Perhaps a little focus on the foundation of the issue is in order.
Ever since the professional Republican apparatus decided to target, eliminate and destroy the grassroots movement known as the Tea Party, there was always going to come a time when the battle for the heart and soul of the GOP Club would take place.
CTH has been calling this battle ‘The Big Ugly‘ for around a decade.
The Big Ugly battle is essentially the fight between the grassroots working class base of MAGA voters and the professional political snobs in control of the Republican Club boardroom.
Some call it the ‘base’ -vs- the ‘establishment’. There are other names and catchphrases, but the essence of the dynamic is the same. A scruffy voting base, who, prior to Donald Trump, had no visible leader to represent their internal interests around the mahogany table.
Ordinary voters were in an abusive relationship with the people around the GOP boardroom. The Club needed our votes, and our money (less so after the Citizens United decision) but had no intention of ever actually delivering on the priorities of the voters. The Republican political establishment played Lucy with the football for years, and We The People always ended up flat on our backs, continually frustrated and feeling used.
In the same year the Tea Party rose up, the Supreme Court gave the GOP Club legal access to unlimited corporate money with the 2010 Citizens United decision. Mitch McConnell used the newly unrestrained campaign finance mechanism to further diminish the influence of the unwashed masses and eliminate the movement; it’s all well documented.
For the next several years we watched and participated in a political pantomime with highlights to include the 2012 installation of Club member Mitt Romney to represent our interests. Yeah, whatever…. It was a hot mess. Bumper Sticker:
The base voters watched the GOP Corporate Club do nothing to block Obamacare, even after we gave them the House in 2010 midterms. Obamacare was another Lucy and the football scenario, while the Senate wing of the Corporate Club created “comprehensive immigration reform,” including amnesty with Marco Rubio. Eventually, the bloom wore off the ruse, and we dispatched Virginia Club official Eric Cantor as a message to the Corporate Club to knock it off.
The Corporate Club didn’t and doesn’t care. Instead, while they sold out the working-class to the multinationals (TPA, TPP, Paris Climate, etc) they fought harder, gaslight more, and made even more promises they never intended to keep. Lucy had an unending supply of footballs.
Then in 2015 things changed. The voting base found a weapon for use against the Republican Club, the weapon’s name was Donald Trump. From the very first poll conducted after his 2015 announcement Trump was leading the charge, and that lead steamrolled 16 other Club approved candidates. The Club remained furious and vowed to remove the disrupter we sent into the boardroom.
Candidate Trump and President Donald Trump tried to deal with them fair and square on our behalf, but they rebuked him and us.
The Club schemed against him, connived in their little corporate groups to get rid of him, joined with the communists in common cause to cleanse the Club boardroom of the smell from oil, tar and fuel oil, and wanted that vulgarian representative of the dirty fingernail working class eliminated. They want only the “approved Republican” presence.
So, it was always going to get ugly.
It was always going to get Big Ugly.
The Club’s enlistment of former TPP approving congressman Ron DeSantis as a foil against the MAGA leader is transparent. DeSantis, funded by massive contributions from the Wall Street approval committee, replaces the prior approved candidate, Jeb. This Big Ugly battle was always going to end up with vulgarian Trump -vs- the next Jeb. The Club has selected DeSantis as Jeb.
Now, let’s be clear. The Republican political establishment, which includes the entirety of the multinationals in/around it, hereafter just called ‘The Club’, doesn’t give a damn about actually winning the 2024 presidential race. The Club didn’t give a damn when Romney was used either.
What the Club wants is full control of the Club agenda, that’s where the money is. The color of the flag atop the Capitol Hill dome is irrelevant to the activity that takes place beneath it. To understand, remind yourself of: The 2017 Obamacare repeal vote, 2015 TPA and fast track approval, 2015 Corker-Cardin amendment for Obama’s Iran Deal, 2014 Gang-of-Eight amnesty bill, or more recently the 2022 unlimited Ukraine funding.
Under the Capitol Hill dome both Club wings of the UniParty apparatus feed the multinational corporate vulture, regardless of the color of the flag atop the spire.
The Republican Club has no interest in Ron DeSantis becoming President of the United States. The Republican Club has interest in Donald Trump NOT becoming President of the United States. Ron DeSantis is the foil, nothing more. It’s not about Ron DeSantis, it’s about the Club, the mechanism behind Ron DeSantis – the same mechanism that put $200 million into his campaign as enticement for his usefulness.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis -vs- California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2024 is simply two clubs playing the illusion of choice game.
Ultimately, using history and modern politics as the perspective, if you really boil down the political sauce to its reduced state, what you find is… With DeSantis the DNC Club needs less ballot collection to defeat him. However, that’s irrelevant to the intent of his usefulness for the GOP club.
For the professional GOP Club, as openly expressed by the establishment politicians within it, the donors behind it and the media who promote it, the goal is to remove the populism within the club and bring back the multinational Club alignment with the corporations. That alignment was severely damaged by President Trump and the America First economic agenda.
The core of the Big Ugly battle is a Club motive based on money, power and boardroom affluence, in essence, GREED.
For ten plus years on these pages, I have written extensively about how there was always, always, going to be a point where the Big Ugly battle was going to have to be waged. We have waited and waited, looking at each moment, each conflict, each disparagement, each slight and snub, in hope the spark would ignite.
If the Big Ugly arrives in a contest between President Trump and Governor DeSantis, well, great; it needs to happen.
The bottom line is we need this Big Ugly fight. Not only does the future of the GOP reside in the outcome, the future of a constitutional republic free from corporatism is contingent upon it.
Yes, this fight is going to be big, and it’s going to be ugly… and in the aftermath, hopefully lots of free footballs.

This is a bit of a surprise but it warms my heart. The House GOP Conference Chair, Elise Stefanik (R-NY), has come out publicly endorsing President Trump for the presidential run in 2024.
She will take a lot of heat for that, but I am pretty sure she was aware of it before she made her statements.

Well, consider how many voted for Trump versus all 15 of the other GOPe candidates in the 2016 primaries.
Next consider that most MAGA supporters know full well that President Trump won by large margins in 2020 while the massive fraud machine was supported by Pence and the RINOs on January 6 by certifying fraudulent vote totals from several states.

I’ m glad to read this post. When Trump ran the first time I was turned off by the way he treated the other candidates in the primaries. I was late to the Trump train, but got on board, voted for him twice, and liked many things he did as President. He needs to focus on reminding Americans of his policies that helped our country. However, I believe he will be blamed for the vaccines that have killed thousands of people and injured many more due to operation Warp Speed and his reliance on Fauci and Birx. He also closed down our country which killed small businesses and our children have been severely harmed by the closing of schools. There are millions of Americans searching for a leader to guide us out of this mess. I hope Trump will wise up, discuss why he made the decisions that he made, and give us all a reason to believe in him once again. Calling people names will only sour people on him. Like his “mean tweets” cost him a lot of votes. People need a reason to believe.
Picture yourself in the same circumstances as Trump was, with Fauci spouting, “Follow the Science. I am the science.” Do you know someone who would have done differently from Trump, given the unique circumstances at the time? And the way he treated the other candidates in the primaries was what got him elected, or weren’t you paying attention at the time? We have our Leader! You need to go find yours.
Here is my standard retort to the argument of “science” mandating anything:
Those who support liberty infringing mask and vaccine mandates claim that the mandates are scientifically required, but our rights are inalienable and cannot be infringed upon based on someone’s interpretation of the science.
The argument that mask and vaccine mandates violate personal liberty is a more compelling argument against them than their scientific merit.
Arguing against mask and vaccine mandates on the basis of scientific merit assumes that someone’s interpretation of the “science” could be used as a legitimate excuse to issue a liberty infringing mandate while nothing could be further from the truth.
As British Rabbi Jonathan Sacks said:
“Science will explain how but not why. It talks about what is, not what ought to be. Science is descriptive, not prescriptive; it can tell us about causes but it cannot tell us about purposes. Indeed, science disavows purposes.”
In other words, science only tells us what is. It doesn’t tell us what policies to implement. Mask, vaccine, and other mandates are the result of political science, not actual science.
You and I were also in that mess, and I was never fooled by either of those Bureaucrats. But Trump got played by them because he is basically a germaphobe. Trump knew it by the time he supposedly tested positive, so I think he did learn the hard way that Democrat Governors and the 4th Branch were already looking for the opening when he shut down the Country for their plandemic.
Your lack of discernment doesn’t mean others suffer the same. What I saw in the primaries was a man that was authentic not manufactured like the politicians. But the clearer sign of character was when he stood backstage at that debate with Ben Carson instead of walking past him like the politicians.
What you saw in Trump was what he wanted you to see in him. No politician will ever try to run with his/her real personality. Just like no Facebook page will ever reveal anyone’s real personality. This is an axiom for anyone who gets a chance to project any personality the want you to see. Bank on that.
Trump was an excellent President but, like all of us, he has obvious contradictions in his real personality. Trump won his election for precisely that reason. He projected a personality that was electable because he said a lot of things most of us wanted to hear. That is how all politicians do it. He was no different in that respect, say I. When I voted for him in 2016, it was because I knew Hillary was a sorry human being. When I voted for him in 2020, I knew he was flawed, but I also knew he had been an excellent President and I could put up with his schoolyard politics as long as he is our President.
When 2024 comes and if he is our candidate, I will probably vote for him again. But I have to admit that, after what I have seen from McConnell, Pelosi, Biden, and the like, I am wary of the advancing age of President Trump. I hope there will be an even better choice by then, but I have leaned not to expect much from the phony political crowd.

Trump has bigger plans than I have, so I expect he is trying to get ahead of a challenge from DeSantis. So far, DeSantis is only contemplating a run, but I bet that Trump will not be able to co-opt him by making fun of his name in the public square. That worked on the Repug field last time, but none of them had the track record and personality DeSantis has built. I’d almost agree with you if your name wasn’t new and you didn’t appear to be promoting DeSantis (GOPe pick) who promoted the jab, did nothing about employer mandates, and says he as a healthy 40 year old took the clot shot.
I am not sure he sold anybody out or even intended to. But I know he got conned by the pandemic planners. He knows he got played, and I think “operation warp speed” was the only hope he had to save the economy from a total collapse. I also think he could have done a lot better just to come clean and admit he made a mistake. It couldn’t have hurt him at that point. I still believe he was a great President but he did not have the political savvy to survive the politics around the trillions of dollars that he was authorized to spend. Question: even if AZ returns to Red (hopefully) which simply amounts to cleaning up elections, would Trump (or any other Republican for that matter) have enough electoral college votes to win the election in 2024??? I mean, PA is out. MI is out. WI might be out given Evers was reelected and the GOP came just short of a veto-proof supermajority (making it harder to clean up elections). GA might be out if we see a repeat of 2020. (e.g., I hear NeverTrumpers now arguing that if DeSantis ran, Kemp-run Georgia would play nice and not screw him like they would Trump).

Pro-Trump Brandon Williams actually gave a victory speech several days ago but his opponent will not concede until the remaining absentee votes are counted. The dem would needs 7o% of the remaining votes to overturn William’s lead which even the lefty local news admits is not at all likely.
Just heard that a number of rental trucks just dropped off around 100,000 ballots at the Maracopa counting office in AZ. Percent of votes counted went from 85% to 78%. Since she supports Trump what are the chances AZ or DC GOP leaders are going to do anything about it?
Whoever has been reporting that 85% is wrong. The 78% figure is right and has only been going up a percent each day. Those could be some of the early voting ballots dropped off in the precincts on election day. If those are mailed in ballots just showing up now, the Republican lawyers should be all over it. I doubt that is the case. Cheating to that extent will be easily proven. I don’t think anyone is that stupid to put themselves in such legal jeopardy.

There is no purpose in making those juvenile nicknames and statements and I’m not going to look away from it any more. He is turning off voters by using that kind of language and it does nothing to help convey his otherwise-legitimate messages. It simply gives voters a reason to not want him around any more, including people on our side, and it gives the media something superficial to latch on to so they can avoid discussing the actual content of his messages.
Trump owes Youngkin nothing. He avoided Trump like the plague during his election. Trump is laying down his markers now to the GOPe and any of their potential candidates for 2024. You don’t win by playing defense. You play offense and if it gets too hot for some, they should get out of the kitchen.
It’s not about Trump vs. Youngkin. It’s not about me. It’s about the need for him to attract voters, not turn them off. And it’s about the need to not give the media material to discredit him.
