In a series of tweets today, Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie provides an excellent example of why and how government always grows.
The Overton Window is basically a catchphrase to explain a narrow spectrum of acceptable government policies at any given moment. As the nation evolves the window of what would be considered currently “acceptable’ moves. In the example of the government continue to grow, the Overton Window constantly shifts toward leftist totalitarian objectives, bigger government.
The movement happens slowly – over time – but is never reversed. Regardless of who controls power, the big government Overton Window always goes one way, one nudge at a time in one direction, toward bigger government. People often ask, why does this continue to happen even after Republicans are elected? Today, Thomas Massie accidentally gives us a perfect example of how and why.
When Democrats are in power, they do everything to maximize their power and minimize the influence of their Republican opposition. However, when Republicans are in power, they do everything to minimize their power and maximize the power of their Democrat opposition, now in the minority. Democrats in control, they maximize the Overton Window shift. When Republicans are in power, they do nothing to pull it back – they actually do everything possible to maintain the shift. LOOK:
Saul Alinsky wrote the rulebook for radical leftists saying, “force the opposition to play by their own rules.” A seemingly abhorrent concept when the powered wig crowd of honorable constitutional republicans take control.
Sitting atop the high horse Massie explains how it is a matter of principle that Republicans should not use power.
We are in an abusive relationship with government.
Representatives like Thomas Massie likely have the best intention in mind, but the result is a constant loss of freedom in one direction.
The constitution was written as a document to be affirmed, executed and defended by honorable people. The progressive movement uses the morality within the affirmation as a weapon.
In a similar way a kidnapper tells one of two victims, they will harm the other if they try to flee, radical leftists slowly kill us by manipulating our love of country and constitution.
We should no longer accept the baseline premise; instead, we should change the dynamic by killing the kidnapper.
Get off the high horse and fight Mr Massie.

Most don’t read the bills anyway, or they don’t understand what they are reading. It is comforting to know we have such brilliance in congress…..lol
Nobody who is an ambitious and intelligent idea person goes into politics or, for that matter, joins the government bureaucracy to make a living. There are always exceptions we are told, but after decades of observing this scene so to speak, I no longer believe it. A friend was fond of saying that “the only way to look at a politician is down” and another is “never fall in love with a politician because he’ll let you down every time”.
That is a very good observation. Why a republic like ours falls. Not it’s inefficient construct the sheer lack of desire from the citizens to preserve it. There is no duty for government.
Remember when it was “duty” to join military or in some way tithe your time towards a better country? Everyone worked in some form for our community when I was growing up, welcome wagon, election workers, school, church. Now, nope.
President was the highest honor, next to astronaut, both were servant positions. The pay was incidental it was the prestige and honor attached.
Damn, you see how gutted the heart and character of this nation is when you look at it that way.
I remember when it was normal not to send pics of young ladies’ rears in a political blog, when it was not normal to accuse a politician of “s—-” someone’s “d—” (profanity) in order to say he was controlled by him, and when female politicians were not called “c—-s” in political blogs.
What used to be considered indecent is now routinely seen in blogs like Breitbart. Thankfully, CTH has higher standards.
I remember when complaining about it– pointing it out — was not met with cries of “you’re a prude,” but it often is today….
The corporations that own them write the bills, so they don’t want or need to read them.
Major reform is needed for sure in developing, considering, passing and implementing bills/laws.

The only way to ensure government institutions do not capture those responsible for the operation of the institution is to establish term limits.
Over time there is not a single institution that does not turn the attention of its members into preserving and supporting the institution while those who should be served by the institution become extraneous baggage.
As long as we remain under the New Deal constitution with its rampant opportunities for rent-extraction and rent-seeking, term-limits won’t accomplish anything. Markets always clear.
A better solution might be TIME limits for elected office, as in cutting in half each of the current federal elected offices.
1,3,2 instead of 2,6,4 – the longer they are secure in office, the more damage that is done.
Another is adding more members to the House of Reps. to dilute their positions and require lobbyists to bribe more. Citizen access will be expanded. In time, regional congresses will make sense if Citizen control of the federal government is the goal. However, no system yet devised is or will ever be perfect, thus We Fight or we die.
I have often contemplated term limits as some kind of remedy to mitigate the kinds of fraud and abuse of power in congress.

term limits are useful to prevent legacy problems in congress. I do believe the members in congress should not be allowed to make politics in DC a professional life long career. Nor do I believe congress members should be allowed to work in the private sector or receive ANY PAC money.
Term limits is but one type of remedy is my point. There are literally dozens of other “legalized” schemes that are in place that attract the worst kinds of people to represent US.
Imagine for example, if the LAW stated the following:

Thomas Massie is one of Trucker Carlson’s most beloved and admired Reps. After every interview he pumps him up as an exceptionally rare and wise statesman and so on.
But Mattie’s proposal seems idiotic given the composition of the Democrat party and all the harm their voting power has and still is inflicting on the USA. Appeasing a merciless and dangerous opponent that has propelled your nation into a serious and potentially irreversible decline seems insane or at least deluded.
I believed Tucker and thought Rep Massie would be one of the GOP Reps that would concentrate his efforts on what is best for the nation and his voters and not the merciless and dangerous opposition that has little or no respect for the law or the people that actually keep America going.

the daylight secret in DC is called the federal “thrift savings” program. I has never lost any money and over the course of 40 plus years has beaten every single index by a significant margin. Your argument is good but completely beside the point. A bill cannot be read in a month much less 3 days because of the way a bill is assembled and passed. A bill consists of amendments of a word to a comma to a phrase to a paragraph in an existing bill. Put together thousands of amendments into a bill and you end up spending a lifetime trying to go back and forth between all the bills and changes to make sense of what is proposed. And then what? The passed bill goes to an administrative group that takes all the amendments and turns them into law. AND THEY INTERPRET THE INTENT OF CONGRESS AS THEY SEE FIT. And the beauty is that the Constitution, the bloody shirt you wave, gives explicit power to Congress to make their own rules. So it is all constitutional!!!
Yes, the Constitution is a set up. All the “checks and balances” belong to government, and they will work all together when someone threatens their private club, as the entire ruling (I won’t say “government”, because no one elected them, and they are a mafia) gang, all “branches”, mobilized to oust Trump.

By the US Constitution the Federal gov is ONLY supposed to build a military, build ambassadors so we don’t always need the military, ensure free trade amongst states, and handle international issues. Like US military Federal gov is supposed be outwardly facing ONLY. Domestic issues should not be on the table at all at the federal level.
States are supposed to handle Domestic issues were local, regional customs norms can be decided by the people in such areas. It also ensures that if one state makes failed policies well they suffer lose population and their failure will avoid expansion, but not drag down the whole and vis versa were states make good policy their gaining power will encourage duplication. This allows experimentation without risking the whole and like free Capitalisms the successful experimentation will spread while failure is limited.
Will State taxes be higher of course but in same Fed gov spends roughly 20% budget on mil so lest say fed taxes 30% of current.

Rules change based on which wing or the uniparty is in power. A law needs to be passed that requires one month once bill is finalized for the public to be able to read before vote. Get ahold of enough legislatures, and you can enact an Amendment that renders null and void any act of Congress longer than five hundred (500) words. Not pages … WORDS. Include with that amendment a subsection that immediately removes from office any person found to have voted for any legislation of any length that he did not read.

I’m always skeptical of simple majority votes on anything. One to suspend agreed to rules such as this to ignore the read time is nonsense but it again makes since to those insisting we live in a Democracy. I believe Mr. Franklin thought it was a “Republic if you can keep it!” Republics detest 50% +1 votes but they did agree to allow both branches of the Legislature to establish their own operating procedures. The 2/3’s threshold seems minimal to me. Maybe 75% would be better.

Another way is to have a clean bill with amendments only for the core of the bill and not add-ons. Most of the bad outcomes are from the many amendments to a bill that had nothing to do with the subject.
Don’t expect the GOP to save the USA. Outside of a handful of patriots in the House (who are looked down upon by the leadership) it’s a fake opposition party. When the Democrats hold majorities they get everything they want and the government gets bigger and freedom is lost. I think it is so the bill can be read by the people before it is passed and the possibility remains that some opposition can be mustered to stop it. With respect to Mr Massie, his idea may be useful, but it is only a speed bump when it comes to slowing down the growth government. Most of our laws are written by lobbyists. They never write laws that do anything but add to their own power in some way, and they pay for the privilege. Neither the lobbyists nor the congressional staff write laws that repeal anything, but they do occasionally amend something. Regardless, when a bill is passed, someone in the bureaucracy has to monitor it and report to Congress on it’s effectiveness. More bills means a larger bureaucracy. It’s that simple. I realize that this topic could go on forever, but, parties aside, the size of government will grow as long as bills are being passed.
Nobody we have voted in has written a bill in 30 years, all written by outside people with the very rare exception. Very rare.
We do not have a functional government at all. I was told by people here that indictments were obvious after the 2020 election. I said no, indictments were not ever going to happen and the possibility Trump loses was pretty good. Thank his Covid Emergency Declaration.

It’s the people’s fault. 1910 was the last time the GOP had a supermajority in the Senate. Govt spending was < 10% of National Income in 1910. In 2021 Govt spending (including The Federal Reserve) was > 150% of National Income (hence inflation!). It’s been a steady rise since 1910 w/ recent spikes. Govt is now so big it self perpetuates. The American people allowed this to happen on their watch. It’s on them. We are essentially a one party country, and it ain’t conservative!
