is an exercise in futility.

The amusing thing is that despite the huge military budget in the US, the US military has nowhere near the capacity of weapons, ammo, men, etc., that Russia has. This, of course, is probably due to the fact that the US uses private contractors for its military equpment. For example, a submarine built in Russia will cost X, while a submarine built in the US will cost 10X. The war in Ukraine is showing the disparity between the US and Russian military (insofar as arms are concerned).

Example-if Russia and China spend the same amount of money to build 3 tanks for the amount we spend to build 1 –the GDP comparison is totally irrelevant.

Russell Brand starts out always steering the boat towards “democracy”, then at the end steers it head on into socialism. Why does he do that? He gets the concept of conservatism, he realizes that is has been coopted by globalists and corruption, and, yet, he steers it right back around to that which is evil. I’ve listened to numerous of his videos, and think, “Oh, he’s gotten it now,” and he always goes back to his roots of “Oh, you Americans have so much more than others; you need to share your wealth with others.” He will always be a socialist. Just my two cents, since you asked.
Russell Brand is outstanding. His video Thursday, It’s starting, is very good too. One thing to note is that Brand’s videos are fast moving and I would think, require a bit of intellect to be able to keep up with him. I’m in my 70s and can stay with him, but I wonder about the younger generations.
